How will you configure your iPhone X?

You’re forgetting the iOS 11 feature that allows you to transfer to a new phone, which isn’t a restore of a backup.

Unless Apple comes out with 11.1 before Friday, I will have to install the beta profile on my X, and restore from backup. My 7+ recently came into some damage and the last backup that was done was on an 11.1 beta -_- Oh well.

huh? when u set up as new pictures don’t return

Yes they do if you use iCloud photos. As soon as you login to iCloud they are restored.

It is just like a mac. When you set up a new Mac and sign into iCloud all of your iCloud services are restored: calendars, mail, photos, contacts, etc.

You can set up as new and be comfortable knowing your photos and iCloud info will restore if you use iCloud services. That’s a major reason why it’s so good. That is also the reason a new iPad can be set up as new and all of your info transfers.

iPads as new since I can just put the data back on and it removes the cruft.

iPhones I usually do clean installs and I did so on my iPhone 8, but I think that’s the last time. There are so many hooks in the iphone like Health data and Watch settings that I get tired of losing.

Not sure yet.

Leaning towards setting phone as new. I need to get icloud so I can move pics over easily.

I like setting up new as well. I don’t mind dropping my health data. Ive got all my photos from all my devices on my MBP, so I’ll airdrop the ones I want from there. Gives me a chance to review them.

I think that 11.1 will be released very soon. The last update was very small. Otherwise I’ll do the same as you.

Here's to hoping. I don't really wanna put the beta profile on a new product. I usually am more apt to do it when I know I only have a few more months until I get a new phone and the newest iteration of iOS beta gets released after WWDC. Battery life is always killer (and not in a good way) on those betas.

Can I vote for what I did with my 8+?

I always restore from iTunes. Have done so from 3Gs to 5s to 6 to 8+.

The idea that you will accumulate bad or junk files that will hamper the performance of your phone is absolutely a myth! All you will get is a new phone setup exactly like your previous phone, with all the apps, settings, layout, and content just how you like them, without having to do it all from scratch.

I wonder if 11.1 is required for the X. If that's the case, I'll update my 7 Plus to the 11.1 release and then use a backup to restore the X from iTunes. We'll know in a few days.

I've always restored from backup, because I want to keep my texts, and that's the only way I know how to do it. So is there a way to do a fresh install but restore my messages? And if not, can restoring from a backup make your phone slower? It's something I've heard in past discussions on this subject, but don't know if there's any truth to it, or if it's just an old wives' tale.

Not until Apple flips the switch on iMessage on iCloud. If i'm not mistaken, this was debuted at WWDC, however not implemented in 11.0. Quite possibly coming in 11.1?

I always set a new iPhone up as new. Start fresh, only download apps that you need. iCloud for the majority anyhow.

11.1 will be out this week. It has to be. They aren’t going to give you a phone with beta software.

They could also release it with 11.0 - I guess we will find out. My hope is 11.1. That would be ideal.
