How will you configure your iPhone X?

I just keep shaking my head at people who go the route of a fresh install to avoid “bugs” or “corrupted data.” So ridiculous. Just install from a backup folks. This isn’t complicated.
Uhm no. It's no secret that sometimes battery drainage issues can be resolved with a fresh install.
Saw it a lot of times during the past years.

I always set a new iPhone up as new. Start fresh, only download apps that you need. iCloud for the majority anyhow.

11.1 will be out this week. It has to be. They aren’t going to give you a phone with beta software.

Or you could just start deleting apps from your phone now that you never use and still have all your settings and app layout restored

Old corrupt files could drain the battery

Not in my experience. When I can’t load an iCloud backup, it is because it’s corrupt and so I’m forced to start the phone as new. Same for the clients I’ve helped, setting up their iPhones. It doesn’t happen often, but every now and then I’ll get one that can’t restore from backup when they’re transferring from one iPhone to another.

Notes will also get synced via iCloud, IF you have enabled it.
Just enable EVERYTHING within the iCloud settings, and you are good to go. :)
thanks i only thought contacts where the only thing that sync

I like to get the full experiance when it comes to something new and fresh, so set up as new iPhone it is. Over the year that I keep my phone, clutter stars to build up so I take this as an opportunity to start fresh. Either ways, nothing in my cloud will be affected as photos and music will come back once I log in.

I always use a iTunes backup and never had a issue. I have text message conversations that I have saved and custom ringtones that don’t back up with iCloud.

Also I would not want to add every single contact manually starting fresh.

...if a particular app is creating a problem. If you are not experiencing battery issues on your current phone, this excuse is without merit.

I always restore from iCloud backup. The only time there's a hiccup is if the backup version is older or newer than the iOS version on the phone. If it's older, I update my old iPhone to the newer iOS and back it up before restoring to the new phone. If it's newer, which has happened, I take it to the Apple Store and they can restore it. I've only ever had to do that once since iCloud was launched, and it was because I had to exchange out a phone due to a battery problem.

Nah I went through all the betas of iOS 11. Time to clear that all out. Might be a myth but I just prefer to set up as new. I kinda enjoy it anyway.

For all of you starting as a new phone, isn't it tedious to download all your apps from scratch? What about the data associated with those?

I'm intrigued too since I've had WiFi issues with my last few iPhone that have been restored from older backups (Phone becomes unresponsive when connecting or disconnecting from WiFi while using the device)!
But I also have apps that I'm desperate to keep exactly as they are now (i.e iMessage, WhatsApp, and other apps with media content inside them).

How would I go about setting up an iPhone from scratch yet be able to pick apps that I want fully restored individually?

You can’t. Restore from a backup. The idea that it would have any impact at all on the WiFi performance of the new device is nonsense and laughable.

My iPhone 6 Plus with so many applications it starting to slow down the overall performance, however I’m thinking to setup as new iPhone X with very minimum application that is designed for X only.

I need to remove all previous iCloud backup data and move to external multiple hard-drives.

Start fresh with new phone I guess.

Nope. I download the apps I use all the time - most of those backup to Dropbox so they’ll sync back up just like my iCloud information. I’ll lose my health data but I don’t really use that info. Most of my apps I don’t actually use so those will drop by the wayside.

It’s what I’ll do on Saturday with a cup of hot chocolate (it’s supposed to be raining). I’ll airdrop the photos I want on the new phone, all the rest are already on my Mac. It’s eaither that or vacuum the house and dust, I vote for updating my phone!

So what exactly is not link to iCloud? I’d rather set up as new but would like to keep everything I have. Minus the health info.

I am setting up from scratch, always do...I have my layout and password, on a word document and I can usually set the thing up in 60 minutes. I have a it down to a science. But I have questions...

1) I use iCloud the back my photos. I just went into storage on my 7 and it says 44gb. Id love tube able to use iCloud just to backup my photos.I'd like to avoid the 44gb of old photos being downloaded to my new phone. Any way to do that?
2) Assuming the answer is no, I hate having to stay in the hour for HOURS while 44gb of photos and videos restore. What happens if I leave wifi and return and in the middle of everything being downloaded the phone?

I've always restored from backup, because I want to keep my texts, and that's the only way I know how to do it. So is there a way to do a fresh install but restore my messages? And if not, can restoring from a backup make your phone slower? It's something I've heard in past discussions on this subject, but don't know if there's any truth to it, or if it's just an old wives' tale.

Sorry if someone in earlier pages of this post said this already, but I believe 9to5 Mac just did a tutorial on how to transfer old texts to a new iPhone without using a backup. It requires 3rd party software though. Sorry no link but I'm sure it would be easy to find on their site.

Apologies if this was already discussed but those that restore from iCloud backup - doesn't iCloud only has 5gb? How are you able to back the phone and restore? Do you have the additional iCloud storage you pay for?
