You do realize these numbers are not "sales" right? They are sales share and are estimates at best. These numbers are not from Apple and never tie to reality.

Plus, the pie has gotten bigger so the 298 could actually be more phones than a 312 in aggregate.

Care to bet on if Apple sold more phones in Q417 than Q416? The Q416 number was 78M. We'll find out February 1. Every analyst following the company expects Apple to sell more than 80M iPhones.

Apples Q4 ended 9-30-17. The next conference call is for Q1 2018. :apple:

So when in 8 out of 10 countries your sales drop is stellar?

Twist words to conform to your own beliefs much?

First sentence -- First sentence! -- of the article clearly says (bold added for emphasis):

"Kantar Worldpanel's newest smartphone OS data details the "stellar" performance of the iPhone X in multiple markets around the world during November, amid an overall "mixed performance" for iOS devices from September to November 2017."

The analyst said iPhone X sales are stellar, not iPhone period sales. In fact he does say overall iPhone sales were "mixed..."

Also, since the iPhone X is a brand new model it's sales cannot neither drop nor grow. They are the first-ever data point for the model. Again, the analyst said iPhone sales overall were "mixed," not "stellar."

So when in 8 out of 10 countries your sales drop is stellar?

Sales didn’t drop. Market share did. They are not equal. For example:

First Quarter:
iOS - 10 units sold.
Android - 20 units sold.
iOS has 33.3% market share, Android has 66.6%.

Second quarter:
iOS - 13 units sold.
Android - 30 units sold.
iOS has 30% market share, Android has 70%.

iOS sales actually climbed 30% (from 10 to 13), yet their market share dropped.

This is wrong and revisionist. Jobs did care about market share. He cared about it as a part of an encompassing vision for success. He understood where it played a part. But don't take my word for it. Take his. Relevant portion from 38 min to 43 min. Fair warning, you'll probably end up wanting to hear everything he said.

Never said he didn't care at all, said it wasn't the focus
And that was evident throughout his career

Love showing photos (portfolio) to others.
For this reason only I bought the 8 plus (16:9 aspect ratio) which shows the images much larger than on the X.

Also in landscape mode the notch is bothering me...

I am afraid the next 2018 line up will all have notches.... (and the new aspect ratio)

Specific unit sales. Not Apple Inc. as a whole.
The drop in iOS usage is not a good sign for the Services Revenue in the long run. That has been the only bright light for Apple over the past year. :apple:

Again, there’s no drop in iOS usage. Market share is meaningless, the number of users is all that counts. Can you point to any data that says the user base for iOS has actually gone down?

Also, you still sticking to your ridiculous prediction of 35 million iPhones sold?

To improve the market share Apple needs to wake up to the fact that a regular person needing a smartphone could be quite happy with a wide variety of Android handsets falling within the price bracket below 300$. There is just a bunch of hard core Apple fans who are ready to shell out over a 1000$ for a phone that will be outdated the following year. iPhone, after all, is merely a useful object, not a piece of art that gains extra value with time.

What you're suggesting is that Apple cheapen their brand reputation. They've spent years billing themselves as a premium product (which they are). If they released a sub-$300 phone, it would go against everything they'd built. It would make people less willing to pay for their high-end phones and hurt them overall.

That's not going to happen.

For the X 35 million. Total iPhone sales 81-82 Million. :apple:

LOL. You think iOS usage dropped based on these numbers? These numbers are not official, have flawed methodology, and are merely guesses based on samples. They change drastically by the month.

Active iOS users are higher than ever (according to Apple on the last earnings call). Market share is numbers are utterly useless. Jobs used to say this all the time. He also used to criticize the accuracy of them and even showed charts of how wildly different companies pegged Apple's share.

Let's see what you say on 2/1 when the REAL numbers are out.

I love mine. I just wish it was bigger.

WHAT? It feels like a 17" Powerbook. ! I returned mine thanks God. It is a piece of garbage. Heavy, super expensive and the only good thing was the camera compared to other iPhones because Androids has better cameras and are way cheaper.

Buttons are hard, face recognition is a waste of time, takes too long and always takes you to the numeric pad any way.

Apple just sold a brick and is laughing at us.

If this report is true, it isn't surprising. Why? Because I'm the anti-Apple customer.... whatever Apple products I like/buy do not reflect the majority. I don't like the X hence, selling like hotcakes.

Ok, then you at least are not insane. You won't know if the X sold 35M because they don't break out mix. You can maybe estimate basedon ASP, but 82M would be an all time record and almost assuredly would mean a blow out quarter. I think they'll sell more than 82M.

I'm not surprised at the growth of Android here in the UK in recent months. Samsung spent an awful lot on TV Ads. Sony was there as well. Apple? Tumbleweeds blowing in the wind.

Apple's End of Year rating? MUST do better.

Samsung can spend as much as they want on ads but It doesn’t make the product any better, the iPhone X along with IOS is a much better device in my opinion. I’m also from the UK. Love my iPhone X by far the best one yet.

It's the second, and ongoing months, that matter to investors, not the impulse reaction of a new iPhone "in several" markets. So far sales suggest this momentum is not carrying forward. Apple can't just be a flash in the pan kind of company where they have one good month and then 11 other months fixing their mistakes.

I disagree on everyone of these points and wonder if you have really used an X...

Where’s all the “Apple is doomed, iPhone X sucks because it ain’t selling” commenters...?

In the mid 1990's I bought a Powerbook 150 used at CompUSA....it was $1200....and could not do 2% of what the iPhone ten can do for $200 less.

Hmm, what kind of comparison is that? I cannot believe someone actually LIKED it.

That's like saying, "My Ford Edsel couldn't do what my Jaguar can." :D
I had a Powerbook 180c. I did as much with it than any iPhone I've ever had given the difference in the internet, also making it a useless comparison. I also had a mobile NEXTEL phone that I could use as a walkie talkie. You can't exactly do that today. You can do much more, but not by just pressing ONE button to talk to someone.

And furthermore, why are people gloating about POOR SALES???

You'll never find out from Apple, but looking at various sites, the iPhone 7 is more sold out than the iPhone X! HAHA! :D

Seriously, normally when new iPhones come out, people trade in the older phone. NOT THIS TIME. A significant number of people still find Face ID cumbersome and less practical and they're not blown away by the Animojis or the alleged better camera. Few people are trading in iPhone 7s.

Just go to Glyde and you'll see that they have few Sprint or T-Mobile iPhone 7s, and even some others. Before the iPhone X was released, there was a glut of iPhone 7s on the used market just like every pending iPhone release. No more. Dried up.

No

only android phone that you are say camera is better is the pixel 2...

Apple can no longer be trusted to report unscqued numbers. We will have a better idea of actual numbers later in Feb. In the grand scheme Q1 is meaningless. Where Apple is in Q4 will be far more reflective of future direction.:apple:

with analysts predicting "weakened demand" in Q1 2018 now that early adopters have received their iPhone X.

Demand for a new iPhone is highest at the launch to christmas period and then declines.

I guess a 6 year old could've figured that out by now.
