36 million phones. That's not my definition of a delayed product

Tsk. All these analysts and websites talking about supply constraints and none of them are taking into consideration your definition of a delayed product.

What has the world come to?

I just don't get why everyone is so quick to move away from fingerprint scanners. IT WORKS, and IT'S EASY.

I agree. It works, it's easy, and it doesn't require several components to encroach on the screen.

All I can think is that Apple are thinking further ahead and pushing Face ID because tracking the eyes/face would make a lot of sense with regards to selling advertising. But I thought that wasn't Apple's thing.

"Eh"... same ol' same ol'. If you're one of those who really wanted an IphX on launch day, then I sort of feel for you. Otherwise, just wait a few months more for the next few batches to arrive.

If that was true Apple would be decreasing stocks at stores for launches but if anything we've seen the opposite.

Apple also seems to love the publicity of hundreds waiting in line, it always makes the news.

Have to wait and see. IMO, Angela is full blast with the implementation of the new "Town Square" strategy. I don't see long lines of people being a positive at this junction. She has stated such in the past.

This was the beginning. IMO, you'll see full on with the X Launch. :apple: https://www.engadget.com/2015/04/07/apple-wants-you-to-avoid-product-launch-lines/

Apparently it's only your definition of delayed if it launches on the 3rd just like apple said and they'll produce 36 million by the end of this year. Don't see where the word delayed would fit into that whole scenario

I’ve no problem if you don’t like the look of the notch. In fact, great designs usually spark some sort of controversy and debate. But like I said, faux bezels will take care of any visual anomalies, so I don’t see why it should be a big deal or a reason to hate it.

Part of the reason for the notch is technical and part of it is marketing, absolutely. While users may not have been clamoring for a notch, they’ve certainly been clamoring for a beautiful, new, distinctive design.

Personally, I think they’ve achieved that... to me, the X looks both stunning and distinctive.
I’d be fine with it if they would blackout the background on either side and only use it for the indicators like battery, WiFi, etc. Then you wouldn’t even notice the notch.

Maybe it’s because he knows all the analyst reports are all ******** and is laughing at their stupidity and come launch day there will be sufficient stock?

He clearly doesn’t seem to be worried and if these reports are true then he would be stupid not to worry because his job depends on it. So if he’s not worried, why should everyone else be?

Good point, guess we'll see.

I wouldn't assume that. Look at the original AW launch as evidence. Many of us hit the final "buy" button 1-2 minutes after launch and end up not receiving our watches 2-6 weeks after launch.

But it was a goddamn watch, this is the company's most important product. They're well prepared.

I'd never buy the first iteration of any tech device. Let the early adopters be the beta testers.

My first iMac all-in-one 2005 was lemon, replaced mid-plane assembly twice, PSU three times.
The first iPhone was underpowered, overpriced, and quickly eclipsed as we all know.
My original iPad was annihilated by the iPad 2 which was supernatural by comparison.
My iPad 3 had overheating issues on day one, they released iPad 4 like 6 months later.
My Apple Watch SS was $500 sans band in 2015, I just sold it on eBay sans band for $99.

Good luck iPhone X buyers, you're gonna be crying next year, I promise you!

I’m not giving them credit for the notch as if it’s something desirable or clever. There is no good reason to push content up into the ears. They’re doing it so they can claim edge to edge display which is pure marketing drivel. Nobody was clamoring for a notch, yet Apple is cramming it down the throats of the users and developers and trying to pretend like it isn’t a silly design compromise.
Some posters here calling it, iconic.

This is becoming normal. The Plus iPhones, air pods and Apple Watch have all had sketchy launches with limited availability and long delivery times.

Air Pods were especially egregious and it’s a simple product compared to iPhone X.

I think some of this is Apple pushing the envelope with parts that aren’t off the shelf purchases from vendor XYZ.

It’s also possible Tim Cook feels the need to appeal to Wall Street and announce products earlier than they should to keep interest in the stock high.

Or people just buy upgrade protection and swap the phone out in a year. Whoop-a-dee-doo.

At what point do those who laughed in the faces of people who decided to buy the 8/Plus and wait for the XI, start eating humble pie?
It depends on what you’re upgrading from. If you’ve got a 7 Plus already, you may find that the jump to 8 is not enough to justify an upgrade. For such a user, 8 was never an option and it was always stick to 7 until X or later comes along.

I think pushing the envelope on parts has to do with it. Basically new products now involve new, never before made, parts that have to ramp up from prototype to ultra mass production in very short timescales. Basically, not long after you figure out how to make one, you’ve got to figure out how to make 100 million!

IDGAF, I'm preordering and going to the store to line up as well. UPS usually delivers late at my residence, so if I can get one at the store earlier that day I'm set. I will return the one I ordered online. I'm getting one, no matter what!

Is the X the new Watch 0? I didn't have the best Watch 0 experience

I liked my watch 0, but you could be right. Especially on the software side - might take them a few revisions to figure out how to deal with the notch (I’d like smarter zoom options for video and photos), and the bottom ‘home swipe’ gesture - to me that seems to reserve too much ‘safe’ space. I’d get rid of that part.

Apart from replacing touch ID with face ID, what can you actually do with this phone that you can't already do with an iPhone?

Good thing I got an 8+. Who knows what kind of software issues they're gonna have with this thing over the next year.

The Samsung Galaxy 8+ has truly dismal face recognition. It's essentially useless. Hope Apple is much better.
My S8 has recognised my face every time in a fraction of a second, so you're wrong there.

There's gonna be so many youtube channels that use animoji for their avatars in videos. The X will be a massive success if they can ever produce enough to meet demand.
