Here are some examples of the width between the iPhone X and the iPhone and iPhone Plus. (the yellow bars are the same in each picture)

My crude drawings don't take into consideration any skew in the photo's perspective... but it's close enough.

As a Plus user... I'm not exactly thrilled about the smaller keyboard on the X in portrait. But I will be getting some extra vertical real estate inside apps... so... :p

excellent pics to give exact feel of the differences. actually now it almost seems ok to me to switch from the +
lol not that it will be available any time soon in Israel.

ps - the one thing that sometimes really looks bad is the cut of the notch with the screen.. almost like a cheap screen protector. in the picture with alongside the + you can really see it.

The advantage of that extra content is nullified because all the content on the X will be smaller font than the iPhone 8 Plus including pictures and photos.

That doesn’t make any sense.
Nullify would mean you couldn’t see it on the screen.

Smaller font? Did you look at the images in the quote you quoted? The font is same size between both phones in both examples. Apple scales font to be the same across all devices.

I also just realized he said “pictures and photos” trying to be sneaky and pass the same thing off twice to make it sound like three total marks against the X screen (1: font, 2: pictures, 3: photos)

Then remove 1: because my previous post eliminates that.

So really it’s just one mark against.

Very disingenuous.
He kept trying to claim in another thread that the iPhone x had identical bezels to the pixel xl2.

iPhone Screen Area. These numbers are based on the schematics below supplied by the Apple.com website

Screen Area Calculations

X
135.75mm x 63.12mm (Screen without cut out
8568.54 mm sq
34 x 4.99 (Area of cut out)
169.66 mm sq
8399 mm sq (Actual screen area)
13.02 Square Inches

8 Plus
121.54mm x 68.36mm
8308.5 mm sq
12.88 Square Inches

8
104.05mm x 58.5mm
6087 mm Sq
9.44 Square Inches

This makes the screen area of the X 1.09% larger than the 8 Plus and 37.92 % Large than the 8

All the info can be confirmed against the document provided by Apple at the following URL

4.62 mm

Thanks for the clarification. I had seen a lot and back and forth and this seems to clear it up.

Well it looks like a cheap screen protector because that isn’t a real iPhone x. It’s probably one of the dummies with a wallpaper in it to look on.

The real iPhone x doesn’t have the carrier name on there and no battery percentage

i hope you're right.

The screen resolution is going to be better on the X vs the Plus phones. The Apple screens are sorely in need of an upgrade as they look quite awful in contrast to something like a Sammy S8 plus.

Points aren't pixels. Nor are they representative of physical dimensions. They are a not the correct way to calculate area. This is the visible viewable screen area in mm / inches.

Do you consider all the corners radius calculations ?

No, but I also didn't account for the rounded corners of the notch. So after removing the 4 rounded corners of the phone you would have to add the area from the rounded corners of the notch back, making the difference negligible.

I assume that if we do take into account the minimal loss due to all the radius corners, we end up having almost the same area of the iPhone Plus.

Wow thanks

What’s the source of these photos?

The design is flawed. When in full screen, video is obscured by the notch.

If you want notchless viewing , you will have to reduce the video size.

I understand that some people don't like the notch taking up ANY screen space. Just wondering where those anti-notchers would place the the TrueDepth front camera and facial recognition system. I'm guessing removing the front camera would freak out the "selfies" totally. And giving up the facial recogniton feature for a finger print pad on the backside would be a total disaster unless they went caseless.

Flawed? I don't think so.

I’m excited to have the smaller form factor again. I love my Plus, but I’m ready for something not so bulky.

And what if it is too small? Think Apple's going to pull the X, and reengineer it in a larger size before Sept '18?

Not sure why it would be considered too small? It has a larger surface area than the Plus. It's also slightly bigger overall than the 8. Is that phone too small? Many people like a more compact size.

I don’t think that at all and I’m all good with it.

Tall screens that are not 16:9 are straight gimmicks. It’s samsung that thought how do we innovate screen size without making the phone wider. Then everyone else followed . There is really nothing great about tall screens. About 0.00001% of web content is designed for portrait. The real innovation would have been to make a bezelless 16:9 phone.

Unfortunately, this is all preplanned based on marketing. The consumer will have to suffer at least several years of these useless designs before they “fix” it and start selling bezelless 16:9 phones.
