2018 was an S year for the 5.8” model; XS was an internal upgrade—better than the X in almost every way. XS Max was new, and the XR was a new design.

That said, I don’t think we’ll see many obvious differences in the design of the 2019 models, besides the back. iPhone has been a mature product for years, and designs are going to be mostly iterative for years at a time. Apple’s never really been one for “change for the sake of change”.

Well, Apple's releasing their phones on a 3-year cycle, so I guess this year's models are going to be the last iteration of the X design... with the purported additional changes.

I really need to know if the iPhone will be switching to USB-C or not.
Not a chance. Out of 1.1+ billion devices, almost all are Lightning, and there are well under 50 million USB-C only Macs. There are 3+ billion USB-A cables and chargers. On iPhone, USB-C brings nothing to the table for most, and would be a worse physical connector for all. Tons of downside with almost no up.

So over the years we went thinner. Now we are going thicker and yet we are not getting any benefits. Where is Apple cutting corners? OLED is meant to draw less power, A chips are meant to be more efficient and so on so on and yet, the battery life is usually the same (except XR) but the phone is thicker. This simply doesn't add up.

USB-C will literally change the direction I go in my next iPhone purchase. It's THAT important.

Why? What is wrong with Lightning? Wireless charging is the real game changer. No cables at all. Do you need super-fast charging? Do you need faster data transfers? In what way is Lightning vs. USB-C holding you back? Or do you just view Lightning as inferior and you can't have that in your world?
