i am only interested in function, not form. if the 2019er has better specs for making and receiving calls in all conditions i am in. what i read, the x and xr and xs have problems, i dont know exactly, im not a tekki... i am still on iphone 7 and wait for a good spec’d iphone. btw the triangle of the lenses make sense because of same distances may result in better photos

Better camera’ s + extra wide angle camera
Better front camera
Faster and better faceid
Bigger battery
charge sharing
Faster soc.

Seems like a nice upgrade from the iPhone 6 to first gen iPhone X or iPhone XR.

But it seems to be the base for the 2020 iPhones in specs and hardware and the logical step towards a redesign for the 2020 models.

I am glad in a way that phone design seems to have levelled out. For too long I would upgrade as soon as possible to the next model when my previous model was perfectly fine. If there was a re-design this year I would have surely gone for it. As it stands, I have an iPhone X and all these months on from the XS I am soooo glad I didn't bother to upgrade.

I assumed that upgrading this year was a certainty, but, I am not convinced. Unless Apple have something £1K worth of special hidden inside that almost identical but slightly uglier body :)

If the whole device gets 0.4mm thicker and the notch gets 0.4mm thinner, I think that’s a fantastic trade off, necessitated by the new triple camera bump having a significantly larger surface area then the double camera scheme. Decreasing the bump’s depth would reduce its ‘bumpiness’ and would make its whole volume less imposing

Apple: We have reinvented the mute switch. It is now better than ever... /s

They should integrate the camera lenses into the Apple logo on the back. The "bump" on the corner is getting more and more ridiculous as it increases in size.
Do you realise how uncomfortable having the camera there would be? When you use the phone, your fingers touch the logo most of the time and someone you need to take a photo the quickest you can.

Although the idea is cool, to have something in the Apple logo, it's not practical at all.

This is frustrating. If Apple is willing to make the iPhone a bit thicker (most likely to accommodate a larger battery, which is great), they should also be willing to make Macbooks a bit thicker to accommodate a non-garbage keyboard.

Don't worry, the thickness won't come from the bigger battery. It'll come from the charging coils they'll slap all over the place to allow you to make your phone an AirPower and charge all of your other Apple devices that are constantly running out of power. Makes sense considering you need to keep charging your phone most pf the time anyway.

This year it's going to be all about the camera for me. If it blows me away I'm in. If not, it's X for another year and maybe a newer pixel as my work device.

Edit: usb c too. Lightning is no sale.

What do you want? Them to design a plastic screened phone that'll be released to the tech press and then get shelved because it breaks in two days?

At least they're trying? If they weren't, then nothing would ever move forward. Apple doesn't act, it reacts. Oh, and they already had the more expensive blunder in the most hated keyboards on the planet.

The lense arrangement makes my OCD twitch. Why not 4 camera's with the flash in the middle like the number 5 on a dice?

Wouldn't that be expensive?

I don't get why this design is so controversial. The camera implications are huge. 3 lenses allows for such a huge improvement on camera technology. It's going to start a as-good-as DSLR era for phone camera technology.

I’m guessing the three cameras won’t be enough to get most people to upgrade before the 5G version is available next year.

Yup

It’s depends on trade in cost but I’ve reached a point in my life that’s its stupid and fiscally irresponsible to upgrade $1,000+ Smartphones every year.... I’m waiting until my AppleCare runs out and then I’ll think about what Apple has to offer

Why? What is wrong with Lightning? Wireless charging is the real game changer. No cables at all. Do you need super-fast charging? Do you need faster data transfers? In what way is Lightning vs. USB-C holding you back? Or do you just view Lightning as inferior and you can't have that in your world?
I don’t care either way but if USB-C isn’t superior why did they make the switch on the iPad Pro?

I wouldn’t be too happy if this was the design simply bc it doesn’t look as beautiful as some of the competitors such as Samsung’s phones and other androids.

They should do a complete redesign making it more advanced looking.
