I see you skirted the question, regardless, we’re not talking about cases, you mentioned bringing a phone into a shower utilizing a plastic bag, Fact is, that’s counterproductive actually be able use the phone if it’s in a plastic bag, that’s where the irony is in your previous post. (As in, The purpose of bringing a phone in the shower, would be actually using the phone, am I right?)
My question wasn’t skirting the question because my answer depended on your answer. A plastic bag is a cheap alternative to putting it in a waterproof case. You can still easily see/use the touch screen and hear the audio through the plastic. And it’s very waterproof. You may be thinking of a different type of plastic bag. We were talking about a “ziplock” baggie.

It’s obvious you’re twisting this discussion to fit your narrative, and I’m fine with that, it’s just what I’m indicating, is if you have to put your phone in a plastic bag to take it in the shower, then why are you taking your phone in the shower with you in the first place if it’s fairly counterproductive to use? I mean, who does that? Who puts their phone up to the ear with a plastic bag to hear the audio? I’m just trying to emphasize real world experience versus justifying reasoning that doesn’t make much sense.

Either way, we can agree to disagree, thanks for the discussion.

I’m a bit confused by your response. Not trying to twist anything. Maybe we’re not talking about the same thing? I don’t know.
But a phone is totally usable in a ziplock bag. l suppose it’s a little weird to put it to your ear, but it still works fine. And for all other uses (music, etc) it’s not weird, it all works fine—just like it would in a waterproof case. So going back to my earlier point, if they both work the same, and if a waterproof case isn’t ironic, then I really don’t see how a plastic bag is ironic.
But sure, we can agree to disagree (if in fact it is a disagreement, not sure).

Hi guys,
I just bought an iPhone XR and I know that it is water resistant however I am unsure as to if I can take it into the shower or not, anyone know?
I hate how many people question why you need a phone in the shower! From my personal experience, having an iPhone XR currently and also having had an iPhone 7 for years, they both tend to work really well in water, but the speakers may be harmed. I have yet to use my XR in the shower without a case, but I normally just put it in a ziploc bag, which works well. It’s also hard to keep a good grip on the wet phone so be careful of that.

Why would you want to? Is there anything remotely _that_ important where you have to take your new XR iPhone in the shower with you? Why risk it.

‍♂️

Well, for one... can we stop making each other feel so stupid? If you’re not here to answer the question, just be quiet and move on to the next question.

Not that it’s SUPER IMPORTANT, I would like to bring my phone inside the shower just to watch videos, or maybe the live morning news. I don’t know about everyone else’s shower but mine is at least big enough to ha e my phone at one end, furthest from the shower head.

Is that so hard to imagine why someone might want to bring their phone into the shower??? I don’t think so...

Thanks heaps mate. Appreciate that you came onto this thread to actually answer the question at hand and not judge what I am intending on doing with my phone, thanks to the rest that simply answered the question and left.

I would think a ziplock baggie is fine paired with a water resistant Bluetooth speaker that can sit on the counter.

I don’t think people want to ‘intentionally’ break their devices but sometimes I think some like to take device manufacturer claims to task & beyond the limits of sensibility.
Showers and phones have never been a thing and that’s as how it should be imo

I understand people advising that the xr is not waterproof, because it isn’t. But a non-waterproof device can be waterproofed. We’ve had that technology for awhile. So if you take measures to waterproof it, what’s the remaining logical objection?

I believe you and I already had this discussion, but the reality is, it’s not ‘waterproofed’ from the manufacturer, even if someone takes their own measures to essentially waterproof something that may or may _not_ be reliable. Taking your phone in the shower is nothing more than a risk, even if it’s in a bag or whatever else, it doesn’t make it waterproof, it simply is someone else’s measure they take, because they feel the need to have their iPhone with them at all times, which is their prerogative.

I think you’re essentially saying there is always a risk no matter what precautions you take. Which I guess is true. But it’s also true even if it’s waterproofed from the manufacturer. There’s no such thing as no risk. Even a camera meant for underwater photography can get water damage in an unlikely accident, which may or may not be covered under a warranty. So all we can do is take away any reasonable risk. Otherwise we are paralyzed from doing what we want.

Have a 10 minute shower without your phone would be my advice. Nobody needs to take their iPhone into the shower unless they are addicted to the bloody thing lol.
If people are checking facebook during a shower, I’d say that’s a bit extreme for my taste, though I wouldn’t go so far as to judge them. But I see listening to music or audiobook or podcast as perfectly reasonable, especially during those occasional obscenely long showers.

I’d rather not expose my iPhone to steam regardless of its water resistance. If people want to listen to music then whatever floats their boat, I’d rather have a shower in peace lol.

Hey.
Ive used all ny phones in the shower since my samsung galaxy x5.. none of them has ever broken.. but i do not reccomened pouring water on it just for the sake of it.. I havent had any problems what so ever. When im done, i dry the phone with a towel then blow out all of the water fro the mic, speakers and the charging hole,, not reccomended, but i have never had problems

I use my iphone xr in the shower every day.
I go in the shower as soon as I get in, before making tea. My wife rings me while she is driving home from work and she likes to talk about her day and tell me what she wants for tea.
I’ve never had an issue.
Every day since May this year and all is well.

You’re brave. I wouldn’t be doing that.

I must say I like the reason you use yours in the shower. That is how a marriage thrives in this crazy world.

I once dropped my SE into a fish tank. I got it out in about a second, but considering it's not water resistant at all and it's still working... I'd assume a phone with any sort of waterproofing would be OK as long as the phone isn't directly in the stream. So maybe a bath would be a better idea?

I usually have my phone on the bathroom counter while I'm showering, and I haven't noticed any issues doing that. Again, it's an SE, so I would imagine an X/R/11 would be just fine as well.

You’re brave. I wouldn’t be doing that.
Why not? It's advertised as water resistant.
