Hi guys,
I just bought an iPhone XR and I know that it is water resistant however I am unsure as to if I can take it into the shower or not, anyone know?

Apple: "To prevent liquid damage, avoid these:

.. Exposing your iPhone to pressurized water or high velocity water, such as when showering
.. Operating your iPhone outside the suggested temperature ranges or in extremely humid conditions"

Phone is tested under controlled conditions to give it the water resistance results. Water pressure would not be one of those controlled conditions. Apple probably put the phone gently into some water to get the results. I would not even put a phone anywhere near water steam in my opinion.

And others have spilled a bit of water on one or dropped it into a sink with some water and pulled it out right away and still got some moisture damage.

Hi guys,

It’s the same as the iPhone 7 and 8 plus ip67. I say it’s fine but don’t complain if it is ruined. Like I took my 7 and 8 out of separate vacations in the water. And no problems. Both phones were briefly underwater for like 2 feet for 2 seconds.

I used to clean my 7 and 8 by running it through water lol. True story.

If it hasn't already been mentioned, you can put your iPhone in a zip-lock bag and it works well in the shower.

Using the phone in the shower seems absurd and pointless to me, but what about the bath? Obviously makes more sense as more time to use it without fear of water being fired at the phone but what about the moisture? Moisture and electrical items is obviously not a good combo but what could the long term effects of it be? For example, I always use my ipad when I am in the bath and have done for years and luckily have not seen any degradation, but could there be? How to tell if this is having a negative impact?

I just don’t get it, why bring your phone or iPad in a bathtub with you? I mean, it’s your property and you can do so as you wish, but why take the risk of possibly submerging the device underwater by accident or steam that could potentially affect the internal components?

As expensive as Apple products are, I don’t see the reward when the risks are greater.

Read, watch a show/movie/sporting event, do general life admin etc. etc. Usually spend a good hour in the bath so want to be productive whilst in there, and I'll never drop it in the bath (if I did any damage would serve me right) but I do worry about steam affecting the innards!

I'd rather have enjoyed and used my stuff freely than constantly nurture every task based around potential.

Why would you want to? Is there anything remotely _that_ important where you have to take your new XR iPhone in the shower with you? Why risk it.

If you take your iPhone into the shower you risk losing your warranty completely. That's my #1 issue with it lol

even though apple advertises ip67, its truly not ip67. simple marketing term for people to think it is to induce water damage repairs etc. Be forewarned.

I'm not going to pretend that I'm not addicted to my phone or that I'm high and mighty.. but even I have enough control to put the phone down to shower. I recommend you take my advise and do the same OP.

Never underestimate the "Duh" factor.

If someone can't be without their phone for sub-10 minutes while conducting basic personal hygiene, then they have serious problems and deserve to be judged. Not to mention, a shower is generally a two-handed activity for those who have two hands.

You're reenforcing all points of my statement.

Well, by all means, tell us a good use case for using your phone in the shower.

This is already tiresome, but I suppose I was asking for it. First tell me, does someone have “serious problems” if they use their phone to poke through their music library while folding their laundry—or to listen to a podcast while doing their dishes—or to create a reminder while brushing their teeth (before they forget the thought)? All short menial daily tasks. If these are acceptable examples of behavior to you, then tell me what is the specific fundamental difference about a shower? If you say it is because of the dangers of water and steam, well isn’t that the very question the OP was asking?

Well, I see you couldn't just answer the question, so that's that.

Using a phone in the shower is stupid and the vast majority of humanity would tend to agree.
