Loopy case is where it’s at for using the phones one-handed.

And no I’m not in any way affiliated with them, but I’ve brought it up a lot in the threads because the case is awesome for one-handed use.

Thanks for letting us know about this case! I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I weren't saving pennies for a new iPad Pro . . . .

When I say I can use it one handed this is what I mean.

I can hold it comfortably and securely one handed and navigate or browse without feeling like it may slip out of my hand. Couldn't do that with my 7 plus or Pixel 2 XL. Yeah I can't reach the top of the screen. But I haven't been able to with most phones. When I can't do something one handed I just bring the other one up and do what I need to do.
Can you reach the bottom of the screen? That is my main beef with the Xr: I cannot reach the bottom, and therefore I cannot go to the home screen and switch apps.

No issues reaching the bottom. And as I stated before I have small hands. Everyone's hands are different. So what might work for one may not work for another.

Maybe I'll try in the Apple store again.

I'm guessing they have them hooked up to security tethers on the back like most stores. Never been to an apple store so not sure how they do it. Anyway being able to hold one without something blocking how you may hold it may change things. Maybe an apple employee will have a personal one and they will let you hold it.

You're right, phones are getting bigger. But there's still a large segment of customers who would prefer smaller phones. Is it big enough to be a profitable segment? I don't know.

As for me, I will just hang on to my iPhone 7 as long as it continues to work.
If the outcry is loud enough, I'm sure someone will cater to you. My mother is the same way. I keep offering to buy her a new phone, but she says she can't stand how big they all are now. I might just get her an 8 for Christmas.

Serious question - how do you hold your phone? I recently moved from the 8 to the XR, and I have no trouble performing most tasks one-handed. I prefer typing with two hands, but that's a preference - I could one-hand it easy enough.

I use my pinky finger to cradle my phone (lightning port area) and my thumb has no trouble reaching the bottom of the phone, or the top for that matter. I can swipe down on the right side for control center, middle for notifications, and bottom to switch apps/access home screen easily, all one-handed with the XR just resting on my little finger. I've always rested my phone on my pinky, and moving from the 8 to the XR was more an adjustment in terms of how heavy it is than navigating the OS.

I can’t use my 8+ completely one handed and even with reachability I’m sliding the phone across my fingers more often than not. I would imagine it’s similar on the XR based on its size. The real pain though is putting it in my pocket. I have to remove it when I sit down as it sticks into my pelvis or it slides out.

Big iPhones can be nice to use but the portability is something many of us will never get used to. My wife absolutely hates my 8+ lol and she’s in for a shock next upgrade as Apple has stuck a big two fingers up to consumers who liked the standard iPhone 8 size unless you cough up a grand. Depressing really.

I just checked. I tend to have the pinky higher (at the backside of the phone, below the home button), not all the way down at the bottom edge of the phone. I should try to go to the Apple store and try again. But perhaps the issue is that at the Apple store, the phones are attached to the anti-theft device, so if you hold them too low, the balance is off.

Apple stores are the best place to try out iPhone as they are on tethers but are very lose so you can put the phone in your pocket even if you want. It gives you a lot of freedom to try out the phone unhindered. Unlike other stores that bolt them down in cages!!

Does the loop integrate back into the case when not in use?

Also, are you left/right in your profile pic?

I was adamant I didn’t want a big phone. I kept my iPhone 5 till it died and hated having to buy the 6s. I got used to it barely but still felt it was too big.

Not sure when that changed buy a few months ago I started to feel it was a little small screen wise. Soon as I picked up the Xr I loved it.

I think for me personally it’s just about right. Reason the 6/7/8 were ‘too big’ was because they were so light and slippery. I always felt like I was about to drop it. The Xr extra weight makes a difference to me.

I moved to the XR from an SE. It did take some getting used to but now I'd never go back to a smaller phone.

Just for kicks I pulled out my first iPhone, a 3G, plugged it in the charger and it still works. All I can say is the phones have come a very long way. The 3G is cute but it's now just a toy.

I honestly didn't think I'd do this.. but I picked up an XR today. I wanted an XS as I feel it's the perfect size, but I compromised and I am happy pretty happy so far. I'll get used to the XR's compromises such as the thicker bezels to accommodate the LCD panel.

Also switched from an iPhone SE and while the size and weight has taken some getting used to (especially with a case), I wouldn't be able to go to a smaller screen again. Even my girlfriend's iPhone 7 looks tiny now in comparison.

i switched from the iphone 5S. still struggling with weight and size, and it makes me dont want to pick up my phone. the screen is too big for my needs too. hopefully things will improve, or i might change to a pixel 3 or iphone x

My response is not necessarily aimed at you,
but I don’t understand why everyone keeps bringing up these ‘thicker bezels’, it’s not even close to being thick compared to how the iPhones used to be and this new iPhone is all display, and that’s what the consumer will see. It seems like the only one complaining about that bezels are those on a tech forum, outside of this website, its a non-existent topic.

The Xr is closer to the Xs Max in width. It's about 2mm narrower than Max, but almost 5mm wider than Xs.

The Xr is 75.7 mm wide.
The Xs Max is 77.4mm wide.
The Xs is 70.9 mm wide.

However due the aluminum, I found the XR much lighter than the XS Max. Even though it's heavier than the X/XS, because of the bigger size, the perceived weight feels light than the X/XS as well.

After a week I can say I’m really loving mine. Of course I came from an 8+ so I’m not really dealing with the “bigger” issues. I know I put it near my daughter’s 8+ in the car a few days ago, and her phone looked really big in comparison (we both use the same type of case, so that didn’t make a difference), although side by side the difference really isn’t that great.

The bezels are a non-issue for me also, as I was used to looking at big, white, top and bottom bezels before.

I’m still thinking it’s a pretty great phone.

I completely agree. I had my typical buyer’s questioning for the first evening and since then have been very satisfied with this purchase. The bezels (not to mention the notch) are a nonissue. I simply don’t notice them.

The size (coming from a 6s) is a nonissue. I met a young woman the other night who has a Max. She loves it. Oh, and she is all of five feet tall, tops.

And the screen? Comparing it closely with a Max the other afternoon, with font sizes the same, I was hard pressed to see any difference in text, my greatest concern. I’m sure the XS/Max phones have deeper blacks, but I do only the occasional video on my phone. I simply cannot watch a movie on such a small screen. Again, a non-issue.

What I do notice is the $450 for a comparable Max that I didn spend.
