Wow, whoever made this decision (on such a small capacity should be fired). It should essentially double your capacity or come close to it. We'll see what the XR has - but at this point what a complete FUBAR of a product.

People who suggest the small size of the battery is because of the wireless charging coil...
Seriously, check online, they are extremely thin and cheap.

Plus, now we know why they don't want to release the size of the battery upon release.
Because it's crap.

People forget this will save battery capacity in your iphones internal battery

How and this is a genuine question?

The phone, to my knowledge, has no way of using the external power before/instead of it's own battery. It works the same way as plugging the phone in or having it on a wireless charger whilst in use. The power management in the phone will shut off the external power supply once the battery is full. It will then keep it topped up on a trickle charge. So the phone will use some battery until it reaches the predetermined level of drain, it will then take the power from the external power source to top it back up.

If it indeed does work the way you suggest then it is a worthwhile investment as it will save your phone battery. But I don't believe that is how it works. Happy to be corrected though.

I could spend $179 (CDN) on this insanely overpriced battery case or spend $15 for an Anker portable battery and be mildly inconvenienced when the XR eventually runs out of battery. Hmmm

Call me crazy... but even then. 50% extra juice may be worth it.. it’s just enough for all day events.. leaving the house at 3pm out with friends till 2am... this will be enough juice to surf social media or take pictures... I don’t think anybody is trying to go 3 days without charging their phone.

In what world is 50% extra battery for $129 acceptable o_O I can get an Anker that charges 100% for $30

Wirecutter's Nick Guy has obtained early access to Apple's new Smart Battery Cases for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, and he has shared some notable details and photos about the cases on his Twitter account.

Most notably, Guy notes the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max cases each have 1,369 mAh battery capacities, making them the lowest-capacity Smart Battery Cases ever released. Apple's older battery cases for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 have capacities of 1,877 mAh and 2,365 mAh respectively.

Apple says the iPhone XS paired with the case offers up to 33 hours of talk time, up to 21 hours of internet use, and up to 25 hours of video playback, while the iPhone XS Max paired with the case offers up to 37 hours of talk time, up to 20 hours of internet use, and up to 25 hours of video playback.

He also notes that the iPhone XS case weighs 3.46 ounces, while the iPhone XS Max case comes in at 3.81 ounces.

Guy provided close-up photos of the new cases and compared them to the older versions. The biggest difference is the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max versions no longer have a chin extending past the bottom of the iPhone.

Apple introduced Smart Battery Cases for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR yesterday. Each is priced at $129 in the United States, with deliveries and in-store availability slated to begin Friday. Apple says the cases are not compatible with iPhone 8 or iPhone X models, but we'll see how true that is soon.

Lower capacity but with much better battery life when you compare to iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case

God forbid you only have 100 pics/selfies of a night out, instead of the 150 that are necessary.

After seeing this I went over to Mophie.com to compare their upcoming versions. Their case for the Max has 2200 mAh capacity, can be charged wirelessly or via USB-C, unobstructed access to the lightning port and is nicer looking (IMO) with more color choices, for $10 less.

Why on Earth would anyone choose Apple's version instead?
Because of the smart battery management, trying to preserve iPhone original battery as long as possible. And because of audio-video signal passing through lightning port. And 2200 mAh capacity is just half or the equation, therefore is easy to make wrong assumptions and make a wrong choice

Tim told me it’s china’s fault that they reduced the battery capacity. Don’t ask why, just believe.

still eats into the battery's form factor. Plus you have to consider thermal issues. Only a tear down will end this butt-hurt screeching.

We need to reiterate the mAh myth and MR would be good to not jump on clickbait titles - something that could have been solved had the editor just Google searched "does more mah mean more battery" or looking at Apple's battery quote time compared to the previous version before reposting some twit's Twitter findings.

Along with megapixels, core count, and megahertz, people just look at one part of the numbers and assume more = better.
So are the Mods going to clarify? Or was clickbait their intention?

I think you're right. At the end of the day, Apple could've made these cases with the same battery capacity as the Mophie, the Mophie still is far more attractive to me

Only thing left to do for them is to distribute all fo their employees in every exit and ramps and ask for spare change. WTF Apple! I was all Apple, have been using iPhone since iPhone 6. I have X now. But this could be my last iPhone like most people. I really really hope, they come to their senses and make Apple, Apple again. Miss you Steve Jobs. :(

Regardless, doesn't change the fact that its a small battery case.
Let say you are travelling. Whats is the point of this, if the battery case can be empty before you even got on the plane...
