Did something happen to Jony Ive?

I really wonder what he is up to these days. I don't think he is actively overseeing the updates to current products but rather working on some of the possible next big things (likely with AR). I cant wait to see what him and his team have been up to, even if its not for several more years.

I'm a longtime Apple customer and fan for over 30 years. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to support Apple with my purchase dollars so long as these ridiculous antics continue of giving less and charging more. Apple is going down the John Scully road here, and we all know where that leads.
Now, what if this new battery case offers actually more energy (10 Wh) vs the iPhone 7 Smart Battery case (7 Wh), while also adding the wireless charging option? Would that still make a 30% price increase unconscionable?

Edit: It appears based on mAh and output voltage, the Xs/XsMax and iPhone 7 Smart Battery cases might have pretty similar Wh (both about 11.x Wh), but let's see if those numbers get confirmed further.

I think it's time for Apple to make the leap to solid state sodium ion battery technology. Lithium ion polymer is so 1980s... I'm no marketing guru, but I have a hunch people would pay more (for a phone) if they got longer battery life. Heck, they already pay extra for these bat packs.

Well, I regularly go on hikes where I am without a power outlet for 5 to 8 h (and I am OCD enough to keep checking my fitness app and digital mapping way too frequently such that battery can run out during this time period).
Portable battery pack that has 10-20x the mAh at 1/5 the price? They're literally less than a pound in weight and can be thrown in your bag when not in use.

Sorry but nobody paying more for these iphones now.......1k is bad enough and know you want to pay more.......

I wouldn’t be interested anyway, even if the capacity was better/what it should be for the price you pay. I could never get past that ugly hump in the back. Of course, with that joke of a battery capacity, Apple is without a doubt ripping people off now.

Well, that's what I've been using for the last couple of years. But apart from yet another item to remember to pack (incl. cable) and to stow away, it it is somewhat annoying to have both my phone and the battery pack in my pants pocket with the charging cable hanging out partially and getting hooked on vegetation, fences, etc..

P.S.: For me thus, a battery case makes sense to use on such days when I am outdoors for long stretches, and a relatively thin phone without battery case for all other days.

The iPhone 7 case gave an 83% boost (22 hours when combined with phone, vs 12 for phone alone) to iPhone 7 internet usage time. The XS case gives a 75% boost (21 hours when combined with phone, vs 12 for phone alone)

The old case gave you more time any way you slice it.
The old case gave you more time any way you slice it? Really? Let me slice it like this:

I’d value actual hours of use over some irrelevant percentages.

Update: While the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max Smart Battery Cases have a lower 1,369 mAh rating compared to previous versions, they run at a higher voltage that yields a total of 10.1 Wh of energy. The iPhone 7 version of the case is rated at 8.98 Wh and the iPhone 6/6s version is rated at 7.13 Wh, so the new cases actually have a higher capacity than previous ones.

Might wanna consider rewriting the article's title as well as giving more prominence to the Wh write up.

iPhone XS battery is 10.13 Wh, iPhone XS Max is ~ 12.08 Wh
Samsung S9 is 11.55 Wh, S9+ is 13.47Wh
Yep...and which one lasts longer in real usage. The stuff I read was in favor of iOS the last I checked.

Agreed.

I really think they are trying to see how much they can charge for less and see who still buys it. I'll just carry around my $5 battery pack and charger in the small backpack I have......it gets the same amount of charge for 1/4 of the cost.

Did you see that the battery capacity may not be as small as we were first told?! People don’t read very far down in articles I see.

It's embarrassing and saddening to see both the article and the comments here.. It just goes to show how low we have fallen in recent years. People are complaining and nagging about things even when they obviously have no clue on how it all works.

Amperes have zero meaning or value without knowing the voltage. What use is a insanely high amount of amperes if the voltage is really low? Same goes the other way around. It's almost like people would prefer to have a 10'000 mAh battery running at 1V over a batter with 1'000 mAh running at 10V even though the battery performance would be the same..

Talk about jumping the shark... The actual watts-per-hours in these newer battery cases are higher than the previous ones, still people act and behave like these newer ones are vastly inferior.... Get a grip......
