I would imagine is the X S Max is probably heavier and less pocket friendly
XS Max also has the tilt view display that can show things like the contacts list on the left and detailed contact info on the right or the email inbox on the left and a specific message on the right when held in landscape mode. That has been a feature on the plus models since the 6 Plus.

You know this is basically what happens every "S" year, right? Refinements and improvements on the previous year's features. This is how Apple has done it for a long time, with few exceptions.

I don't understand how so many people are surprised or upset about the lack of new features.
Last year (X launch) was supposed to be an "S" year, to be fair.

Tim Cook lost it way as well as Apple. It truly shows with the current prices, that the only thing he cares is about performing for the investors and charge outrageous prices rather than for users that actually purchase the Apple products. You can see all along the Apple line up with the iMac Pro, and the Macbook Pro both Remembertariffs are both ways. I’ll-advised is tariffs and retaliatory Chinese tariffsridiculously expensive.
One word - tariffs. That is not Tim Cook

Shockingly light?

iPhone Xs Max - 7.34oz, 208g

iPhone 8 Plus - 7.13oz, 202g

iPhone 7 Plus - 6.63oz, 188g

I think the euphoria over shiny new iPhones has clouded people's senses. Let's see what they think of the weight after they've spent a week with the device.

Last year (X launch) was supposed to be an "S" year, to be fair.

I don't see how that excuses anything though. Last year they introduced what was probably the most radical new iPhone yet, the X. This year is an "S" year, as confirmed by the fact that they're literally adding "S" to the names of the phones. If anything, shouldn't the fact that they unveiled such big stuff last year make it MORE reasonable that this year is an "S" year?

4S, 5S and 6S all used to have major new features, or at the very least the performance upgrades were quite significant (Siri, Touch ID, 3D touch). Plus performance from the 4 to 4S was also night and day, 5S was the first to move to the 64 bit architecture, while the 6S again was a huge upgrade performance wise from the 6 (especially the plus). This one doesn't have any of that. Of course performance with iOS 12 is already quite fast but still, nothing on this phones to make you really itch to have them.

Probably a stupid question, but will I be able to use ESIM if I and paying on my phone using a carrier plan. Like At&t Next

Looks like the XR will be a good choice for most, who want the cheaper iPhone!
XR will be a good choice for a majority of the customers unless you need a specific feature of the XS like the zoom camera or just want to have the absolute best device made. Size seems to be a good compromise but there will also be those for whom that plus or minus 0.4" screen size is a game changer and worth an additional $250 - $350.

How do you know how big the performance increase is on these new phones?

I wasn't trying to excuse anything. I was just saying that I can see why a person might be disappointed by what was announced as killer features this year.

We also got our first taste of Touch ID on an S year. So historically we haven't even been devoid of game changing features on S upgrades.

Anyway, just adding to yhe discourse. I do wish I had waited for the "plus" sized device, but as it stand, the X will be part of my life for at least another year, maybe two. Just not enough for me here.

I do not need shockingly light, I need longer battery life and a headphone hack, ..!! Actually the vintage iPhone 4/s with straight (non-curved) steel band was one of the most sophistically feeling iPHones to date.

Very smart of Apple to make people wait for the more affordable, reasonably priced option.

Humans are very impatient. Why isn't fast charging an advertised thing? USB-C should have been made standard. I guess that's next year?

How do you know how big the performance increase is on these new phones?

If it was notable, Apple would have mentioned it. Historically, they've loved a good curved graph showing how each new iPhone is 2-3x faster than the last one.
