UPS just updated with my shipment information. Delivers Friday Sept. 21 "by end of day". I prefer to have them deliver to the UPS Store down the street so I don't worry about missing the delivery at my house.
Woohoo, thanks for sharing that, just checked and same here. Exciting!

I’ll wait until November so I cover the 12 payments on the Apple Upgrade program. Besides I get to see if there are any early adopter hardware issues.

Beta software I can do, since there is a rollback path. Hardware is a little harder to roll back.
You don’t have to wait. When you sign up it will automatically get you caught up and let you do it by paying an extra payment.

I ordered a Max and it is also in the "Preparing to Ship" state. The order is going to ship to my house but I would like to change that and ship it to my office so I don't have to work from home that day. I've tried going to the Apple store, talked to the experts, etc. So far, I (and they) can't find a way to do it. I thought I would ask here. Maybe someone here knows a trick.

Anyone every have one show up early?
I've never had one deliver early. Apple is pretty committed to delivery on launch day. I don't mind waiting. The forums here, watching the progress from China to my home, for me that's the fun part. I always love getting my new iPhone but I also always feel a little let down that this part is over for another year. I have no life.

UPS is the shipper for my XS MAX 256 Gold. Reference# trick is now working (put phone# in reference field). It responds with "A UPS shipping label has been created", shows my destination city, and gives the real tracking number. (As of Sunday 7:42 AM CDT)
slick trick !!

Mine doesn't show anything. How did you format your phone # ?

From what I've read here, you probably can't change the shipping address - but, it looks like you may be able to tell UPS or FedEx to hold it for pickup. Once you get an official routing number, you could try that.

My husband's phone is now showing up on UPS, and in the list of reference numbers, I see his 10-digit phone number (no spaces) and also his Apple order number without the last 2 digits.

He ordered about 5 minutes before I did, so I'm hoping mine shows up soon. Of course, last year, one of our phones was delivered by UPS, and the other one by FedEx.

Picking up at an Apple store is the best option if you have one close to you. No BS of waiting for the UPS truck to arrive or missing your house, no need to be at home waiting to sign, etc.. Last time I showed up at the Apple store on my chosen time slot and got my phone within minutes and was out of there while next to me there was a huge line of people that were trying to by at the store whatever was left.

Or you could similarly have it held at the UPS hub and pick it up. For a most of us rural folk, that is often the closer and quicker option than driving to an Apple store or waiting for delivery.

UPS is showing me a tracking number and says “order processed: ready for UPS”
Scheduled by end of day Friday.

If I change my preference to a UPS store now, I assume it will still arrive on Friday?

XS 256GB Black, preparing to ship.

I'm torn between classic black and gold. I feel like the gold is a bit much. It has that 1% vibe. Like a Rolex, but with canary yellow diamonds on the wrist, face and bezel. A bit much.
I wish they had some in the store I could see first hand.

Thanks... Love your avatar... I've tried in the past to change the address or ask them to hold it at the main station but it won't let me until they make a first attempt. I don't fully understand. Both Fed-Ex and UPS seem to do this. I'm still going to try but don't have much hope. Its not THAT big a deal. Working from home is ok.

Just as an FYI, holding for pick-up at a FedEx or UPS location will NOT let anyone get their package early, if that is the end goal. Especially in a situation like this where carriers are under strict orders to not deliver prior to 9/21.

There will be a couple that slip through and deliver Thursday - check for the early unboxing video on youtube. For the rest of us common folk, it's stalking our local Fedex and UPS drivers on Friday :)

But will we get it on Friday or will it be delayed in getting to a store or hub? I have mine shipping to my office now, but will change it to a store if it won’t change the delivery date.
Thanks for any insight.

Personally, I would suggest not making changes to the shipping address. Since labels have already been created, it is a good way to have packages be delayed by at least one day.

It should be there on Friday, I changed the delivery to the nearest UPS CC, which is from where they deliver it anyway. I just changed the delivery for both the phone and watch to 'pick up' and the delivery date is still Friday, September 21. I have done this in previous years and always picked it up on the delivery day without problems, you just need to bring a driver's license.

Its not. In my case, I live in the country and both Fed-Ex and UPS can sometimes get all screwed up. Its weird. Any normal package that I don't need to sign for comes through just fine. But if I need to sign for it, then I stay home from work, and at least 75% of the time, they don't show up.

After I hit the "BUY!!!" button, it occurred to me that I could send it to my office -- maybe. So I checked with the place I work and they are fine with it. So... that's why I'd like to change the address. I also just bought a watch and I'm sending it to the office as (probably) the first test run.

By the way -- this may help others -- the last two packages via Fed-Ex I went to the Fed-Ex site and you can add instructions. I pasted a link to a Google Map to my house. The package shows up with a printout of the map with my house circled. Sorta cute and funny I thought.

Was going to consider this as an option. The closest Apple store is a 4 minute walk, on Maddison Ave here in NYC. But the staff in our building are amazing. The concierge/front desk person and the doormen make sure we get our packages and they scan them and notify us via email - which is a nice touch. We have yet to have a package go missing.

Both my iPhone Xs and my Apple Watch 4 orders have been preparing to ship since early Saturday. Both headed to the southwest US.
