I bought an Xs Max on release day (a Friday). By Monday I too thought it was just too heavy, found an Apple Store with my desired config in an Xs and returned the Max.

It definitely was weight not size -- I also use a Pixel 2 XL as my Android phone (as a hobby I write some travel apps so I like to have one of each platform).

The Xs is also a bit heavier than I would prefer, but it is (for me) manageable.

The weight while
Not that much heavier than the previous iPhone is felt after your holding the iPhone for a long period of time. Like on an extended phone call or playing a game

It’s definitely heavier than my old 6s but I like it, and I only notice it negatively when watching things in bed holding it above my face but honestly I should be sleeping so that’s on me! Otherwise I thought it would be worse from all the reviews and being with the 6s platform since inception. Weight and quality seem to be on the same side of the spectrum imo.

So of course I have been watching all the videos on YouTube and reviews online and the general consensus was that the Xs Max was light. However, now that I picked mine up I actually feel like it’s heavier then I was expecting.

Anybody that got theirs feels like this?
Knoooot really, iPhone XS max weigh just fine. Still lighter than iPad Minis by much

I view the XS Max as a mini iPad. Fine to hold when you're sitting down. I've been using one for the past 2 weeks.

Is it something I'd want to carry around in my pocket? Not a chance.

The is the biggest con of the phone for me: the weight. My wrist gets tired pretty easily holding it (I'm a pretty strong guy too - I've regularly lifted weights for years). I also have a car mount for it in my car, but it refuses to stay on due to the weight of the phone.

People often complain about Apple's desire to make devices thin and light. While I do agree that I'd like a larger battery rather than a thinner device most of the time, situations like this are good examples of why making devices thinner can be a good thing. It (usually) translates into weight savings. I don't think I'd sacrifice battery on this device to make it lighter, but I am glad Apple didn't choose to make it any thicker or heavier.

I think lifting weights and holding a phone with your wrist are totally two different things. What you’re experiencing is fatigue in your wrist from holding the phone in a position for so long, it’s not that the phone is too heavy. Those are two different things.

pbone could be much lighter without the glass case which most people carry in a case anyway so it’s really non visable and without the wireless charging which is nothing to rave about and slow

I bought mine online. I did not go to Best Buy to feel it out or anything. I was certain I wanted the big phone with the big screen. I made the mistake of assuming it would be lightweight and didn’t bother checking how much it weighed. It is so heavy that I’m actually somewhat regretting not getting the smaller version. I’m on my phone a lot and it’s killing my wrists. I’m definitely suprised. I love the phone and the big screen but it definitely is heavier than I’d like.
