I purchased a Gold iPhone XS 64GB on November 2nd and didn't notice any lagging or stuttering issues at all. However, I noticed that my phone developed what looked like an air bubble of sorts above the ear pierce under the screen. I took it to Apple this past Friday, Nov. 9th and they replaced the screen for free and the bubble was gone. It was that night that I actually noticed the lagging and stuttering when scrolling.

I chatted with Support Specialist who said to do a factory restore and I can confirm that it did not fix the issue. I have done what others have suggested and tried the screen recording and I was able to replicate this issue as on my unit.

I originally though I was losing my mind and being too attentive to detail and I do have some neurological issues that can impact my vision and thought that maybe that was the cause. Off the cusp, I went ahead and did a random Google search and lone behold, others are reporting this issue too.

It's possible I didn't notice this the 7 days since first purchasing the unit from AT&T but did when the screen was replaced. Is it possible that the lagging or stuttering is related to the screen being replaced and I got a bad replacement?

I've looked through every comment on here but didn't see anything along the lines of my experience and was wondering if anyone had any further insight into this but I did report to Apple as well.

I doubt it. I didn’t notice it at first except occasionally. It’s an insidious issue. You start noticing more as you continue to use the phone, especially when reading and scrolling.

I'd have to wholeheartedly agree with this:

I'm not saying one couldn't notice this right of the bat, because I certainly believe that could be the case. But for me, especially jumping from an SE and being mesmerized by the sheer size increase + all other advancements, it took 2-3 days to notice the stuttering, if I recall correctly.

Is this the same issue as when I go back to an app like settings or safari, it's frozen for a few seconds and I can't do anything until it unfreezes? Started with iOS 12. Any app that I use swap and come back to is frozen for a few seconds. It seems random. It's annoying. I have to wait for it to unfreeze.

Doesn’t sound like the same issue I’m afraid, sorry. Hope you get it solved

I'm strongly considering returning my XS to a X because I don't hear of this herky jerky scroll stutter with that model. Or am I mistaken? Also, is this a wise choice to even exchange for a X or wait for a possible software fix?

Absolutely! What I've seen cannot be unseen and it's incredibly annoying to say the least.

I would say that sounds reasonable to me, but unfortunately, Apple doesn't sell the X anymore.

I thought that eventually I would stop noticing this issue, but it annoys me every bit as much now as when I bought the phone on pre-order. As much as it pains me to think this, I'm not sure Apple cares about this problem. It hasn't received any media attention at all, really, and all the official Apple channels seem to deny its existence. Not feeling terribly hopeful at the moment.

I bought my XS at AT&T and I’m still within my 14 days and many locations where I live still have these in stock so I’m pretty confident that this is what I will do. Save money and not have to deal with this annoying problem.

Hello Guys. Same issue here.
Old XS Max 256- the issue was always present(returned it due to power issues , sometimes the phone wasn't able to wake up)
New XS 256 - the issue is always present.
Waiting for update..

I think the problem is with the Power management controller made by Apple-Foxconn
https://wccftech.com/iphone-models-...chips-dialog-gets-fewer-orders/#disqus_thread
Applr is getting gready, they are not satisfied being 1 trillion dollar company, they want more. They want more from you, more from Qualcomm, more from Intel, more from imagination Technologies, more from Foxconn, more from everyone.
The best proof that Apple is scamming customers and their products are way overrated is the money they have. 1 trillion. I really dont understand why paying thousands for an iphone when there are sites like ifixit that tells you that total cost of an iphone is around 400. Now from 400 to 1300 is triple the price. I understand r&d, marketing, profit, but triple????

IF it is a problem with the power management controller, then it has nothing to do with the "brand" of it: as you can see in the teardown at iFixit, the XS and the XS Max use different power management chips:

The XS uses a chip from Dialog Systems (same vendor used in iPhone X and 8 series) while only the XS Max uses an Apple custom chip (first time ever).

Given the fact, that BOTH devices are experiencing that stuttering issue while using different PM chips, I really doubt that it is a hardware fault. It HAS to be firmware related.

However, I am really annoyed by the fact (as justinhill has said), that this issue is not mentioned ANYWHERE in the Apple-news-universe. Not even a single video about it on Youtube, nothing.
I cannot believe nobody at Apple is noticing that (like Jony Ives - he always seems to me to be such a perfectionist). Do they even USE their own products? I mean - it cannot be only us few, who are really annoyed by that stuttering!:mad:

Played with my colleague's max - didn't find any stutters.
How long do I need to wait? 15-30s?

Maybe we need everyone’s favorite Unbox Therapy to catch wind of this. It works for everything else...

Hey
Apple just released iOS 12.1.1 beta 3... who can check that’s stutter on beta 3?

Unfortunately, iOS 12.1.1 beta 3 doesn't fix our issue...
I love my XS, but this issue bothers me really... :(

Wow, at first I thought this was ridiculous and I honestly hadn’t even noticed it on my max, but it’s true! I would say if the screen is inactive for 15 seconds or more, when you go to close the app, it does indeed stutter. Quite annoying now that I see it

Closing apps doesn't bother me but scrolling pages in safari does.

BTW anyone tried to test new iPads for the same bug?

I'm not sure if I'm experiencing the same issue.
The game that I play lags on Xs Max 512GB. For instance, if I touch menu or change to other screen in game, it stutters. The same game runs perfectly smooth on my X. The game is fairly old, and it even runned perfectly fine on my 7 plus.

i hate my XS for that and want to return it. this is not a smooth experience

a small update on my case:

I changed my XS for XS Max. The stutter is still there , but its waaay less noticeable. My conclusion is that the Max is much better optimized. In my last days with XS i was really struggling with those lags and at some point it became unbearable.

Fingers crossed that the upcoming update will face this issue.

am I the only one who is really not bothered by this? I mean yeah it’s there but I’m not trying to always look for it or care to look for it.
