You need a custom firmware that has the iPad baseband 6.15.00 to restore your iPhone.

iPhone

Which one are you seeing I meant to say?

If you're seeing the Apple logo > run Redsn0w in tethered mode.

If you're seeing the iTunes logo/USB icon > You have to use a custom 4.2.1/6.15.00 ipsw to restore > then re-jailbreak.

My iphone 4 gets the usb to itunes, I had it jailbroken on 4.2 useing redsnow i did not like because it was thetherd so i restored it and now it only get about 2/3 of the way can you please help

Which iOS are you restoring it back to? Are you getting an iPhone error?

Hey, this looks like a good thread. So, I've got an iPhone 3G which I'd been running on jailbroken 4.0, waiting it out until it felt safe to upgrade to 4.2.x. Then, a couple days ago, I read the most recent Dev-Team blog post, and figured I may as well give it a shot.

I used PwnageTool, the latest iPhone 3G update and the iPad .ipsw linked on the blog to make a custom updater with the 06.15 baseband, then used iTunes to install it like always. Well, no, not like always — it didn't work. iTunes started giving me errors, and the iPhone only ever boots up into the "connect to iTunes" screen anymore. I've tried various combinations of options on both PwnageTool and redsn0w; nothing has worked.

Most recently, I tried Lapatskiy's instructions (substituting the appropriate firmwares, of course), and naturally iTunes gave me error 1015, but when I took the step of booting the iPhone tethered via redsn0w, I got something I hadn't seen before: the "pwnapple" logo dimmed slightly after a few seconds (not the backlight, but the screen image itself), and it remained frozen there until I forced it to power off.

At this point, I've restored the device — or at least tried to — a whole bunch of times, and it's safe to assume that the baseband is at 06.15 by now. Hopefully the rest of the phone isn't a garbled mess from all the crap I've put it through. Any suggestions? Further information needed?

(By the way, I just installed TinyUmbrella and it seems neat, but I didn't know about it back when I could've saved an SHSH blob from my working iOS install. I guess I'll keep it around in case it's needed for...anything else...? I'm a little hazy on the ins and outs of SHSH blobs.)

Iphone 3GS (Help)

Hi everybody:) I bought a secondhand iphone 3gs a few days back and it came jailbreakon with I believe Limera. I wasn't entirely sure what that was at the time and I restored the iphone(erasing all data and settings). This led it to become sadly stuck on the apple logo. I then put it into DFU mode and restored it but this gave it IOS 4.2.1 and it is now stuck in Recovery Mode.

I am not technically skilled with these things and all I want is just to get a working iPhone. I don"t care at all about jailbreaking it. Is there any fix for my situationt as I really don't want to throw this phone away. Thanks for the help.

Put your iPhone back in DFU mode and restore with the custom ipsw. If you get an error 1015 0r 1604 use TinyUmbrella to kick your iPhone out of recovery mode.

Download an official 4.2.1 ipsw and use it with redsn0w to jailbreak. Follow the steps and jailbreak with redsn0w. After that, boot up redsn0w again and run your iPhone in tethered mode.

Use TinyUmbrella to kick your iPhone out of recovery.

Got error 1015. When I kicked it out of recovery mode, it rebooted, then rebooted again and fell back into recovery mode. I went ahead through the rest anyway, just in case that was what was supposed to happen.

Download an official 4.2.1 ipsw and use it with redsn0w to jailbreak. Follow the steps and jailbreak with redsn0w. After that, boot up redsn0w again and run your iPhone in tethered mode.

Followed these directions, with the main difference from previous attempts being that this time I didn't check the "iPad baseband" box in redsn0w. (The custom IPSW I used to restore it through iTunes included the iPad baseband.) The jailbreak progress screen got most of the way through — I think it said something along the lines of "installing packages" — when the white spinner animation was overlaid on the screen, and it stayed that way for a fairly long time before rebooting...and going back into recovery mode. Hadn't seen that happen before, but I'd say it still falls under the "didn't work" category. Anything else I can try, or might there be smaller details I'm unknowingly getting wrong?

redsn0w

when i go to download the redsn0w on my iphone 3gs 4.2.1 it keeps getting stuck half way and it says waiting for reboot and thats as far as it goes. can someone help what can i do. or where am i going wrong. thanks

I'd like to come back and mention that I came across this video a couple of days ago, and my iPhone has been miraculously restored to life. Not sure exactly what the difference was — perhaps the firmware the guy prepared to accompany the vid — but I'm now running on 4.2.1, and it's actually the smoothest I've seen this device run since I first got it. (No longer having multitasking or wallpaper enabled probably doesn't hurt either, but still.) Thanks for your help all the same, PsstGreek!

What iOS are you trying to restore to? You're getting error 3194 because you're restoring to a firmware that Apple isn't signing on their servers.

You need the SHSH saved for the firmware to restore.

It can be jailbroken but it's tethered.

You can only downgrade if you have the SHSH saved.

hey guys just wanted to share my story. I recently jailbroke my iphone 4 running 4.2.1 and decided I would rather wait for the untethered version. Upon first trying to do a restore in itunes to unjailbreak, I got the error message 1013. After searching the web for some answers, I found the terminal trick but that did not work for me. I did, however find something that worked perfectly. In tiny umbrella,TU, go to the advanced tab and uncheck the box that says "set hosts to cydia on exit". Then I closed TU and relaunched Itunes and clicked the restore button again and it worked like a charm. Thats just my two cents. Hope it helps some folks here! Love this site!
