Apple and other electronics manufacturers have received a break from Trump's reciprocal tariffs, with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency sharing a long list of products excluded from the levies last night.

iPhones, Macs, iPads, Apple Watch, and other Apple devices will not be subject to the 125 percent tariffs that have been put in place on imported Chinese goods, nor will Apple have to pay the 10 percent reciprocal tariffs that are in place for goods from other countries.

All manner of electronic devices have been exempted, including computer components such as GPUs from Nvidia, semiconductors and the equipment used to make them, SSDs, displays, many TVs, and more. The AirPods and the HomePod do not appear to have been exempted, and video game consoles like the Nintendo Switch 2 are still subject to the tariffs.

As Bloomberg points out, the exemptions could be temporary and the Trump administration could be planning for new, lower tariffs on electronics and other goods from China. The order also does not exempt companies from the 20 percent "fentanyl" fee imposed on China, which was an earlier penalty, so there is still a fee that Apple will need to pay.

With the back and forth over tariffs and the 90-day pause Trump put in place in some countries, Apple stock has been volatile for the last week and has dropped more than 20 percent before recovering somewhat. As of market close yesterday, Apple's stock was down 11 percent from early April.

Can't Tariff Apple!

It's a USA company pledging $500 Billion for some big construction and development in USA - probably a big Cloud thing using Apple (TSM) Silicon.

You are assuming that trump / bannon / the heritage foundation / the billionaire bros / the gop congress / and the trumpanzees haven’t figured out a way to “rig” the constitution!
Why do you think I went beyond 4 years? Even if they rig it so the felon gets a lifetime gig like his pal Putin, it won't likely go beyond 8 years. Due to bad diet, chemicals in hairspray and fake tan, dementia or an angry former supporter who lost his savings in the market shenanigans, he will succumb.

insane/no plan was last 4 years
To give just one of dozens of examples of life with Trump, when he announced the 90 day pause, his number one top trade adviser heard of the plan to pause from the news. Decisions happen on the fly with little consulting of even his own trusted people. So no surprise they later have to get changed/reversed.

Don’t worry, he will reverse his decision by next week after waking up from a nap. Lol.

A Nap?

I bet you are taking more naps than president Trump.

He is Working just about every day - it's hard just to keep up with all the Whitehouse briefings and cabinet Youtube stuff. If you watch all of it you will have to be impressed. He is working hard! I mean he is also approaching ancient age!

It looks like the new Apple TV would not be exempt. I wonder if Apple will delay the planned release until the tariff situation with China is resolved.
It might be. Other articles are saying the official guidance has other categories in it. But I'm not going to go try to match up those numbers to find out what those categories mean. Especially when he may say something completely different tomorrow.

Such insight. This kind of biased opinion polarizes people.

Where is the Switch 2 made, and how does this affect it?
It’s made in China, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Some reports say that Nintendo is doing 50% of the Switch 2 production in the latter two. Game consoles don’t fall under the present exemption, because they are in the general “toys” category.

Switch 2 is manufactured mostly in Vietnam so it probably doesn’t apply to these tariffs. Expect the PS5 Pro to be $1000 soon though.

This likely wouldn't have happened if Tim Apple didn't spend a million of his own on (sort of legally) bribing the US president. I guess Apple (and other companies) own him big time. Guess he'll get a big bonus at the end of the year. If Cook ever retires, he'll get some sort of Apple Fellow title to work on politics.

The $1M donation finally paid off. 🤑
I'm thinking that was just a downpayment. Tim's simply been doing his job for the shareholders. He's certainly not the artistic visionary everyone wants him to be, but he's pretty street smart about biz and egos, and probably visualized all this among other possible or future scenarios.

I hate that Tim Apple goes out of his way to bend the knee to Trump and it makes me hate my Apple products.
Careful, some folks here will say that you should be grateful and you should bend a knee or two to Tim for giving you the opportunity to purchase Apple products.

So it’s only a big show? 😂

You JUST figured that out, eh? No one in the media or the general public has seemed to figure it out yet. People freak out when Trump makes some giant move only to see it pulled back later.

And this is the classic Trump playbook. It has been for years. Much the same way Russian military doctrine functions. Escalate to de escalate.

Ramp up tariffs and restrictions knowing you will pull them back later. It’s a show of force and it makes the “enemy” believe you’re unstable and will do anything. It’s Trump playbook 101.

Not the equate the two, but Reagan did it with the Soviets. He had them convinced he was nutty as squirrel turds and they bought it.

The question is, why do people keep buying it? The pullback almost always comes and Trump always seems to gain ground with it. The press helps him a lot too. Trump is like catnip to them. Good or bad.

Sooner or later people have to become wise to it and go “meh” when Trump says he’s invading Greenland or running for a 3rd term. 🙄
