Dumb question:

Can this iPhoto somehow access iPhoto on your mac over WiFi or anything?

You know even after so many years, even after the widescale launch of iCloud, Apple has still not understood how to communicate b/w apps in real time. There's no way you can store the content of a more than 3-4 big albums on an iPad. You're going to run out of memory. There's got to be a way to just see, as in peek the contents of the app when connected on the same network. OK. Sorry for the rant. More like iTunes sharing. :wtf:

I agree...this seems like such an obvious thing to want to implement :O

Can you access your Mac iPhoto library? If not, what is the preferred way of getting photos into it? Photo Stream?

Also, how does Beam work? (And really what is it?)
I can't access my Mac iPhoto library to my knowledge, however share options include the following: Journal, Camera Roll, iTunes, Print, Beam, Email, Twitter, Flickr, Facebook, Slideshow. Not sure what most of them do :p

Beam sends photos to other iOS devices with iPhoto.

So is it confirmed that iPhoto isn't supported on iPad 1?

If true, then that is crap.

When will Apple port Xcode?

If they did that, then I would have to reconsider the use of my MacBook Pro (not my iMac though!). I've thought about it too and have decided that it would be nearly impossible to use Xcode if ported. iOS's file system is hidden. If you want to import files for use in your project, how would you do so? Additionally, I know that some things (I think the creation of sqlite databases) require access to the command line.

What a great thing though if this ever happened!

Help not available for iPhoto

The help within the app is not available! It tells me to connect to the Internet and try again. I am already connected to the Internet though!
Anyone else getting this?
Also trying to access App Support from the iPhoto page on the app store I get taken to the apple site only to be told Hmm, the page you’re looking for can’t be found

Thanks! Seems odd you can't Beam between the Mac iPhoto too. Maybe they are waiting for the next iLife for Mac?

What about Aperture 3 users?

What I'm still not clear on with iPhoto is if there is any cross functionality with Aperture 3 libraries. I currently do all of my photo organizing and editing with Aperture 3 on my Macbook Pro with all of the master versions stored there and backups on a hard drive, and while I would most likely still use that as my primary workspace, I'm wondering is there anything I could take advantage of with iPhoto on a new iPad that would make it worthwhile to get one? I know what I'm asking is not really specific, but I'm just trying to decide if there is something in this that would appeal to the Prosumer photographers....

Just a heads up, apparently you can't run iPhoto on the iPad 1:

"Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 Wi-Fi, and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G.Requires iOS 5.1 or later."

Didn't want someone to buy it over the desktop iTunes and then find out after the fact.

This is bloody annoying. If you try to install it on an iPad 1st Gen it produces a pop-up stating that you need a front facing camera - Why /

Are we expected to believe that all the photos used in the Apple demo were taken on an iPad ? No, of course not - they were up loaded onto the iPad the same as the 1000's on mine, - so why can't I have use of the app ?

Thank you for mentioning it. You just saved me wasting some money.

I'd say the "front facing camera" requirement is Apple-speak for "the iPad 1 is far too crippled in the RAM department for you to even think about running this app. But lol, as if we're just going to come right out and say that".

I keep trying to purchase iPhoto, and update other apps, like iMovie and it keeps saying that the Apple Terms and Conditions have changed. I go to accept them, and it gets stuck. Each time. Ugh...

Reboot and try again. Or, it could be that millions of people are trying to purchase the same thing at the same time and the servers ar a bit overloaded like they get after every Apple release.

They really have to do something about these stupid bottlenecks built into the whole process. I'm sure the streaming servers can handle quite a load but obviously the 'agreeing to terms and conditions' server is taking a beating.

It used to be like this when updating iOS ("checking download with Apple") - but the iOS 5.1 update was silky smooth this time 'round.

Good to see they're at 300+ million users. Now update the infrastructure to handle the load.

I'm actually suspecting Apple of doing this on purpose. It's the digital equivalent of lines at the stores.

Nonsense.
You can't scale for 1-2x/year events. Its sitting idle for other 363 days of the year.
Deal with it.

Well here is an issue with the iPhoto app... MAPS!!!!

There is a setting that shows where a photo was taken, and it then places it on a map BUT NOT GOOGLE MAPS! I wonder if this is the first break away and a sign of what is coming in iOS 6? The problem is the map STINKS, very low detail and my entire subdivision which was built 7 years ago is not mapped at all, they show my house address and marker in the right place but there are no streets on the map, showing a 10 year old version of the streets. Wow. I hope this isn't what is about to replace maps in iOS, not even close to the Google Maps product. Here in the iPhoto app it doesn't really matter, but this better not go system wide.

If true, then that is crap.

So after all the whining about how iPad is not a 'real computer' because it requires a mother ship, now they're evil because they write software specifically for a self-contained device... with camera.
No-win situation.

Love it ! Works great on the iPhone 4s. Too bad it's not for iPad 1, but I can understand why not...almost...Can't wait to try something like this out on an iPad though!

Shame when it says "is a universal app" it doesn't include the mac versions. Feel a bit cheated in a way especially seen as these are free on all Macs, why not iOS too?

Well they aren't really free. They come with your Mac but you still have to pay for new versions of it.

Like someone said a little bit ago, it would have been nice if this replaced the Photos app
