Wondering how iPhoto for iPad will compare to the new Photoshop Touch. I'm sure there will be far more editing options in Photoshop (it's $99 vs. $5 for iPhoto) but for basic work will iPhoto put a halt to the benefits of Photoshop Touch?

--Edit--
My bad not sure where I got $99 from. So the comparison is far more reasonable then with iPhoto at $5 and Photoshop Touch at $10. Am I correct that Photoshop Touch has far more functionality for Photo edits?

My only problem with this is, if the iPad is being positioned as an eventual pc replacement, why are they charging for iPhoto? One of the macs greatest assets was that all the software you wanted was almost all built in. I know it's only five bucks but still... I always loved I could recommend a Mac to someone and it had everything that - software wise - the average user needed. I hope the iPad stays the same as it unseats the mac as second (and maybe first) computers in households.

Jam Session in GarageBand is hours of fun.

My buddy and I just sat and played for a good hour, messing around.

Serious fun!

Was super excited to install iPhoto onto my iPhone 4S. Waited the hour or so for it to appear on the app store and I happily installed - biggest disappointment ever. Can't figure out how to make my own albums, events need to be synced from iPhoto, and the customization options on the iPhone UI is just.... god awful. This is probably the most unimpressive and underwhelming piece of Apple software I've ever used. Huge disappointment after excited I was throughout the keynote.

AirPics

I too think this would be awesome.
A great way to rate/tag/edit photos while on the sofa and away from the iMac.
and have these photos reside/amended on the Main Library.

If you want to save locally on the iPad you can do that too.

You can do that with AirPics, but albums are read-only. The dev is supposed to be working on changes, etc.

Aperture and Final Cut App in iPad 3 ???

the new iPhoto App is Awesome!!!

but, I would most definitely like to see an Aperture and Final Cut App later this year on the new iPad 3

with the 2048 x 1536 Hi Res Retina Dispay and the A5X Quad Core Graphics, it should be able to handle it!!!

From reading the comments here, I’m going to save myself the hassle and wait for some reviews and updates. I was really happy to hear and see iPhoto on iOS, but without a way to keep everything in sync between devices and my mac, there’s no real point, as it just creates more hassles for me when I try to get things in sync.

wouoldve been nice if iphoto replaced the stock photos app

Not everyone needs or wants this much. They just want to see thir photos

because they are only positioning it that way or the general consumer, one may have zero interest in said level. The built in photo library may be enough for them

What? Adobe Photoshop Touch is $10.

I just can't understand why a company like Apple, doens't let iPhoto on the ipad sync with the libraby on the mac. Or do i have to put my library on icloud? And why no SD card, how can i transfer my new photos made with my Canon easily to the ipad?

Not so pro

Really like to edit photos by touching them. Great piece of software. But for me the GUI feels childish and features like syncing or searching will be missed for a pro workflow.
Does Apple leave that to 3rd party developers? Hope to see Aperture for iPad, iTunes for iPad on this screen.

Has anyone tried installing iPhoto on iOS 5.0.1? I know u need minimum 5.1 but just wanna know whether anyone has given it a shot??

I don't wanna lose my jailbreak on 5.0.1.. Still wanna try iPhoto.. This is very smart on apples side.. :p

iPhoto app freezing ??

Does the app freeze for anyone else when you tap the "?" button. Seems to happen wherever I am in iPhoto.

So after all the whining about how iPad is not a 'real computer' because it requires a mother ship, now they're evil because they write software specifically for a self-contained device... with camera.
No-win situation.
Sadly, not a No-Whine Situation!
:D

Hi.
I have a big, messy iPhoto library. I am slowly sorting through it, but it will take awhile. Rather than working at it on my Mac, I'd love it if I could just pull out my iPad during a commercial break, tag a few pics and slowly chip away at my library.

Is this possible? I have been waiting for this announcement since the iPad 1, so I am really looking forward to it.
Exactly the scenario I want to do! I have an iPad 2 and an iMac. I've bought iPhoto for iPad but won't be able to test until the weekend.

Can anyone confirm? Otherwise iPhoto for iPad is not much use to me, it's then only for on the go editing, which I don't do.

I get the message "connect to the Internet" - I am connected!?!

Did anyone else notice that iMovie can now be downloaded on the original iPad? It doesn't support the trailers feature and is a big buggy (making a photo slideshow rendered images low-resolution for some reason), but it installed on my device and runs.

With the 1080p video capability, does anyone know if the iOS iPhoto (or the new iPad for that matter) supports AVCHD files? I'm really hoping that they bring this to all versions soon, including Mac, as its a PIA to import and convert to a .mov

Just a heads up, apparently you can't run iPhoto on the iPad 1:

"Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 Wi-Fi, and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G.Requires iOS 5.1 or later."

Didn't want someone to buy it over the desktop iTunes and then find out after the fact.

Yeah, I bought it without seeing that. That's ridiculous, it says it won't work on iPad 1 because it doesn't have a camera - so what!? Why can't it at least let me edit photos? I guess we'll just use it on our iphones.

It's just apple dicking around with its customers again. when iPad 2 came out the iMovie app didn't work on Gen 1 i Pads and now that it has been upgraded the iMovie basic app now loads on Gen 1 iPads - they just can't do trailers etc.

If a Gen 1 iPad can run movie editing it can sure do photo editing. This is just 'encouragement to upgrade' for 1st gen iPad users - not hardware reqmts based restrictions. It sort of sucks.:(

(You would have though the iPad was successful enough and Apple rich enough to not inflict these crappy restrictions on early adopters.)

Shame when it says "is a universal app" it doesn't include the mac versions. Feel a bit cheated in a way especially seen as these are free on all Macs, why not iOS too?

I was just gonna ask about this. My Air was an open box and I needed to purchase it and then BB refunded me for it. Was wondering since if I purchsed for MAC it would just allow me to add to my iphone without paying for the mobile app.

Wishful thinking I suppose?. . . . .

This is bloody annoying. If you try to install it on an iPad 1st Gen it produces a pop-up stating that you need a front facing camera - Why /

Are we expected to believe that all the photos used in the Apple demo were taken on an iPad ? No, of course not - they were up loaded onto the iPad the same as the 1000's on mine, - so why can't I have use of the app ?

I think it has to do with the A4 having to power iPhoto for the iPad...

Why do iLife apps (namely iPhoto and Garageband) cost money now? One of the things that used to separate Apple from their competitors was how they bundled great software (for free) straight out-of-the-box.

I don't know but I do know that if for the new Macs they try charging me $5 for Mac Apps previously included in iLife I'm going to kill someone.

Apple has always charged money for iLife, but included it for free when you bought a Mac. They still do. If you have a Mac without iLife or you wanted the newest version, you need to buy it. $19.99 a piece for the Mac on the Mac App Store.

For iOS, they charge $4.99... A nice price in my opinion, although I've read some negative reports with the iPhone interface so far...

Don't think that'll ever happen. iPhoto is paid software for the Mac and so will it be for the iPad. Just my 2 cents...

So is it confirmed that iPhoto isn't supported on iPad 1? If true, then that is crap.

Darn, and it won't run on my Apple Newton either! Apple is as bad as Samsung. My new 3D blue-Ray Samsung player won't show 3D on my 2 year old Samsung flatscreen. They're all out to screw us! ;)
