I wonder how many of these would actually sell if it wasn't tied to apple and the magnificent iPod.....

The most important tie is to iTunes. Otherwise this would be a crap player. Instead, Apple was able to leverage iTunes to create a large capacity player for a great price.

I ordered my 1gb shuffle last wednesday, but it's still waiting to be shipped on or before the 26th.

Going back to the lanyard thing coming off, wouldn't it be fairly easy for someone to just walk past you and yank it off? Especially when you're on the tube or something.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick? Does the lanyard attach to the shuffle instead of the cap?

Dave

if your worried about thieves just get the sport lanyard. that would be a bit harder to rip off of someone.

you guys need to chill about ripping apart the pod. anything you can find to rip on no matter how insignificant. what about women? their brave enough to carry a purse with a strap over their shoulder, cant you sport enough confidence to give a thief the impression that your not an easy target?

hehe..ok ok enough but still...

Shuffles are in at the store!

Just picked up my iPod Shuffle at the Apple store on Michigan Ave. They haven't set up any for display yet and seemed like they had about 40 of them behind the counter. Great complement to my iPod...

512 or gig?

Apple Store Gum

Ipod Shuffle.. picked a 512 up on Friday. I couldn't help but think... it's the apple store "gum"!

Everything else in the store is quite spendy (Not including accessories/sw)
but you add the shuffle to your order at the counter just like gum at the
grocery store... :) :p

BTW the shuffle ROCKS.

Another example of Apple's clever marketing strategy - $99 is just about at the right point for an impulse buy at the till.

With the 512MB iPod Shuffle, which can be used for music AND storage, costing $99, why are stores and Mac catalog sites still selling flash USB storage for more than that price? Macmall sells a 512MB USB device for $136, Maczone another model for $150, etc.

iPod shuffle Pro

I love the new iPod shuffle ... ordered the 1GB model.
For those of you who are not happy with it ... please don't buy it, or maybe wait for the next version: :) :) :)

That was how I thought this generation would look. Oh well, I ordered one regardless of the display - it'll be a great replacement for my 20-song limit, skip-prone discman for school and a great compliment to my 3G 10GB.

More interesting is a clever navigation method for finding that one specific song discussed here. It's also nice to know that if you push the next button ten times, your song won't be interrupted until you let go and it'll jump ten songs ahead all at once.

Nice design. Looks like it would be hard for Apple to get to the $99 price point with that design. You could drop the menu button. And go with the click wheel in place of the 4-button arrangement.

Yah. I'll bet you'll see alot of iPod owners buy the shuffle, because they already know iPod so well. It makes a great second ipod.

Part of the reason that the $99/$149 price point is even possible is the absence of any sort of display. If you added that on, the unit price would probably jump about $25-$50... and the unit SIZE would increase considerably, and the battery duration would drop.

And then Apple would have to drop the shuffle name. Apple should release an iPod mini with 1GB-2GB flash memory for $199 or $249.

Formatted Capacities

Hey can anyone tell me what the formatted capacity is of their shuffle? Going on the Apple calculations a 512 mb would format to 456 mb! Is that right?

And for those who's Apple orders have arrived are you all from the US and when did you order yours?

Ordered mine last Tuesday, just got it this morning...

btw... it's the 512... and it had about 492MB free for use out of the box...

It's probably been mentioned here already, but it seems to me that Apple has (intentionally or not) gone after the usb thumb drive market here. Yes, this will be a great 2nd ipod for many people, whether for exercise, or to just keep the "good" ipod home. But even more so, I think they are going to sell a TON of these to people who need a thumb drive. I'm near the point where I'll need to get a 1gb drive for work use, and guess what, it'll probably be an ipod shuffle. With 512mb drives generally at $60-$80, and 1gb drives at $100-$140, why wouldn't you?
