When the first Macs were introduced, the first thing I though was that if Fisher-Price made computers, that's exactly how they would look and act. I also thought that the first iBook would have been the perfect purse for this character.hkriffraff said:It looks more Fisher Price than Apple.

The whole point of the promotion is to help get rid of excess 3G iPods.
I'm definitly not mad, but there is a level of dissapointment when I could have waited less than 1 week and gotten an updated ipod with 5 more gigs for the same price :-/jeffbax said:I don't see how people who did Cram and Jam could be mad, you are getting a 200$ rebate!

What the f*** are you talking about? Please people, have a good cup of coffee before ranting. It's simple: you get MORE for your money now. You can look at it in terms of capacities or price points but either way you're getting a better deal.evansls said:yes, the 20gb is $399 (for the next few days at least), but people who purchase a 20gb want the MIDDLE line for a decent price.
so, if they buy the brand new 20gb for $300, they actually should be purchasing the 40gb for $400! that's NOT a savings... it's a marketing ploy and a good one at that...
Dude, if you don't want to pay more than $200 for a music player, that's your beef. But there is a HUGE segment of the market that is willing. Did you not read the Q3 conference report? The demand for the $249 minis is "staggering." They don't think they're going to catch up with the demand until the end of the year (which seems unlikely considering that the X-mas quarter is the strongest). Again, it's simple economics: they can't meet demand at the existing price points. Demand outstrips supply. Economics 101 tells us that in such scenarios the price should go up (which has happened to a degree if you look at eBay prices for the minis).brywalker said:I think the whole point is that there is still no $199 iPod which would enable Apple to absolutely OWN the market with somewhere near a 99% market share.
The mini should stay the same price. You pay for the form factor.
There should be more standard iPods though.
10GB - $199
20GB - $299
40GB - $399
60GB - $499
This isn't a capacity war. The people that already HAVE iPods are more likely to get the larger capacity ones. A 10GB at $199 would rule the world.
This is coming from someone who has a 80GB library of music and doesn't want to pay more than $200 for a player. I would "sacrifice" not having all of my music with me to save $100. And there are many more like me.
New iPods have sort of been expected around now I thought.joejg said:I'm definitly not mad, but there is a level of dissapointment when I could have waited less than 1 week and gotten an updated ipod with 5 more gigs for the same price :-/
Sorry, I'll never again invoke the memory of the little wooden dog in vaingriz said:Don't mock Fisher Price, they are an extremely well know brand with extensive history. I'm quite certain the iPod will help to propel Apple to similar brand recognition.

Duff-Man says...As with every other Apple promotion I believe this one states that they can discontinue the promotion at any time (I am not saying that they will...but they can)....oh yeah!C-Mezak said:If the new ipods are somehow excluded from the Cram and Jam, that would be fine (though Im not sure how theyll do it without changing the terms of the promotion. can they do that?)
jeffbax said:....And I love the click wheel... I always hated the touch sensitive buttons... I prefer feedback from my actions and always thought touch sensitive was very awkward.
mhouse said:....But the 4G iPod is practically identical to the 3G. The wheel is a different color and they removed the buttons. If you walked past it quickly you probably wouldn't even realize it wasn't a 3G.
Did you hate the design of the 3G also?
Peyote said:This doesn't really have anything to do with the next genereation of iPods...but I think a great little progression would be to use a ring of LED's around the scroll wheel. If you wake up the iPod, an LED under each of the for clicking areas could light up, then as you touched them they could momentarily glow brighter, or as you scroll, and LED lights up under your finger as you move it around the wheel...alsmost as if the wheel lights up wherever you touch it and a glow follows your finger...I don't know...just thinking out loud.
vpalvarez said:if the impoved battery life is due to conservation and not a bigger battery then this means that a firmware update could bring the 3G battery life to the same levels, think about it.
smegdude said:i don't know about anyone else but i'm gonna be at the palo alto apple store when it opens tomorrow, i just hope they have some in stock! Anyone else gonna be there?
Duff-Man says....no, as I said in other threads, I believe these new pods will be available immediately. Maybe not tomorrow in the stores but not a month either....I'd guess available online tomorrow when they do the announcement and in the stores within a few days. It is not like the mini - these new pods (as far as I know) will be using the same drives as the last iPods and there is no supply problem with those drives. Also, with the huge national exposure that Newsweek gives this launch, Apple would not want to have no pods available.....oh yeah!Bendit said:Uhh the product isn't even announced yet. This is a leak. No one will be selling it. Even after they announce it I wouldn't be surprised if a month went by without anyone seeing them.
