Don was one of the people who spent hours trying to get MobileMe to work. I imagine he's finally had enough of this BS.

He's right. If you think this is in any way excusable, I would like to have some of what you are smoking. This whole rollout has been incompetent. MobileMe didn't work, and then when it did it borked my calendars. Then the morons put up an app store, but didn't put up the software update you needed to run the apps. Then they say they put it out right at the point of highest worldwide demand (instead of rolling it out one international store at a time along with the 3G release) and you still can't get it unless you engage in software piracy. Added to that, the company has released virtually no information apart from (it's taking us longer than we thought). It's a complete fiasco.

There is no excuse for this. People put aside time to upgrade their machines and then it doesn't work. Sorry, not good enough. In no other business where a company had months to plan a rollout would this be even remotely acceptable, and it is the same here.

Don't make excuses for Apple. They deserve a kick in the pants for wasting people's time and bandwidth because they simply couldn't organize the rollout properly.

Thank You!

Don

Thank Buddha,
my iPhone finally talked to the iTunes server :D now restoring data ...

Apple and SJ can go to hell!!!!!!! Just because I don't run out to get the ***** iPhone I get treated like a second class citizen. I am so pissed right now!!! I should go buy a Zune just to spite Apple. Anyone know if Apple stock has fallen? And if it has Apple deserves it. I'm pissed, can't you tell.

Don

Sorry, but...

LOL!!!!! Dude, what the hell? Seriously, you sound like you're gonna have a heart attack. Stop being so petty. So things didn't go your way, you're going to damn Apple to hell? You're using their products, you like them, you'll be back to normal soon enough.

Sorry, but you're sounding like a kid who isn't allowed a toy he wants.

Is anyone else getting exactly 18 KB/s? BECAUSE, that's how friggin slow it is for me.

BTW my connection is 3Mbps. not dialup from the early 90's.

yup exact same speed i'm getting, I have about 88% now though

I can see the update but when i click on it to learn more, it's about to bring me to the itunes store, but it fails... It says the " the itunes store is temporarily unavailable" :(

Could you keep me updated and tell me when i could finally pdate my ipod touch

Join the club!

UK Touch user here. Downloaded the previously mentioned link and installed it onto my 16gb Touch. Still waiting for all my music top copy over but it appears to be working fine (Software version 2.0 shown in the iPod details screen.)

Only problem so far is that, when installing the Apps that I'd already downloaded from the store, it seemed to have a problem with the BA Flights app. Said it couldn't install that one. Anyone else?

TT.

Just a guess, but I'd think that iTunes would tell you you're already up to date on 2.0. You'd probably have to downgrade to 1.1.4 and then purchase 2.0 through the link.

Any ideas on how to do it. I downloaded the 1.1.4 Firmware tried to restore to that file and it gave me errors, then it told me to restore my iPod to the firmware that it downloaded by itself from iTunes.

My god, what's with you people? Why is it soo important to have the update first thing in the morning?

Go to work or read a book. By the end of the day you can come back and download the update fast and you are good to go. Really, IT IS that simple.

No, it's not that simple. I'm going to my girlfriend's for the weekend straight after work, so if I don't download it now I won't get to for a few days. (And I'm looking forward to remote-controlling her iTunes with my iPod.)

I'm getting 64Kb/s (8KB/s) downloading the ipsw manually over EVDO. Unfortunately, I have to leave the house in 10mins. So I will simply have to wait...

I'm sick of this!!!

You're actually tormenting yourself. Go do something else, it'll be fine later. I mean, it's as if you're dipping your toe into hot, steaming lava, complaining how hot it is, and then doing it again.

I could not disagree with you more.

The smart people will wait at least a week until upgrading iTouch or the original iPhone. The really smart people will wait at least a month before buying a new iPhone.

Those of us who wish to be on the cutting edge should expect to get cut.

Roll-outs never work as planned. Rolling out early just changes the dates. We would have been yelling last week.

You know the marketing saying, the innovator is the person with the knife in his back.

Been there with RCA Selectovision, DVD-Audio, HD-DVD, etc.

The smart ones wait.

Us innovators get the problems.

Don't be a drama queen. No one's getting fired. This is just what happens when millions of people hit the server at once. No reasonably affordable contingency plan can help with that.

I am not a drama queen. I just said that for humour.

Edit: And I am a guy, not a girl. Why did you call me a queen?

Ok, I lied about going to get a Zune. But seriously these past few days of Apple releases have been major flops. The head editor of Cnet was just on Fox News saying that AT&T is blaming Apple for the iPhone activation servers crashing and Apple is blaming AT&, and that if it's anything like the Mobile Me launch people shouldn't even bother to go and get an iPhone for the next 24-48 hours. I mean come on. People are paying $200-$300 for a phone and can't even use it. All I'm saying is that Apple hasn't been realistic about its release plans, and then they don't even admit that they screwed up and it just pisses me off.

Don

Now we are talking in a civilized and rational way here, in your last post it seemed you were just exaggerating (I mean, a Zune!!).;)

I agree, people expect things to work they way they should. But I just don't see any reason to act like the world is coming apart, and saying Apple is s**t because they couldn't make this work in the first hours of launch. And I'm not saying this because I want to defend Apple, I would also say this if it was Microsoft or Dell, or you name it.

Installed 2.0, it takes a while to "Prepare" the ipod (it's completely wiping out the data, all of it, more than any other update)

After 10-15 minutes it rebooted, iTunes popped up a scary error saying it couldn't recognize my iPod, iPod just had the "plug into itunes" screen. Unplugged and re-plugged in the iPod, showed up great!

Apps work great, Remote is flawless. YouTube is broken, but I still think that's a iTunes Activation server issue.

I downloaded the link earlier in the thread and then upgraded to 2.0 with that.

Couple things:

YouTube isn't working for me, just like the others. Says Youtube has to be enabled in iTunes but nothing more than that.

Not sure about this but looks like drag and drop for apps doesn't work. didn't for me so I had to have them synced. Not a big deal but whatever. There were options to chose which ones you wanted synced so I guess its a roundabout way of the same thing.

Remote app is awesome.

Pandora app is awesome.

Save Benjis app looks pretty cool. Definitely get some use out of that.

Scratch app is kinda cool. Doesn't look like you can pick music from the app so you have to start the music from the the regular music player and then go out and switch into scratch.

Google app looks like it might be pretty helpful.

vSnax looks like it might have a lot of potential if they get more programming on it.

Those are the only ones I've tried so far. Hopefully youtube gets figured out but other than that, pretty nice upgrade.

Don't know about the whole payment thing......seems like everything but youtube is working and I haven't been prompted to pay anywhere. Maybe that will come later.
