iPod Touch 2.0 Firmware Update (Almost) Live

Not to burst anyones bubble but I just read that 5A347 is actually a debugging version and that 5A345 is the actual release version..can anyone confirm this or deny it? Supposedly 5A347 is slower than 5A345..and I definitely notice delays in common tasks such as skipping songs in the now playing has a 1-2 second delay between songs...enough to irritate me.

I agree, it was only two years ago I bought my first IPod for my kids. Christmas morning, trying to activate took hours as well (forget whether it was the gift cards or what, but the server was busy most of the day)

I'm 63% into my download of the sneaky link, push at about 31KBs

I wonder what the IT guys at Apple are doing right now, some folks have to be paying for this upgrade, no? Sorting out the legit downloads from the rest of us must be interesting.

Can someone explain to me how Apple's accounting model allows them to charge $10 and include what I paid $20 for in January?

How has everyone that is complaining about how long it's taking to download 2.0 gotten the 2.0 download, I'm still getting the iTunes not available error message.

Only problem so far is that, when installing the Apps that I'd already downloaded from the store, it seemed to have a problem with the BA Flights app. Said it couldn't install that one. Anyone else?

ugh. no, i call BS on that.

listen people. there have been a few of us WHO HAVE PLUGGED IN OUR IPOD TOUCH AND DOWNLOADED 2.0 (5A347) THROUGH ITUNES LEGITIMATELY, AND HAVE IT RUNNING ON OUR IPODS. WITH NO HACKS, NO WORKAROUNDS, NO MANUAL INSTALLING.

IIRC they are downloading it illegally. That's why.
 
So I downloaded the .ipsw but when I double click it just opens iTunes and nothing happens. I also tried renaming it to .zip and I extracted some stuff, but nothing that I extracted was executable.

Help a newbie!
 
As a side note on the Beta build

The build numbers are the same that are for the iphone(direct link from apple). This is confirmed. The build that comes shipped with the new iphone 3G is the 5A347 build, which is that same Beta 8 build that was leaked from Apple's site yesterday.

So this means that in theory the link to the torrents I posted above (the 5A347 build) will be the actual version that Apple is going to release sometime today for the iPod touch. I have been using the 5A345 build since the 9th but you needed a special itunes to get the apps, this all changed when the itunes 7.7 came out on the 10th, this enabled the appstore from a regular itunes install.

Everybody feeling guilty about not paying the $10 do what I am doing. Create a backup of your ipod with itunes, use the Beta 8 build if you just can't wait till Apple "officially" releases it. Then do the same ****-click or Option-click and select your backup .ipsw, this will make your ipod revert back to the 1.1.4 firmware, then you can just purchase the 2.0 firmware from itunes. Steve will be happy to get his $10, you will be happy because you don't have to wait for Apple to "officially" release it.

I have my gmail account set up and works just fine but I'm getting this message when trying to set up my yahoo one " Cannot Get Mail: The user name or password for 'imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com' is incorrect'
 
Youtube concerns

I have been using the Beta 8 5A345 build and have not had any problems with youtube, nor gmail or random POP3 accounts for that matter.

btw, gotta love the push pull settings for email not. kinda strange getting audio notifications on incoming mail when I have my ipod.

I encourage you to go out an buy a Zune. I think it would be great...........for us....one less person griping because they cannot get something at the moment that they wanted it.
