That's what mine is saying.

So does anyone know if the 'backup' delete itself or something after we install the firmware?

I don't want 3+ GB's of nothing, personally since I have a smaller hard drive.

so, i check a little after midnight last night, EST, and nothing. this morning i checked from 8-8:20. well, after doing what i do and working til 8pm, i'm sitting here at 9:35 with no update on my touch. i love apple and their products, and i want them to keep making improvements and releasing stuff like the app store, os x updates, and 2.0 so i really dont mind paying the $10.

but this is pretty bad. the fact that the app store was up and we got the stuff we want, but cant use it, is like having the apple and att stores closed all day, with all iphone 3g accessories sitting out front for purchase. we've got everything to go with it, (7.7, apps, credit card...) but not what really matters. i'm not pissed, just impatient and disappointed that there is a link on apple.com to get the update, when you cant. why not say it will be available july 12th?

i totally understand not launching it at a specific time (ex: 8am) to avoid server problems but its happening anyway, we love apple stuff :)

anyway, i'm not ranting just adding to the 1000+ posts...

My iPod is back to saying 2.0 is the latest... I got excited for a sec when I clicked learn more but it's a no go. **sigh** 9:44 PM here on the East coast.... Hopefully before midnight....

I'm back to the 2.0 Learn More screen that does nothing. How can they get the iPhone update working, but not the iPod touch update? I mean, I would think there are more iPhone users trying to get the update than Touch users.

I've been stuck on the 'Learn More' back to iPod stats page in iTunes all morning.

I just tried again and this time iTunes told me that I had the latest upgrade - 1.1.4!

Tried again, it's still doing it! Have they pulled it completely?

EDIT - Sorry, missed those posts on my scan. This is a monster thread.

Imagine, us iPod touch users are having a crisis, and no one else cares. At least, I think this is the only thread on it on the internet(s).

This makes me want to invent a new swear word, and intentionally have :apple: in it.

I keep going in circles and nothing is working. I hope it works at midnight EST or 3 am EST (midnight in Cupertino)

I just talked with an Apple technical representative

She said that you aren't geting through because of the huge number of connections going into the bank of servers for updating - which are also the servers for updating iPhone Gen 1 and activating iPhone 3G - and these multiple things along with the fact that this was a worldwide launch is taxing their servers to the point of crashing. When iTunes tells you 1.1.4 is the current version, that's a point when the update servers are DOWN. iTunes sees nothing new and is fooled into thinking there is nothing new.

She said the best thing I (or any of us) can do is to just keep trying. That's right folks, keep clicking those Update buttons!!! :D

Happy second round of Apple-induced insanity (following WWDC), everyone! :apple:

EDIT: Think of the get more info failing to get through to the iTunes Store page as trying to get really popular concert tickets on Ticketmaster... there are so many connections trying to get in the limited openings in the server and are jamming it so many people just simplay can't access it.

I'm still surprised that Apple didn't expect this much traffic. Whatever, I'm not going to keep trying just so that iTunes will give me the opportunity to pay Apple. I still have about another 10 minutes to go on my FREE download.

Good News... New Zealand (Auckland) just got the update about 3 hours ago.

USA should be getting ours soon. I guess the upgrade is starting in East Asia, and spreading over to the US within a few hours or less. Unfortunatly, if im right, UK will be one of the last countries to recieve the upgrade, who knows...:apple:
