I really wish the screen would take up the entire front rather then the cam in the front. I do want a camera but not a face time camera.

Okay, I've brightened the visible area of the display and taken some measurements. The size of the home button is unlikely to change. The iPad's is the same size as the iPhones. The size is 11.20 mm diameter.

The screen appears to be 7.5 home buttons tall, which is 3.3" or so.

The iPhone display is ~2.9" tall. Assuming the displays are the same aspect ratio, which I doubt they'd change, then this display could be 4" at most, which would be 288dpi.

Im guess the measurements are incorrect. The display is probably just the same size as the iPhone. :(

YAwn.... Remember when Apple was a computer company? :(

Apple is still very much so a "computer" company. I still see them selling and developing MacBooks and iMacs. They also have their hands in a lucrative mobile computer market, and as long as they keep churning out quality products I don't begrudge them one bit.

Plus, they stopped being strictly "Apple Computers" years ago. :)

I've been holding out to get a new iPod Touch...all I want is A4 CPU and that display...everything is a bonus. I imagine they'll sell well since they are essentially a bad ass PDA and mobile gaming device...

Good news for people waiting for the new touch. Now if they would only drop the price for the entry-level model...

To me, this makes much more sense than the other photos without a front camera for FaceTime. Whether you think FaceTime is useful or not, Apple clearly thinks it's important. Just look at their ads for the iPhone 4. You can bet on FaceTime coming to Macs and iPads as well.

I hope no one is surprised by this...

Apple (like always) is giving students $199 towards a current generation iPod Touc...a sign Apple is clearing out the warehouses. Apple typically releases iPod Touches in September/October. This announcement is no surprise, but still welcome.

Just the news I've been waiting for

You know, between this, my iPad, and the free wireless service I get from my employer on the HTC EVO 4G, I'm starting to feel really good about not re-upping with AT&T on the iPhone 4. When this rumor pans out, there will be virtually nothing left to differentiate the iPhone from the iPod touch other than dropped calls, capped 3G, and GPS.

I just hope my iPad holds a decent resale value when the Captain finally releases the Facetime/front camera-enabled version

They stopped making computers? I could have sworn that Apple announced they shipped more Macs last quarter than any before it.

Apple iPod event always first tuesday of Sept -> so we can expect Sep 7th as iPod event and announcement of iPod touch new generation

do you own one? are you in the market for one? if not..... why feign concern.

i have old and new mac products and computers and im thoroughly satisfied with my 1st gen unibody 15" MBP. many new macs have come since then that ive lusted after but never have i been sad that i have the mac i have. all mac computers are at the top of the heap even if they refresh once a year. the above average mac prosumer who spent 6 grand on his mac pro isnt whining, he's profiting from his mac investment. There are other's which will never buy but forever gripe about the direction of the company. that's annoying.

Those components for the screen look very similar to the iPhone 4's. Retina display incoming it seems!

The retina display is the most expensive part of the iPhone 4. They'll probably make it an HD option where you have to pay more to have it.

I predict MC Hammer making a Face Time Video.

Can't Touch This!

Yawn, remember when people who posted on computer related forums and message boards actually knew what a computer was?

im guessing from the screens that this iPod Touch is no different than the last 3? Come on! Four generations later, I thought we would see a complete overhaul, not just a camera addition! :(
