good analysis there bud! ;)

Thanks. I mean, location is the only factor that makes sense. Every company releases their new product to their home country first or at least at the same time as other countries. Samsung always releases their phones to Korea first and so does Apple. However, Apple just does not seem to care much about the iPod Touch. Although they made great improvements; their professionalism and effort will always be towards the iPhone and the iPad. To me, this was just a sloppy release. I don't think Apple's marketing team would ever think it's a bright idea to make people in their home country angry just to try to sell a product over another completely different item in another country. Comparing the iPod Touch and the Vita is like me saying that I will not buy an HP laptop because I have an iPod Touch and it's better. Two completely different items for two completely different needs. :)

Thinking of upgrading from the 3rd gen if I placed an order for the 5th gen today how long might I be waiting anyone have any ideas? Don't want to sell my 3rd gen yet if im going to be waiting a long time. (btw im in Ireland)

Beyond Memphis I won't be much help, because that's the point where everything heads to regional/local centers (at which point I'll obsessively track the shipments headed to Iowa), but until then I'll be happy to relay information back here :)

Well, we definitely appreciate you for it. :) Wow, you are lucky to be home-schooled. Do you miss the school environment and functions, though?

I disagree. I think the iPT5 is finely tuned to compete against the PS Vita. IMO, iPad mini will be used to compete with KF.

Apple have almost reach their saturation limit on all their vertical market segments now. The only way to grow is to expand horizontally to take on new territories.

iTV, anyone?

If you order the 5G, you might want to wait until you actually receive it before selling the 3rd generation if possible because we are still not exactly clear on shipping dates. Could be anywhere from a week to a few weeks.

Not really. I used to attend a private school, and I don't miss that in the least. The school was full of a bunch of stuck-up jerks and all of the sporting events basically sucked to attend. I have plenty of friends now that I see a few times a week thanks to church and such, and I'm able to avoid a lot of the peer pressure that comes with high school. It's helped me be my own person without worrying about what other people think of me. Homeschooling also allows for a lot of education flexibility. I'll enter college next year as a sophomore because right now my curriculum consists entirely of online college classes. In addition, I scored a job at this office doing data entry. Pays a lot more than most high school jobs, and since my school day is flexible it works out a lot better. Homeschooling comes with a lot of freedom and great opportunities, I'm really thankful for it :)

You can disagree all you want, but that will never change the fact that a multimedia ios or android device will never be in the same category as a dedicated handheld gaming device. People who want to buy either one will not change their mind for the other because these two meet completely different needs. The only product out there right now that is truly in the iPod Touch category is the Galaxy Player. I don't understand why people have to try to compare apples to oranges. No one company in the world can meet the different needs of everyone and no one product in the world can EVER meet the different needs of everyone which is crystal clear to me, but apparently not to you. I wish people would be more for consumer choice than for promoting any one company.

Dont forget, the success of iPad has completely killed off the netbook market. And the success of iPhone has made Nintendo announce the first company loss in thirty years. Everything in the electronic industry is related to each other.

There are many features on the Vita and IPT5 do overlap, for example, Vita offers social gaming, however, iOS does it much better. Vita offers PS classic games for under $ 10 just like the App store. Of course each device has its own strength and weakness. Apple (and together with Nintendo) just need to take enough market share from Sony and drive them into the red further. PS Vita will be history soon.

This is exactly the mindset that is blinding you to any logical reasoning. Forget the fact that Apple was extremely inspired by Sony's ideas and copied a lot of their ideas (Google this if needed)... No, Sony needs to be taken down as well as Microsoft, Samsung, Google, Asus, Amazon, and any other company that seems even a little threatening to Apple. Why? Only Apple should exist in the world and people should not have any choices and should HAVE to buy Apple products or live without technology altogether. You have fun living in that kind of world. I prefer to live in the real world where there is still plenty of choice for consumers. The iPod Touch games will not keep any sane person entertained for more than ten minutes while people can play on the Vita for hours. Why? Because it is a dedicated gaming device and that's what you're supposed to do! Yet you do not have any logical explanations for that. The iPad did not kill off anything. There is a good percentage of people in the world who still prefer laptops/computers over tablets. Again, why do you have to have this concept that everyone in the world should have the same needs and want the same products from the same company? Last time I checked, the world is not full of manufactured robots; but living breathing people who are very different from each other.

Yeah! Preach it! Consumer choices for the win! :) Seriously. Market competition is good for us as consumers because it forces companies to try and crank out better products than their rivals do. Wishing that one company would "take down" another is downright ridiculous. Enjoy the brands you enjoy, but be okay with other options existing for the sake of other people. At the very least, accept the fact that perhaps a perceived "rival" product will motivate the company that makes your products to do better (although in this case, Apple is not going for the hardcore gaming market. It's obvious that their target is casual gamers. The Vita and the iPod touch do not compete with each other in any capacity).

I gotta agree with this statement, that is why I don't have any ios games on my ipod touch...if I want a real game experience, I will just go home and play on my desktop rig which will keep immersed for more hours than any iOS game could do for me!

Or a reality distortion field? ;)

An update on the FedEx plane: based on the FlightAware tracker, it looks like they're in a holding pattern over Anchorage Int'l airport. Should be landing soon, everybody keep an eye out on your order tracking pages! :)

EDIT: The FlightAware page just refreshed, the plane landed 5 minutes ago (I think there's a US law about flight trackers being delayed by a few minutes)
Do you have a link? I'd be interested in tracking too. ;)

I've been tracking different flights -- FedEx 28 landed, but now there is another flight heading from Anchorage to Memphis, flight 48.

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/FDX48

It originated from China, could that be the one?

My FedEx tracking still says only that it left Kunshan, not that it's arrived anywhere.

So I wonder which flight it'll hop on next? Seems like this current one only flies between Anchorage and Shanghai.

That's not it. That flight originated from Shenzhen. Kunshan shipments wouldn't fly out of Shenzhen, they'd fly out of Shanghai, like flight 28 did. My FedEx tracking is in the same situation, but it's possible that it takes a while for FedEx to unload the plane, scan everything, and get it on another plane. Fingers crossed...

my point exactly, even if the plane has landed, it doesn't mean that our status pages would be updated ASAP, they have to scan each cargo container as it is being cleared through customs...since this is an international shipment...it could take some time for our pages to update with the pertinent details...

I completely forgot about customs.... yeah, it should be a while before our pages update. I feel better now that there's a good reason :) I was worried I was going to look like an idiot for being wrong about Flight 28.

Exactly. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy some games like Cut the Rope, Temple Run etc., but they hardly keep me entertained for more than five minutes at a time. :)

Exactly, they all just get repetitive; no real story arc and the controls get tiring after a while; can't enjoy the prolonged experience since your hands aren't ergonomically suited for the iDevices...

Haha. Thank you. This is exactly why I do not understand why anyone would want their favorite company of any product to take down all others and be the last one standing. If that ever happens, you are the one who loses because companies who have no one to compete against get stale fast and the consumer is stuck with a once-favorite product that has stopped technologically advancing due to having no competition. You sound intelligent beyond your years. Home school has been very good to you apparently. :)

Hey, no hating on homeschool.

Even I can see the advantage of competition. :p

I was definitely not hating on home school. I actually think it could be the best option if practical for those involved and done correctly. I'm in the Education field myself and if I were to ever get married and have kids; I would want to have the option of home-schooling them. Most students learn much more that way. :)
