iPod touch iPod Touch 5G Release Date

Finally got it! As predicted, it showed up right after I left for work. My mom said the delivery guy was really sorry; apparently some system glitch caused him to miss my order when he was in the neighborhood during the morning, so he had to stop by on his afternoon run. All is forgiven, of course :) I'm just opening the box now, I'll check back in after I'm done to let everyone know what I think!

At last! Enjoy your new toy...I haven't been able to use mine very much because my youngest has been playing with Siri for the past hour!

Considering how hard of a time I had getting into the box, I doubt that was the case :p

I got Black/Slate, and I LOVE it. First reactions are: wow, so light! amazing screen (love the bigger size, since I have big hands, and the quality of it is fantastic). EarPods are very very comfortable, although I haven't actually listened to them yet I tried them on. Feels like they aren't even there when I put them in my ears. Next I gotta try out the camera :) This is great, I love it!

So glad and happy for you! It's really beautiful, I'm so glad I got the slate/black as well. The slate does attract smudges, but they wipe off really easily.

Let me know what you think if the new ear buds. I still use my bigger ones, but they were good compared to the old ones.

If you are into adventure games, check out a game called Lili. It's on sale for 1.99 and looks gorgeous and vibrant on the new 5g screen.

I'm surprised and impressed with these EarPods. They'll probably see some pretty good use from me. I'll let myself use them for three or four days and then decide whether or not to pick up a Remote and Mic pair. I need to test them in a couple of situations, but I like them quite a bit from just giving them a one-song test drive.

I was surprised too they work really well don't they. Siri is also a blast to mess with.

Agreed, she really is fun. This is my first Siri device so I was just trying silly little things like looking up movies, defining words, setting timers, and so on. She can't seem to find my local weather though, which is weird, since the weather app displays it just fine. Any idea why that would happen?

No idea. I tried and she told me the current temp and even mentioned it was hot (82 degrees).

Something to note and I honestly cannot remember if this was the case before Siri or after. If you are typing in a message box or entering text, the keyboard has a mic icon. Push that and it will allow you to dictate speech into text.
 
My 9/14 pre-order arrived today - originally scheduled to arrive Monday, 10/15.

First thing I did was check out Maps. Typed in my address and it placed my home precisely. Google always places me a mile north. Also, Google's satellite view of my region is several years older than the Maps view. Tried getting directions to a couple of different areas. They were the same as Google Maps.

I live in a low population area and was astounded that not only does Siri work, but when asked to find the "closest" Thai restaurants, she listed the only one in town - as well as some 94 miles away. A fair response, considering the nearest mall is an hour and a half away.

I have an iPad 2 so the Touch 5G scares me a bit because it's so light weight and thin. Hope Otterbox comes out with new cases soon.

There's a few things I don't like about iOS 6 (the App store being one), so I think I'll keep my iPad on 5.1.1 for now. Sure am loving the Touch, so far.

Yeah, I noticed dictation was there. Haven't had much of a chance to use it, but from online tests I've seen it's actually fairly accurate in quiet environments and you can even get full punctuation and capitalization if you know all the right verbal shortcuts. Could potentially come in handy. It's on Macs too, if you have Mountain Lion. Depending on how well that works, I could see myself using it a ton once I get my new computer in the spring.

I'm keeping my iPad on 5.1.1 too. :)

I also find the touch a little scary to hold. I've nearly dropped it a few times. Seems like it wants to slip from my hand. I've started using the cheap-looking loop because i sure don't want to drop it.

I didn't put the classic or 3G touch in a case. But, I think the 5g is going to need something. Maybe just a clear skin to make it easier to grip.

Update: I tried the map for my house. It's an older home - no construction on my street for years. On Apple's maps, it looks like the road ends before it gets to my house. Picks up for a small area, and then ends again. Quite inaccurate. Another reason to keep the iPad on 5.1.1.

finally, I bought it this morning. now I synchronize all my contents. it's shiny, and nice upgrade for me (2nd gen. to 5th gen.). most of all, it's surprisingly lighter. but I don't think that the screen does look bigger since I've used 7 inch tablet, 15.6 inch laptop. I don't know that it's only me. but compared to 2nd Gen., it is much faster, well responsible. I love it. it's white & silver 32GB. :D

Wow that's pretty extreme haha. I used to be extremely paranoid with a screen protector but haven't had one on for the past month and its been in perfect condition. Not a single scratch...

Just wondering... Have you Found a Retailer in New Zealand which has stock of the new touch yet? :p. If you live up In Auckland I found one small shop who has Three in stock. I'm in Hawkes Bay so it's becoming quite a Pain :L

Argh I wish :( I live here in Wellington, been nagging all the large retail stores (Dicksmith, Yoobee, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman) but I'm always told "over the next few weeks". I haven't called since Tuesday though so I'm gonna call them all tomorrow :) Hopefully at least one store has a black 32gb in stock! Hmm how did you find the small shop that sells them? Just curious :p

I was just doing my average look around on the web and stumbled across these guys, (It's called Playtech if you want to google it). I've done a lot of Search on them for the new iPods as well! I managed to find out that Noel Leeming and Bond & Bond don't even have suppliers yet! They both have been quoted 4-3 Weeks, assuming the date of November 2nd. Though Dick Smith, Harvey Norman and the Warehouse all have a Supplier, but no stock. They all have 2 Weeks on their system. (Though Harvey Norman local to me was expecting limited stock on the 10th October!). Besides that, It's all I've got :/.

Sooo Looking forward to the new ones though! I sold all my old 4th Gen's so I can get a Silver + White one and a Black + Slate in 32GB Both :D. If you hear anything let me know, I'll be sure to do the same :)

Great! I'll be ringing a few of them tomorrow morning so will keep you updated if any of them get stock. 10th of Oct would've been perfect, my birthday! I don't want to sell my 4th gen yet... I use it 24/7 and don't want to go a whole 2 weeks without it! Also, how much did you sell it for?

I know! I went in store then and they just said "Sorry, we don't have any. Maybe in 2 Weeks". And I'm just like "WHAT?!" :O. Anyway... :p. I sold off a Black 8GB I got on the Release date (and time) of the 4th Gen in 2010 for $140 with original box and unwrapped Accessories, and my 32GB in White I got on the Release date last year for the white model (which I may note, was the 9th of October). And that was mint with box, Unwrapped accessories, for $245. And everything else is coming out of Ye' ol' Wallet to pay the rest ;P. I sure do miss them though.. Being stuck with a Cracked 8GB iPod Nano 6G :L

Argh that sucks. 8GB for $140... really? Been seeing them go for $180-$200 lately. Just checked out Playtech and saw that they ship! But the Black is sold out... would've bought one straight away as shipping is only 1 working day.

Yeah I know. I kinda jumped the Gun and got rid of them on the Announcement Day, before the Sale Price went down.. But because they didn't discontinue the old model, The price went up (Dang it :p). The reason why I didn't get one off them, is I don't like buying from small companies as they don't have a tendency to do anything if there's a fault or something goes wrong in shipping :L. But oh well, Hopefully something comes in soon. I'll keep you up to date if I hear anything new :)

Wow, I called EVERY single store in Wellington, JB Hi-Fi, The Warehouse, Harvey Norman, Yoobee and no one had any stock or knew when they were getting them in! Argh. I really hope its this week!
 
H*** Yeah! I just used it for the first time, and my gosh, this thing can kick out some serious sound compared to my 2g!
