Why is everyone talking about iLife suite on iOS? All the apps (essentially) are on the iPhone/iPad already or are unnecessary:
- iPhoto = Photos
- iMove = iMovie

Would you really want Garageband or iWeb on the iDevices? The former is served by many apps in the store and the latter would be cumbersome on the iPhone.

What am I missing?

when i said ilife for idevice i meant the ipad would get imovie and the iphone/touch would get iwork

Garageband on the iPad would rock for musicians.

I bet it's earlier this year so they can demo iOS 4 for the iPad and seed copies to developers.

Ummm bro,why not just get and iPhone, or EVO or Droid X and ummm, ya know, ummmm have a phone with constant data all in one? maybe?

Because not everyone wants an phone or they already have a phone that they love.
With the touch I can just take right out of my pocket and get online anywhere if it had 3G. My blackberry 8330 with boost is nice enough for me.

no love for the apple TV? what ever happen to the rumors regarding the new ios unit?

If they were to release it this year, it would obviously get it's own event. In fact perhaps this means that they are clearing space for Apple TV..spring: iPad, early summer: iPhone, late summer: iPods, fall: Apple TV. Just speculation..

Back to school FREE iPod touch program running

until Sep 7th, i highly doubt this mid Aug iPod event.

It is possible the event to be held at mid August, but why change something which is has been for few years, first week of september.

Apple TV will fall right in line with the ipods, since its technally a media device. Seems silly to devote a event to a single device such as the Apple TV when they can save money and time by just showing it off at the iPod event.

I see the Apple TV looking a lot like the new Mac Mini.

i know this sounds a bit silly but what about an actual TV from apple? It will look a lot like the cinema display but larger and have it have wifi bulit in and all you do is stream your media off your mac or PC. You can even use the Apple TV as your display for your mac or Pc.

At least for a first announcement for a new Apple TV they would obviously want a separate event to avoid stealing the thunder..anything else would be stupid.

I would love for a cheap 3g data only plan ipod touch. Not expecting it. But I think it would be a good idea for Apple. With the Sprint Peel and all these new MiFi devices (some, like the Peel, aimed directly at the ipod touch or wifi only ipad) coming out in the last month or two, Apple and AT&T are going to loose some potential customers.

It's really what I want too. I don't want a cell phone. But I do want internet in my pocket.

My thoughts exactly. I don't want to pay $2000 for an iPhone, especially when I typically use less than 20 minutes of talk time a month. I've always said that a data-only plan for $40/month or less would cause me to buy an iPhone immediately. But recently I had the same thought as you - a 3G iPod touch. The iPad has a 3G version, so why not?

Like you, I don't expect it at all. But I am seriously considering iPod touch + Virgin Mobile's MiFi at the $20/month "pay only when you need it" level when the new touches come out. Only problem is it makes 3 devices to carry around, but I'll deal with that in exchange for not being locked into a ridiculous AT&T contract.

As on other topic i said, we have created concept of ipod touch 4gen.

How would it steal thunder? how would it be "stupid" ? Its technically the same thing. a device that handles all your media. It will be stupid to have a event this month and then have an event next month. It costs money to run all those lights. Costs money for the media to spend air tickets, the gas, rent a car etc to get down to the campus and to be honest its pointless to have an event for a single item like the Apple TV. The iPhone was a single event but see, the iPhone is a much larger product then the Apple TV.

money doesn't grow on trees. Even though Apple has billions of dollars, i'm sure they dont want to spend it on lighting for two events that could simply be merged since both products SHARE THE SAME MEANING. A multimedia device.

I always wondered what the reason for early September iPod release was based on. You'd think the prime time for new iPods would be early-mid August JUST before the kids return to school. That would sweep heavy sales of the iPods since all the college kids buy in August then starve through Christmas.

The deals on old iPods with new computers makes sense as well--clean out old stock. Why couldn't they co-exist? Buy a new iPod, OR get an old one with a new computer. August 17th sounds good to me.

Could you perhaps make a couple more concepts for the iPod Touch.

Your current concept, I believe, doesn't have the spacing appropriate for the home button. It should match the same limited space that occurs for the Front-Facing Camera, as we can see in the leaked casing. Apple spaces both sides of the screen equally, and I don't think this would change for a Front Facing Camera.

Secondly, your design needs to be a little wider. Could you also make the sides plain, as seen in the iPhone. Could you also perhaps try a full aluminum unibody side and back concept that matches the iPad?

I'm thinking they are moving things around to make room for another event to happen in September and may be iPad plus Apple TV related. ;)
Exciting times for Apple!

while I agree, I agree on different points.

Getting a set of appleTV, iPod, and iPad(I hope) announcements out, will fill out a suite for the holiday buying season. Remember that Apple stated emphatically the would not allow anyone to under cut them on price.

Getting the AppleTV announced puts them in front of the GoogleTV product suite (before the Xmas selling season). Think about a USB port for connecting to a webcam... FaceTime Den? (on your HDTV)

Getting an iPad 2 out there (facetime ready, and a 7" ), cutting the current prices and putting this out out as a replacement at the high end, put the pressure on the WinBooks threatening on the horizon

Getting the iPod Touch with a new Facetime ready, is the perfect "i don't want an iPhone because ATT sucks, but I do want facetime and apps!" (my fiance'... a Tmobile zealot).

Putting AppleTV ( maybe with camere... FaceTime den... eventually, FaceTime _Small business?), iPod Touch (pocket), iPod Nano (active wear), iPad2 7" (really, I see this as the 'purse model'), and iPad2 9" (both with facetime readiness), an iLife update with Facetime built in (for all the macs out there), it will establish a FaceTime as the de facto communications mode for humans

Couple this with MacBook Air (our lightest full function Mac with Facetime and a keyboard... our competition to the BlackPad;-) and you've got a fully 'in your Facetime' product line

XServe (Corp FaceTime Server?)
Mac Pro
iMac
MBPro
MB
MBAir
iPad
iPhone
IPodTouch
iPod Nano (maybe just watch Facetime ;-)

Mobile Me - iOS 4 integration

I dunno if this has been hit on yet or not, but I'll bet the Mobile Me upgrade will be to enable FaceTime calling. By maintaining a persistent connection to the Mobile Me servers, iPods touch would be able to receive FaceTime calls via push notification routed according to email address.

AT&T isn't losing out on iPads though, and really AT&T is losing anything, they're probably happy people get iPod touches, the touch makes people want an iPhone, unless theyre just plain silly or under 16 years old

oh, good grief! Plenty of people own touchs that don't want to own an iPhone. AT&T is ONE REASON. Wanting a different type of phone is another. I, for one, prefer my BB to an iPhone. I have a touch, as well as 9 other ipods, between my wife and I. But no iPhones in this household. Never will have one, if they stay married to AT&T.

What's the point? It would basically be the iPhone, and assuming you got this device, you would probably own a cell phone. So you would have two separate devices along with two bills, one for phone and the other for data, that would most likely be about the same as an iPhone bill. Plus the iPhone is subsidized in cost.
