Teen, "Daddy can I have an iPhone?"

Father taking it up the butt with an overcharged mortgage, "No!"

Teen, "Daddy can I have an iPod Touch?"

Father taking it up the butt with an overcharged mortgage, "Hmmm .... ok."

Teen, "Yeah!!!!"

Facetime has just become the teen thing of the next generation. Brilliant marketing Apple!

why can't teens interact like thje good old days. you know in person? Apples ads for facetime at the moment are those special, once in a life time moments. No dislocated arms or hands in front of a Kroma key. REAL life stuff.

Hm, never heard any "Teen" say "Daddy".....

Why would iChat come with iLife? It comes bundled on every Mac.

So that a major update for iChat doesn't have to wait for a major update to Mac OS X. So far, every major version of iChat has shipped with a new version of OS X (iChat 5 with Snow Leopard, iChat 4 with Leopard, iChat 3 with Tiger, and so on...). If it is bundled with iLife, or just shipped separately, like Safari, it doesn't have to wait for a new OS to build in a new major feature. I don't really want to have to wait for 10.7 just to get Facetime support in iChat.

OK. I understand what you are getting at now.

Two "events" with no mention of the Mac OS. Has it become Apple's "forgotten son" told to sit in the corner and hide away????

I am a teen myself, well just became, but I certainly don't talk like that...Yeah though, Facetime/video chat/texting/any way of communicating with technology is the new "it-thing" for us teens.

So for someone like me that is starting as a student sep 1st and looking for a new mac with free iPod Touch should wait for this and iLife11 ?

I don't think it matters if you get it now or after the event because the promotion only counts for the "3rd generation" 8gb.

Thank God Apple will finally release an iPod update before all high school and college students are back in school. Actually, very few will be back in school by mid-August.

It will be taken away though. kids need to know school is not the place to be "jamming" to their solider boy, Justin beber, or some other young stars who cant sing worth a damn"

You are also not a cheerleader looking to marry a rich man like their mothers did. You actually have a chance at a career making something of value instead of listening to the man.

Ta-dah! Cha-ching!

I bet you are having fun with the domain names you registered off a friends credit card!

Yeah, I'm glad that there might be a possiblity of an Apple doing the iPod event. Either way though we'll have our electronics everywhere. Always before and after school I see my friends with their iPod Touches just sitting there listening to music and playing games...

I would love for Apple to release a iPod Touch +3G. A data only iPod. I would love an iPhone but don't use a mobile enough to justify the expensive monthly contract. In the UK I can buy a 1GB data only plan for £5. If Apple decided to launch a cloud based iTunes I could purchase a 15GB data only plan for £15 and I'd be the happiest Apple customer! I live in hope!

At least for a first announcement for a new Apple TV they would obviously want a separate event to avoid stealing the thunder..anything else would be stupid.

Remember though that the Apple TV was originally introduced at an iPod event. And if it is to become an iOS device as rumored it would be the exact opposite of stupid to (re)introduce it alongside the new iPods.

I literally let out a little gasp of excitement when I read that the info on iPad iOS 4 would be announced. I'm really happy (IF THIS IS TRUE):)

the touch makes people want an iPhone, unless theyre just plain silly or under 16 years old

No. If I could get an iPhone that costs me $7/month like my current phone, you might have a point, but until that happens, my iPod touch does not make me want an iPhone.

No. Some people are happy with the phone they have already or some may be don't even want a phone. (Yes, there are people out in the world that don't want a cell phone)

and I find many kids that are under 16 years old with nanos. (many with the 2ed gen. Few with the first. Very few with the 3rd, 4th and 5th) there are some i see with the old ipod minis.
