It must be so fantastic to be an analyst these days. Just conservatively reiterate whats been said on blogs and tech sites for three months and call it an insight. And boom, you make a bazillion bucks, just like that!

I don't care what you may say, those guys are smart and I want that job!

MBP updates will be at least parallel.

the performance gap is so slim right now b/w MB and the MBP, that any upgrade to the macbook would make it better than the Pro. Apple would not do that.

i say at least, but not limited to:
aluminum macbook, better speakers in the MBP, both updated right after the back to school sale is over.

increased capacity and battery in ipod touch at the same time.

Yeah.. I can't wait. I'll be like a paraplegic in a wheelchair store. It'll be greater than the great chicago fire. It will be more intense than billy banks 10 minutes intense ab focus workout. It'll be...etc etc etc :)

Yeah then maybe they can start updating the macbook semi-pro. You know I feel like the flag ship laptop is becoming second fiddle to the macbook.

It ain't Apple...

Apple is all about hype and spin. First it is MWSF, the iPhone announcements, then fall announcements for laptops, then it back to MWSF...and so the cycle never ends. Steve appears, the fans go crazy--(I've seen the MWSF videos) and then we wait for the summer and fall announcements.

Don't get me wrong, there are products, and good ones at that, but the hype and spin is such bovine-scat: no other word for it. And the Mac loyalists eat this bovine scat up. Now lets look at the announcements: the MacBook Air - innovative but geared for a niche market and not a big selling item so I've been told; the 3G iphone - nice but just a much needed upgrade over last year's model (new and improved?(!)) and now the 9 month overdue laptops that will miss the back to school period. Everything is a secret to build hype and the crowd eats it up.

Interesting, the one product that WAS NOT a 'secret' and is hand down Apple's best one (ever(?)): Mac OS X and it's evolution to Snow Leopard.

Hey everyone, don't you feel manipulated and, maybe, just maybe, a bit foolish acting this way?

--------------------

You should have noticed that Apple says very little...rumor sites add the hype and spin. For instance, the iPhone was announced in January, and then almost nothing from Apple for six months until its release. The hype wasn't theirs. And there wouldn't be any hype if Apple didn't deliver great products, because nobody would care.

As far as the MBA being a niche product, yes it is, and that's almost the definition of "not a big selling item"; it's selling as expected. As far as laptops being "overdue" by 9 months, since when does anyone's wishful thinking equal Apple's product release schedule?

I think this is it:

It doesn't necessarily say aluminum. It just says it won't be using the PVC anymore.

But you're right: nothing in there says anything about switching all computers to aluminum. It seems like its going that way, granted (only one computer, the MacBook, still uses plastic), but its not really stated in that article.
That's what I was thinking too, but I needed more solid evidence than that.

wel than since no one can back me u here, i guess i might be wrong, but i strongly believe it will be aluminum, i mean all the rumors hint at it, but i supose ith just rumours. if im wrong i look like and idoit, but if i'm right i'm gonna pulll out BIG FONT and rubb it in, it's gonna be soooo annoying to y'all who said i was wrong

mainly, because every boddy knows theres gonna be a new os update coming, ther always is, it's never a maybe, and plus apple really cant keep it too secret seeing as they have to sent it to developers

Olson also points to slimmer MacBooks which could also have newly designed keyboards.

I hope they ditch the chiclet keyboards. I kick myself daily for not buying a Macbook Pro because the Macbook keyboard sucks. Same for the new keyboards for the iMac and Mac Pro. blaghghhgh

What keyboard do you want to have on the MacBook? iBook G4's?
Sure, I wouldn't mind that.

Yeah, many of us believe the next MacBooks will be aluminum, but where in the Steve Jobs letter did it say that?

Yes. Really annoying. Even more annoying than all the typos in this sentence. I would appreciate that you do not do so; we don't.

I think this is it:

Apple plans to completely eliminate the use of PVC and BFRs in its products by the end of 2008.

It doesn't necessarily say aluminum. It just says it won't be using the PVC anymore.

But you're right: nothing in there says anything about switching all computers to aluminum. It seems like its going that way, granted (only one computer, the MacBook, still uses plastic), but its not really stated in that article.

Aren't you forgetting something? Seems Apple is too (actually, I can kinda see why they haven't updated it, but by now it's about time): the Mac Mini. I can see it in aluminum as well, provided they can give it good airflow, so we very well might see an all-aluminum lineup soon. Of course, it could just be a different type of plastic.

I hope they ditch the chiclet keyboards. I kick myself daily for not buying a Macbook Pro because the Macbook keyboard sucks. Same for the new keyboards for the iMac and Mac Pro. blaghghhgh

I love the MacBook keyboard, I cringe every time I have to use a MBP. Considering the standalone keyboards are now "chiclet" as well, I think it's safe to say the MBP will probably follow with the next actual redesign. That may happen very soon, or it may take a little while.

Hey, I admitted that I might be wrong, but do not patronize me. Just because I written a few typos doesn't give you the right to judge my intelligence, if you have any typos, I don't point them out like your stupid, If you disagree with something someone says, your suppose to discuss it, instead to making the other person feel stupid.

Geez!, Can't people just be nice anymore!

It's not that we don't think Apple will be moving to all aluminium macs, just that we don't agree that there is 'proof' of it in anything Apple has released. You don't have grounds to rub it in; we just don't agree with everything you are saying.

If you could stop it with the big capitalized posts that would be nice. And I phrased my reply wrong; I meant to say stop this:

if i'm right i'm gonna pulll out BIG FONT and rubb it in, it's gonna be soooo annoying to y'all who said i was wrong
which is not nice at all.

They better bring something good. Dell just announced the new Precision laptops which have amazing specs and look better than anything Apple has ever come out with. The same old MBP case and disgusting quality screen isnt going to compete with the new Dells.

I don't know how long 1" thickness, OS X, and "the best designed notebook ever, it's a classic design," will continue to sway prospective buyers when PCs are quickly catching up.

if you quoted the entire post, you could tell i was joking.and i wasn't trying patronize anyone, i was just annoyed how people just jump into a forum without reading previous post, so i figure i'd be annoying back. i didn't make anyone feel stupid, and if i did, i'm sorry

Not alergic to aluminium...

...as I have other things made from it, but will find out soon. Going to do some research and contact Apple.

Or you know, you might be allergic to aluminium. Had a friend who had the same problem, not with Apple product, but most of the metals (Aluminium, steel, etc.). You should try to hold something made out of aluminium sold by another company see if it do the same thing.

thats because the dell is brand new, and the current macbooks are not. i mean c-mon, i hope you didnt expect they laptop not to exceed current or previous brands. like when people said the air looked better than any laptop pc makers ever made, untill a few months later when newer laptops can out, and why judge how good a computer is by it's looks, for my experience, i've learns that the coolness of the design dosent make a good computer.

same old MBP case and disgusting quality screen isnt going to compete with the new Dells.

wow disgusting screens? i always thought they where pretty decent screens, i didnt realise they where horrible.

EDIT:well i have to admit they are pretty, but i'd still prefer a macbook
(and the specks arent THAT amazing though they are a bump up, but again it's NEW technology)

If they update the Macbook and NOT the Macbook Pro I'll certainly be disgusted with Apple. If that happens, I might as well consider buying the consumer Macbook because it will be just as powerful as the Pro not to mention it will be completely refreshed compared to the pro.

Another poster mentioned that Apple might do away with the Macbook and go with one laptop line. Interesting idea. They could with all aluminum like they currently offer in the proline... then go with an entry level product that has Macbook features; a middle ground laptop with separate gpu; a high-end with 17" screen and provision for 4 processors (bigger case with larger heatsink). If Apple carried 3 versions of the same laptop, they would be able to sell if for less and update the line more frequently. Each model could provide for more upgrade options beyond the base model like they currently offer. And because they offer only 3 models, the upgrade options can be more diverse than what the offer now.

Something I whipped up.
