iPod touch iPod Touch "Buy Now"

just checked my order again, site is back up but the order is still "processing items" and still doesnt have a release date besides october.
 
Same here, Processing Items.

I say to maybe get a feel for where Apple might be in the "processing to preparing" status, we post our pre-order dates (I know some already have) and which version.

Mine was

pre-ordered on September 20th
Silver/white 32 GB
 
I ordered mine on the 14th (I live in the US) and it's still processing :( hopefully it moves to the preparing for shipment stage soon. Does anyone know how Apple determines who gets their orders shipped first? Is it based on when you order it?

EDIT: To add more specific details about my order, I ordered mid-afternoon on Friday, September 14th. It's a 32gb Black and Slate, no engraving

That surprises me that an engraved one would get prepared for shipment faster. I always assumed that engraved orders took longer to prepare (for example, I got my iPad 2 a couple days before my dad did, despite the fact that we placed our orders at exactly the same time. His was engraved, mine was not). I gotta say, I'm getting pretty squirrelly over here. Seeing that other people are getting their orders prepared for shipping has me refreshing my order page every 10 minutes or so!
 
I ordered on the 14th. Status still says in processing. 64GB - US. No engraving.
 
I ordered just yesterday (10/4) from both Apple and Best Buy.

Apple still says "processing" with no date. Best Buy has an estimated ship date of 11/4. We'll see which one comes first and then the other I will cancel.
 
Maybe Apple reveals the shipping date on 10 am PDT, referring to their keynote time. 10 am, that would be in one and a half hour...
 
mine is now "Preparing for Shipment" and my credit card has been charged :) From Australia
getting engraved
 
Maybe since the engraved iPod's have to go through the additional process to actually have it engraved or prepared so reflect this status?

I'm a little confused by your wording, but are you suggesting that "Preparing for Shipment" includes the engraving process? I wouldn't think so, I assumed that engraving happened in the "Processing" stage. I could be wrong though, who knows?
 
i would assume it would occur in the "Preparing for Shipment" as you can't change the order at this stage where you can when it is processing stage

Yes, that's what I was implying. I don't know either and only Apple does. I just think it's fun that we're like kids standing outside a candy store waiting for a new Wonka bar or something. :p

I think you're right, that they are getting ours ready first so that they will arrive as everyone else's does.

Another thing I've noticed is that in the past the engraved ones come straight from China, which would also slow it down a bit I guess.

That does make sense. I thought everything came straight from China though, not just the engraved orders. My last experience ordering something online from Apple was with the iPad 2, and when I first got tracking information for it it said it left from Shenzhen. My iPad 2 wasn't engraved though. Maybe we're all reading way too much into things, but that's half the fun of it, right? :D

Ordered as soon as they went on sale at midnight Sept 14th. 32GB black/slate model no engraving. Still showing processing with available to ship in October. Bummer....

Unless you need one right now, I would honestly wait 2-3 weeks after they reach the stores. There are always minor bugs in a new release..

But, actually, everyone who ordered an iPod will have this new release... This would mean, that everyone who preordered will get a product with minor bugs...
