not a bad idea, I am at University and the closest Apple retail store is the Regent Street one, but the train ticket to the store would come to about £21 (incl. underground) so if I decide to go buy my iTouch this weekend I'll probably take my tent and bedding with me .. (jk)

Apple store at Bullring in Birmingham has loads of 16gb and 8gb, just bought mine.
Not unboxed it yet so fingers crossed all is well.
For info they did honour the online discount, but I had to log in and show them my online status and discount applied! - ive now cancelled my order online!

Hopefully they'll start shipping soon if the UK retail stores have them, I don't have a store within 100miles like.
sweet, I'm going to be in London Saturday anyway, I'll have to try that. Were they straight off OK with it? Or did they try and avoid it/umm and ahh about it?
Well I've rung them twice... both people say that it will be the 28th... NO EARLIER. Both people have said that... so I've jsut cancelled it and I'll walk into some non-Apple store in october and pick one up then. Not gonna have them treat me like this.
Shame. Hopefully wont be the case, thats exactly what happened over in the US and they shipper earlier. Either way I get to wait.
Firstly said that online orders are different section of Apple, I then siad that I know of stores who are honouring the discount / offering Apple Care and they went and spoke with manager.
Come back to counter, asked to see proof of the discount (so logged into my order progress) and said no problem.
As i was buying 3 (2 for other colleagues) they put the disount on them as well!
To be honest the service was very good in this shop - no compaints!

Im a relatively Apple newbie I've ordered it online from the Apple store though and it says :
'Estimated Shipping: 28 Sep, 2007
Estimated Delivery: 01 Oct, 2007 - 02 Oct, 2007'
So I guess that is the definite date yeah?
Second thing, off topic but yes or no answer. Im dumb lol, I have loads of songs on my iTunes but no cover art, do I need to sign up to the iStore and get an account by putting in my card details to get the cover art?? Im a bit dubious about putting card details in as it doesnt say where it will be charged but I take it its just for when you buy tunes etc.

1) it's probably not a fixed delivery date (most likely earlier)
2) yes, you have to sign up in itunes but it's free and you don't have to put in your cc number
Not a definite date, or so we've learned so far anyway. It will be before then.
You do have to setup an iTunes account to get cover art, and you will not be charged anything on your card unless you buy a song. However, you can set it up using a Paypal account if your worried.

Ok to the first reply, I tried the account again and yeah it goes to the card details screen because I have 'not used my id with the store yet' so I had to review it.
Thanks though, the next reply confirmed what to do, I will just put in the details and at least I know it's only for buying songs.

Personally im very chuffed to have made the better decision, after seeing the contract charges for the iPhone I will now just settle for a 4gb Ericsson or something!

I'm heading to Glasgow tomorrow so if I can make it in I'll buy a touch and cancel my online order. Hopefully they'll honor the online discount but if not I've got my old non-working 4th gen iPod which I can take in to recycle and get 10% off (that applies in the UK stores as well, right?)
Both 8 and 16Gb versions in stock at Apple Store Brent Cross. They've got display models out for you to play with as well but if you have ANY desire to keep your credit card in your wallet for the love of $Deity don't touch 'em. I only went in to get a refund on my lopsided Nano and came out twenty minutes later with a 16Gb touch and a hole in my bank balance.
