haha, if it ain't broke don't fix it. i usually wait to see the outcome. try it next time and don't blame us.
i dont blame you i blame apple
the wall charger that came with the click wheel ipods only works with the firewire cords...
since the usb cords work for all ipods including my nano... but not the firewire, i ditched the firewire cord to have one less to carry around... i never use the wall charger... now im screwed... they could have issued a warning

im pissed

I delete my old iPod updates as new ones come out but I'm sure somebody on here has an older iPod update so you could revert back to the software version you had before. Or better yet... make a trip down to the apple store :)

i tried old updates..
i cant even mount an ipod to use an old updater... it wont let me do anything until i plug it into a wall charger

a trip down to the apple store means crossing the border and driving 3 hours down to seattle

the registered retailers in vancouver are less than helpful in my experience

Where exactly does it say on this site that its members are required to post every single possible circumstance or outcome for the update? If you want to blame someone blame Apple. I hope the silence in your car is deafening.

where exactly in my post did i blame this site or anybody on it?
APPLE could have posted some warning... no other ipod updater EVER has required this

What type of iPod do you have? I have one of the 2G minis - the first iPod (except for the shuffle) to not come with a wall adapter. When I updated the firmware it did not ask me to plug into a wall charger but to just leave the iPod plugged into the computer whilst it restarted.

I was under the impression that none of the iPods that ship without a power adapter require one for firmware updates? So what type do you have?

click wheel... 4th gen i guess
i have the wall charger... found it in a desk drawer... just dont have the firewire cord... think its plugged into the music server at the cabin for recharging...
i will get it fixed... just sucks to not have it for a road trip

All the other ones I've done on my old 3G required the wall charger, I did at least 2 updates for my mate's 4G and they needed the charger too.

So, you're upset at Apple for making them use something they gave to you?

just updated mines and i didnt use the wall charger i just pluged it back into the dock which is connected to my mac by firewire.

Notice my nano dont hang when moving through different menus...good

Bless

well, yeah
ive never had to use the charger before...
what if you DL'd an os x update and it made you insert the original cd that came with your mac to finish the update and in the meantime your system was locked...

would you have the disk within easy reach?

what if you were on a business trip?

This update broke the backlight on my nano via holding the menu button down. Now when i hold the menu button down it returns to the main menu rather than enabling the backlight. Anyone else have this issue?

Same here. Crap, I like and use that feature.

Mini fixes

Is it documented somewhere what bugs in the Mini are fixed by this update?

Does it break any old features?

Thanks - Greg

I haven't noticed any difference on mine.

Lacero mentioned scrolling titles for long song names but I only get that in the Podcasts menu and that was there before. No reply to my query yet so I don't know what the story is on that front.

Thanks Chundles.

I read through a 7 page thread on iLounge forums and there was no mention of the mini fixes/changes.

Did the fix change the behavior of using the center button to turn on the backlight? Or is that just other models?

Thanks - Greg

Um, I'm not really sure. I have always had my backlight set to a 10 second time-out so it lights up no matter what button I hit.

It's a shame they still haven't added playlist folders. I'm don't see why it was added to iTunes if they weren't going to let you browse the same on the iPod. :(

Chundles said:
Mine doesn't. I only see that in the Podcasts section, are you getting scrolling in other menus too Lacero?
I get scrolling only in Playlists and Podcasts, but none in the rest, like Artists, Albums, Songs, etc.

btw, the mini update goes from 1.4 to 1.4.1

Here's to the Crazy Ones

Ah so, no worries. I actually don't have a playlist that's long enough to scroll.....hah.

I've got the 4th Gen 60GB. This update didn't do much for me. Come on, man. Where the heck are the playlist folders? Where's the lyric support?

harumph.

This has completely ****ed my 60GB iPod 5G. All songs skip, frequent audio distortion and will not play past around 10 seconds in to a track. Have had 4 lock-ups on the way home listening to it too.

Seems there's a major problem with 1.1 on the 5G 60GB models - check out Apple Discussions and iLounge.

If a downgrade doesn't fix it it's going back to Apple.

Yeah so about this update, idk what happened but when I reset after the update, my iPod stopped showing any of my music, even though it was on the iPod (it was showing it had like ~15GB on it, ~3GB free space...

Thing is, right before I updated, I did a spotlight search for a song I didnt have on my PB and copied it off the iPod, among other things... I dunno if it was my tinkering or the update, but I ended up having to restore my iPod (thanks for nothing Harlem World with your good for nothing "I Really Like it" song. Well I hate it!)

this update fixes many things.. specifically with rating songs and what not.. before i would rate songs on my ipod and on my top rated playlist they would not show up until i plugged my ipod into itunes.. now when i rate a song say five stars, it shows up in my top rated playlist on my ipod.:)

You're right, but the exception is the Mini Rev. A as updater doesn't distinguish between the Rev. A that came with a charger and Rev. B that didn't for the purposes of plugging into the wall. I'm not sure whether the colour screen models also allow it to remain connected, (I say this because I can't recall seeing a color version of the plug into mains picture, but it could be in black anyway).

Since we sell these at work, and we get dozens every week bringing back "faulty" iPods that merely need updating, I am fairly used to the process now, even if I can't recall the exact models little differences in updating sometimes.

Wrong. I have ran iPod updaters on most iPods manufactured in the last 18-24 months and the older ones that shipped with power adapters always asked to plug into the wall. If you told us which exact model and revision you have, I could probably tell you straight off whether it will require plugging into the mains. Generally, the reason a lot of the ones that shipped with power adapters still require this is because they haven't had software updates recently, and if so, they are only bug fixes as Apple have better things to waste their time on. If you sold your charger or lost it and then ran updater, I guess it's mainly your fault. Not everybody knows about this step with older iPods, but it's been there pretty much since day one and since you said it's never required it before, you have run one in the past, just probably forgotten about this step.

This is the first time that my 4g ipod didnt asked me to connect the charger after update. Every single update before that it did. So apple must have changed something significant.

btw where can I find those hidden options that someone have posted?

I think I have a 4G iPod (colour screen, released 11 months ago, no video)?

I don't regularly watch photos on my iPod, but yesterday I did, and I noticed a whole heap of transitions between the photos that I don't think were there before (wipes, pushes, etc). Was that there before?

BTW - why can't we watch iPhoto "Slideshows" on the iPod? How come all we can do is watch an album? It's a pain.

Hey everyone!

I updated with the 01-10-2006 ipod updater, everything is OK except one thing, the backlight shortucut

I Used to be able to hold down the menu button for 2seconds and the backlight would turn on manually, and alternativly i would hold it down for 2 seconds again to turn it off manually (so no need to have backlight timer on in settings).

But NOW it doesn't work  Any Idea's on how to get it to work?

Thanks in advance!
