No it doesn't. All 4 of the imitations look like fakes, the original is a lot more complex and convincing - if it is a fake its a much better one.

I agree, the original seems to be the most genuine of the five. Either its real or the person just put a lot more time into it then the 4 copycats.

I agree. You can tell that a great deal of thought and planning went into the original "Sticky" if it is, indeed, a fake.

Practicality of screen size.

My rough experiments (holding my 4G up to my face) show that an all-screen iPod like this, with the SAME dimensions as a 5G (and 4G), held 18" away from your eyes, would give you an image just as big in your field of view as a 24" TV 8 feet away. Not bad at all.

Then I decided to measure how big my current TV looks to my eye, compared with a ruler held 18" in front of me. At the two places where I normally sit, my ~21" TV looks only 1.25 to 2.5 inches across! It never seemed that small to me, but big-and-far (OK, medium-and-far) can give you the same image as small-and-near.

(Far is easier on the eyes, though, an hides the pixels.)

I bet Steve Jobs is laughing right now. Its all a hoax and there wont even be a new ipod at the event tuesday.
I think there may well be no iPod on Tuesday (Shuffles seem most likely if anything) but if there IS, and this is it, think how bad we have made Steve feel by spoiling his surprise :(

Handy is a fake for certain. Woody feels fake to me too--but is it true that someone owned up to it? Is that link the creator admitting it's fake? I thought it was just a link to someone ELSE showing how it COULD be fake. The animated GIF 5G doesn't line up with the widescreen version perfectly, as it would if it was the creator showing their actual Photoshop work. The translation is awkward so I'm not sure what he's saying.

How do you plan on holding it 18" away from your face to watch a hour long tv show or movie? Sounds torturous!

You might be right, I couldn't understand it perfectly either. I took it to mean he was suggesting this is something he made in 5 minutes. I didn't see any flaw in the GIF demonstration but i'll have a closer look.

Where on that device are you supposed to plug in the cable that jacks into the matrix port on the back of my skull?

I am sure Apple will sell an adapter for this. I mean no video player would be complete without us being to jack into it and live the moive!

'handy' is a fake.

Cool. I think the dock cord looks kinda shabby.

That's the giveaway for me. I call fake. It's more likely a wireless digital photo frame of some kind.

No way this is an iPod.

With two images debunked and that dodgy cord & barcode in the initial photo, I'm leaning towards this whole thing being a fake. It's a shame though, Apple really should come out with a product like this.

in doing a close zoom of this photo, i've determined that it is indeed an 8 and not a B. I am 99% sure this is FAKE. Do you honestly think Apple would develop something that big and bulky looking?

I don't think it looks bulky at all. It's just like a regular iPod, but the whole thing is the screen. As for the power cord, this was dicussed many pages back, but I'll bring it up here again. This is probably just a prototype or 3rd party cord that they use in the factory. They don't want a flimsy Apple cord for testing.

EDIT: It's a B...I am 99.9 percent sure that it's a B. The left side is obviously flatter than the right.

The cord is not a dead giveaway.

We're missing something obvious here...

The picture has been up online for, what, over 24 hours now?

No one has heard a peep from Apple legal?

I'm taking that to mean fake.

Enjoy your Tuesday!

Good point actually. However it might be Apple have changed their tactics with this Apple legal business since in the past it has given rumor sites confirmation that the product is real. Perhaps they prefer to leave a mystery for us.

Very good point.

Or maybe they realize that being out so long, there are undoubtedly thousands of copies of the image around the internet now, and to pull just one or two would reveal to all of us that it was real. After which, individuals could post their pictures wth confirmation from apple that it was not a fake.

EDIT: Damn, TMA. Great minds, I guess.

Why would Apple legal do something like that?

If it is fake, then of course they wouldn't touch it. But I think if it is REAL they won't touch it either, because as of now no one knows for sure this picture is real. The second Apple legal moves in, we know it is real and the cat is out of the bag.

So I believe that even if the first picture is real Apple legal would not move in and make sites remove the picture because that would only do more damage for Apple and let the whole world know that the picture is in fact real.

Or maybe they don't care? Like I say, it could very well look so much like the real thing and yet still be fake, so maybe it's a toughie. Even if it were real, why should they care to block something like this?

Lap, desk, hands, or whatever... 18" is about how far away a portable device is while in use. Portable devices won't replace movie theaters, obviously. But they can provide a viewfield similar in size to home TVs--that's what I was surprised to discover.
