People forget things like stores like Target that use these as handheld computers. They certainly don't need to be iPhones!
The hospital I work at is about to adopt iPod touches / iPhone. More so iPod touches for use later this year. It would be sweet if they update them with better underhood specs.

Exactly. They don't need to be iPhones unless they need the phone function or leave the campus.

Lowe's uses iPhones in their stores but they got rid of store phones and have every employee there use these.

Wish I bought a iPod Classic before they stopped being produced. The purpose to have all my music offline and in my bag ready. On eBay their prices are quite high for new & sealed.

I wish I had picked up a new one, too!! Mine was stolen a couple years ago  But I found a used one on Mercari for only $70! It has a couple small dings, but works perfectly!

Shuffle: $50 to play music.
Nano: $100 upgrade to view pictures and videos on crappy screen with crappy storage.
Touch: $50 upgrade to get a much better screen, a web browser, and the entire freaking app store.

I don't understand the point of the Nano existing. Who is buying it? Is it a mistake that they're buying it? (IE, do they think it's just a cheaper iPod Touch?)
It's SMALLER!

Hopefully they wont update just the colors, iPod touch needs a new processor. And nano needs a new price. It costs 170-180€ here, and I don't think many people would buy it at this price.

Yeah, but if size was your major concern, wouldn't you just go for the shuffle? Have you actually tried using the Nano? It strikes me as having too small of a screen to actually be particularly useful (much like the Apple Watch...)

Yeah, I meant to not repeat that and just say gold.
If there were to be an option for a black bezel (instead of white) I'd seriously consider the gold.

I find the 7th gen Nano screen to be a fine size. My 6th gen Nano screen is a bit small.

Do people still use iPods?
Exactly! Better to just buy a used iPhone 5/5S. And if you're not too suck in the Apple ecosystem you can buy a Moto G for $20 and best buy will give you $25 back in the form of a gift certificate today. You're making money on the deal.
In the last month I bought 3 prepaid phones for a total of $60. One I use when I don't want to carry my Note 4 due to size, one to experience windows 10 and the other just to play around with. Last year I got a Moto E for $10.

Rebrand the iPod touch as the iPad nano in 4.7" & 5.5" sizes. Done. That'd reenergize the iPod touch. Also give it the best camera available, even better than the iPhone. And market it as the perfect tool for travel photogs.

It's meant to be used with your thumb, which is easy to do.

Here is it next to the 5th gen iPod Touch (it's running Ecoute, but still fair to compare). Look at the list of songs compared to the buttons on the Nano's screen. If you're looking through songs on the Nano, they have much wider spaces for you to click on too so you can't hit something you didn't mean to.

Well its not going to have touch id or at least the pictures don't show that. My guess is the colors are gonna get updated and maybe the capacity. I don't think there will be any other changes besides that.

Update: Several observers have pointed to the Calendar icon on the iPod touch screenshot showing a date of Tuesday the 14th, leading to speculation the new models could launch on Tuesday, July 14.

According to my sources, the new iPods are going to launch in Lavender, Mahogany, and White on the 28th if Paul McCartney is still alive.

It's still a valid product (iPod Touch), and is a gateway product for some people.

Example: the remote app for households that have an Apple TV but no Mac or iPhone. iPod Touch is cheaper, than the iPhone, and can run other iOS apps, for lower entry cost. Getting one used or refurbished would be even cheaper.

With that in mind, I would think it would be in Apple's best interests to keep the iPod Touch alive in some way, at least until they're reach world domination. At that point, I wouldn't care because we'd all be f'd anyway.

Would be crazy to update after 3 years and only update that. 3 years in technology is huge!

I know a lot of people that are going to be very happy if they refresh the specs of the iPod line.

If they only change colors though, I know those same people will be very disappointed.

I hope they put in a new chip at least. My ipod is kind of sluggish with certain games like Breath of Life (or whatever it's called).
