I got so tired of waiting and i bought a refurbished 10GB on sunday, it shipped on monday and should be here by the end of the week. And i doubt we will see any updates any time soon, the apple stores here in denver have massive amounts of all the iPods. Maybe there will be a price drop and iTunes 4 (AAC)!!!

Just remember if AAC support is added it should be nothing more then a software update.

The Soho Apple store had 5 gb ipods as well - if they go on sale online, I don't think an update is coming anytime soon. Where did the stock og 5 gb ipods come from?

I know how you feel mike cause i've been ridiculed too. I just couldn't wait anyl longer. I honeslty don't give a rat's ass what they release next. I just hope i don't regret this.

Hi there, I called the Spanish Apple Store last night, just to check, and they told me they have 10 GB Windows iPods. I forgot yo ask about the 5 GB ones.
... Anyway, their shipping times have changed from 4-6 weeks to 1-3 days (!!!). So maybe I am getting my dreamed iPod at last. I am pretty tired of waiting; I was supposed to have it since January, for crying out loud! :)

The downside is, they told me I only have 10 days to return it (and I think they told me about a 10% restocking fee, but I'm not quite sure about that). Do you americans have the same time to return your iPods? Just 10 days?

Damn! I just remembered I forgot to ask about warranty!

(fantasizing about having my iPod... at last)

10 days sounds about right. Though here in the states it really depends on where you purchase it. If I were to buy one from a major electronics superstore the return policy would be 15-30days (depending on the store) and it's a satisfaction guarantee.

I have resigned myself to the first week of April being the release date. I can't see them putting it off any longer then that.

If they are trying to get rid of existing models why don't they just price drop now, and release the higher capacity and the revisions later? This is the part I don't understand.

You could get a refurb 10gb for $329 right now. I wonder if they will drop prices further than that when they release the new ones anyway.

So which Tuesday??

I think we should start a poll ( I wanted it to be a pool but I'm sure that would violate some stupid gambiling laws) to see which Tuesday the new iPod comes out. :D

My pick would be April 22nd... for no particular reason...
I'm kind of curious to see if anybody thinks Apple will bring out iPods on April Fools ;)

What's your guess?

March 18 has been my prediction for a while, but its not looking good. Does apple care if about a war enough to postpone products? I dunno, i sure don't. Oh, well, we'll just have to wait it out.

iPods Secondary...

Again...I think many of you have missed some important clues.

With the impending announcement of the new Apple Music Service, an announcement of new iPods is secondary to that. In other words, Apple will wait to announce new iPods until they are ready to announce/launch the new music service.

It is very likely that the iPods are ready to go at any time, but Apple will seek to gain maximum exposure for their announcement of the new music service, and that will mean that they likely will announce new iPods on that same day. New iPods will not be announced quietly by a mere update on the Apple site...

This entire announcement will be visible...meaning Apple will create a media event of some sort, or wait to announce this at an appropriate event at which Apple is already scheduled.

My guess is that this new music service could entail some significant delays...it sounds as though they are still negotiating terms.

But then again, there was the recent announcement that Quicktime will be updated in the next few weeks (I also believe an updated quicktime will be part of this new music service). So, put together the time-frame for the new music service, new quicktime, and new iPods, and I think we are looking at a few weeks still...

My guess? Mid May to early June.

1) The Imminence of War - why compete with this front page news that could happen at any moment.

2) The New Music Download Thing (this rumor better D@MN be true after all that's been said about it in news groups and all the way up to big newspapers. If it's true, then deals with record companies need to be in perfect order and things have to be timed just perfectly with the right attention paid to WHY, WHEN and HOW.

3) New Design with New Features (hopefully) - I think right now, Apple is feeling the NEW IMAC pressures of late-shipping with the 17" PowerBook (I'm waiting on mine and growing impatient - mine's prepurchased so I have no choice but to wait). If Apple has come up with the next generation look for the Ipod, they probably don't want to announce it and then get people to head elsewhere due to impatience.

We got to remember that we have only the Rumor mills for being impatient on the next Ipod. Apple has breathed a word about new 'pods and so it's kind of our fault if we're getting antsy. I think for those that wait - it'll certainly be well worth it.

Apple does not have 5 gigs on sale. In January I couldn't get a hold of any model.

Is this the fault of the "rumour mill"?

I see your point, however, I don't believe a price drop would be front page news to compete with news on the war.

Price drops on existing models would reduce stock if there were to be a significant revision (i.e. aac support, a new slim 20GB) when the music service comes out. I don't understand why price drops are out of the question; it would give people who wanted 5GB models (which until recently have been out of stock) the opportunity to pick up a 10GB model for the same price.

what do you think the timetable for the music service release/ipod update would be?

well i nearly caved in and almost bought a 10gb iPod at my local Best Buy. i called them and they only had one mac iPod available, and i was about to drive over there to get it, but i changed my mind.

i don't know if this has happened at other Best Buys, but last week, the 10gb and 20gb iPods were on sale (both in the store and at bestbuy.com)...i remember the 10gb was only around $374, but now the price is back to $399.
