What if two different things are playing at the same time?

This wouldn't work at all with my family.

But hey you can enjoy your fire stick if you want. I wouldn't ever own one personally.
Like I said already, I don't like the Firesticks. They are slow and the UI sucks, but I was just explaining why people get them over the relatively expensive ATV4K.

I own both both the ATV4 and the ATV4K. I can't tell the difference in performance between them for streaming on Youtube, Netflix, Prime Video, DAZN, Tubi, Crave (Canadian service carrying HBO), or AppleTV app. Obviously one I use on my 4K TV and one on my 1080p TV. I don't game or do any other more esoteric applications so I can't comment on performance with other kinds of apps. Also own a Roku 4K streaming stick for the bedroom as it is dirt cheap: works OK but performance compared to the ATV4 is bad, more buffering, significantly longer load times, etc. Long story short I'm not sure a more powerful Apple TV is even necessary other than if being used for gaming.

I've seen a lot of people comment on cost and how you can get a smart TV for the price of two apple TVs: this is true, but remember for a lot of those brands (TCL, Vizio, etc) cost of the TV is offset by cobranding agreements (thats why you have a netflix button on the remote, etc) and also because if you use the "smart" features the TVs mine your data and sell it. To each his own, but I'd rather pay a bit more for standalone box (or a better TV with a better OS like an LG).

I've played around a little with my iPad Pro and sidecar - I would love for the new Apple TV to allow for the same sidecar resolution and limited delay for any screen. With a powerful A 12, 13, or 14 chip on board the Apple TV by itself could become a powerful living room computer.

Do you use PLex, I have noticed recently on my Apple Tv hd that when I watch start a plex video, then leave the app and come back and resume, the video is choppy for a few seconds, I hope that is not the case with the The 4K version

They are getting better. The first one I bought was horrendously slow but the 4K one I just picked up is quite quick, especially with the voice search.

The A12 isn't really improvement over the A10X, but the others would be.

the Apple TV by itself could become a powerful living room computer.
The A10X is already a way overpowered for a streaming box. It could be much more, but Apple pays little attention to it.

I have both and Plex. I will test it in a little bit to see if I get a similar result.

It is probably just another one of the tvOS 13 bugs. tvOS 13 ended up being a pretty big turd. I am really unsure why they can't get the bugs figured out, tvOS has hardly changed since its launch but every years we get a new tvOS version number.

No sorry I don’t use Plex so can’t comment.

Interesting thought - in a few years will the Apple Silicon Mac Mini just be an AppleTV option (or vice versa)?

Wasn't there a story recently that the Apple Tv and Home pod teams have been merged? An Apple tv with a speaker coming, what could this mean?
They’ve started to use TVOS on the HomePod instead on iOS. It makes sense as these devices are always plugged in and they don’t have the need for the battery management of iOS for example. A combined product would be great however, I’d be in for that.

my receivers second zone can work on a different device as the main device. Most 1000$+ receivers will be able to do this. Keep all your devices in one spot and run wiring for the rooms. Its nice having my ps4, 4k blu ray player and shield in my room. Been doing this for 10+ years now.

I understand people like cheap even if they work like crap. Most people don't put any thought into their home setups and just want a streaming dongle that does the bare minimum. People that look into the 100-200$ range of devices tend to want to do more with their experience. Most people I know with fire sticks are using the tv's speakers or a sounder obviously. The two go hand to hand.
Also, most people don't understand all the things you can do with an appletv if you have other apple devices. They just see an expensive streaming box and don't get why it costs more.

Does Amazon have anything similiar to Apple where yuo can view your own photos as a screensaver? and is there any podcast apps?

I asked Alexa for screensavers and it showed me a bunch of screensaver apps. The Amazon Photos one says you can display your photos. I asked it to play the Serial podcast and it did via Amazon Music.

I think you are talking about something totally different than what I and many others need.

Maybe you missed a post:
In the US it is very common to have multiple TVs in a home. If the choice is between buying an ATV4K or Firestick 4K, a multi-TV home could be fully equipped with streaming devices for the price of one ATV4K.
Run cables to each room and have main devices then. I control all my living room devices in my bedroom with one HDMI cable.

If I am following you correctly, you are talking about using a device like the ATV that is in your living room, and playing or displaying it elsewhere in your home. This would not work for most families.

I have six people in my family, and this requires multiple devices, not just one to serve the whole house.

I am unsure if you are in the US, but it is very common to have multiple TVs throughout a US household especially with a large family. If you have four TVs, and want to watch four different things at the same time, then you would need multiple streaming devices.

Using one device for all TVs just wouldn't work unless everyone wanted to watch the same exact thing.

In my home currently, I have an ATV4k, ATV4, FireTV 4K, and Firestick. I would prefer to have all ATV4K, but then you are talking about $800+. Or, I have the ATV4K on my main TV, and use the old ATV4 on another one, and much cheaper devices for my kids. Everything is just a fraction of the price of getting all ATV4Ks.

I understand people like cheap even if they work like crap.
Well, "crap" is subjective.

I told you before that I prefer the ATV4K over the competition, but it is easy to see why the cheaper alternatives are more popular, as they can basically do everything that the ATV currently does.

Not as fast, and not as nice, but performs adequately for what they are looking for.

It is like getting an expensive sports car to get groceries twice a week. Yeah, it is faster, nice looking, and more fun to use, but maybe not worth that price foe what it is being used for.

They just see an expensive streaming box and don't get why it costs more.
This is Apple's fault. Maybe the Apple TV 4K would sell more if they would give it a little more attention.

In a months time, I see more advertising for Apple TV+ shows than I have ever seen for the Apple TV since its launch in 2007. It would be nice if Apple cared more about the ATV4k, then maybe it would be more than just an overpowered, but overpriced streaming box.

Got the Roku stream stick last night and set it up in like 30 minutes. What a joy compared to the Apple TV!

All I’m saying is that you can use multiple devices on one receiver for different rooms. 6 rooms no but that’s if everyone wants to use the same thing. I’ve always have two main areas for devices and ran long Hdmi cables into different rooms. Been doing this 2008. With 6 people I’d have to do things differently but I wouldnt need 6 devices for that many rooms depending on what people use more.
firesticks are fine for kids and people that don’t care much I understand that and that’s why they are 40$.
I wouldn’t say an Appletv4k is a sports car you only use twice a week. Depends on the person once again as I use mine daily as well as my shield. I sideload kodi onto my appletv too and have emulators from all kinds of old systems on it. It’s more capable of things if you dig deeper.150-200$ to me isn’t anything expensive again. These are cheap in my eyes.

It’s been a crazy year and I suspect that if iPhone refresh could possibly be delayed then the Apple TV will certainly be delayed.

I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger on a remote-less 4k on ebay for ~$100 USD. I have a harmony hub that would control the ATV anyway, so it seems like best of all worlds. I just wish i could get something new-ish that wasn't in limbo.

As for an upgrade, I think this is going to come silently in a press release, at some point - the hardware and functionality movements won't be enough to garner wows, so they won't wait for a keynote.
