blazing download
When I first purchased the iPhone 3G, I was apprehensive because expectations had built up to a plateau where it seemed insurmountable - an own goal, in my opinion. Totally relate to the OP's feeling of anxiety before excitement when using the iPhone. I share my experiences.
After upgrade to 2.1, I noticed that 3G connection is seamless. Perhaps that could be due to the small size of my resident country and many base stations so transmission of 3G signal is pervasive. Even when I'm on the underground tram commuting, 3G signal is a minimum of 3 bars. I subscribe to a 1MBS downstream service - I emailed a 4 photos to myself, each nearing 5MB, hence almost hitting the 20MB attachment limit for gmail. As I opened the mail, and I hit all the attachments to download (they cant download simultaneously), it takes me about, say, 45 secs, max 1 min, to finish downloading all of the 20MBs. However, perhaps due to the processor, I cant view all of the 4 photos in that mail and there is occasional freezing.
Bluetooth connection is seamless. In fact I get the feeling iPhone's basically begging to be synced, such is the ease. No matter which I power on first, the iPhone of the Jawbone, the connection is always automatic and in the 3 mths, I've yet to experience a single dropped call or dropped connection (within reasonable distance of 20 feet). I clock on average say 500 - 700 minutes talk time / mth, mostly with the Jawbone.
With approximately 3 GB of free capacity, where the rest is around 7 GIG of mp3's, 3 GIG of movie content, and say 500 MB's of photos, back up + syncing time takes for me not longer than 5-7 mins. iPhone is set to automatic sync, hence back up is a daily affair whenever I charge via USB to my MB. The only time it took longer was upgrade to 2.1, when the entire process + sync took around 1.5 hrs.
The only gripe, well, really is the battery. Hopefully the battery pack I purchased from FastMac will solve the issue.
