I personally can't stand the thing anymore and i'm waiting on the Pre. I loved/love the original phone but the 3G (both hardware & software) needs some fine tuning....some serious fine tuning
Seems like most of the recent smartphones (iPhone, google's Android, BlackBerry's Storm) have launched needing some serious fine tuning.

Hopefully Palm has figured out something magical to make the Pre not have to go thru that tuning period, but I'm kinda thinking it's going to have the same growing pains as its competition did.

It's funny, but I just said the same thing today that you said after your first purchase! I've said for a while that if I needed to use my smartphone for business, I'd have a Blackberry. But, today I realized that my iPhone does everything I could possibly want from a smartphone, and does it better than any other phone I've seen. So, no, I'm not dissatisfied at all. The iPhone does more than I ever expected.

Apple's insistance on attempting to revolutionize the world with Quicktime.

I knew perfectly well what I was getting into when purchasing an iPhone so I have sucked it up but I would still like to see Apple let some of the media players through in the App Store.

It is a flashy piece of hardware with some good apps. I'd still like to see more though.

I wasn't as excited as I was when I first got my original iPhone, probably because that was just such a completely huge step up from any other phone interface I had used before. iPhone 3G was just more of an upgrade really, so I didn't get as excited.

I have found 3G to change quite a lot depending on where you are. Example...using 3G in Ipswich and Chelmsford is pretty quick, but using it in Colchester always seems slower. Colchester is a slightly larger place so there are probably more people using the network. I also noticed MobileMe was usually quite slow at email, ever since I have started using Gmail it has been much quicker, probably because Google servers are better than Apple's. Also, 3G seems to be quicker in the native apps. I use Twinkle and Facebook pretty regularly and both seem pretty slow, although Facebook has improved. Although, MyRail Lite and Mobile Fotos are two really fluid apps which hardly lag at all, so it must be poorly designed apps.

It seems stable as well. I have it on 24/7 and use it pretty regularly throughout the day and haven't had to restore it yet. OTA syncing means I pretty much never connect to my Mac anymore apart from when I want to add new music.

With 2.2.1 battery life has improved and Safari seems a lot more stable than it was before.

I wouldnt put it as strongly as the thread title

I am getting fed up with having to use workarounds for features that are either missing or broke

I still like my iPhone, but if the bugs/missing features are not fixed by the time of the next phone I might not buy another

This is true... I'm not that computer savy but I think if you upgrade the bios for a mac you could run Mac X on a dell computer.. I'm not sure excatly how it works but the only thing different from a mac and a dell is the operating system... So why does the Mac cost so much more? Is it for the stability to the ease of use? I love how everything just works together the way thing should but I think for a mid level laptop $2000 is a lot to spend.. For that price I could buy a high level gaming laptop..

I love how my phone works and how easy it is to sync and whatnot, but I think this is Apple bread and butter and they dropped the ball in the first quarter of the game and right now it's halftime.... I hope they really have something better for us in the second half or it might be game over...

With that said WITHOUT A DOUBT the touch screen on the iphone is the best there is... I've tried alot of other touch screen's and they just don't work as well as this one..

This is just my opinion...

I totally agree. I think Apple has kinda sat back and watched the iPhone take off, which is great, but they kinda need to step back in. Its still the best phone I've ever had, but then my dad still refuses to let me buy him one because of the features.

And if Vista wasn't so bad, I'd be writing on a PC at the moment. Macs are just too much now, I think.

Yes, but for many people, their time is valuable enough that the cost of downgrading to XP ('cause let's face it -- Vista is a POS), finding drivers, setting up the OS, installing anti-virus programs, installing anti-spyware software, remembering to keep said software up to date, and tolerating the performance degradation that is common with Windows just isn't worth it.

If I get paid $20/hr, 30 hours of installation, configuration, rebooting, and other hassles can make a PC a more expensive proposition than a Mac.

If I get paid $40/hr, it only takes 15 hours.

It all depends on how much your time is worth. For many people, myself included, it's worth enough that using an OS that stays out of my way is worth the difference in up front costs.

Supremely happy

I'm very happy with my iPhone. I've got ePocrates that I use frequently during the day. I've got medcalc that I use as well. The calendar function keeps my schedule straight. I picked up mobile me so I can keep all my devices synced. This has worked out well for me. I also maintain a public folder full of very useful medical articles for myself and other residents.

Driving to and from work, I use my iPhone to listen to audiobooks or music. I've got Ultimate Ears 4vi ear buds so the sound is awesome. The best I've ever heard from ear buds. I'm not an audiophile so I'm sure there are better. But for my purposes, it is way better than the Apple earbuds that come with the iPhone.

When I've got downtime at work, I jump online to take a look at my email.

Nurses at work or the secretaries always want to know what's going on with the kid. So, I just whip out the phone and show them up to date pictures.

When my 17 month old girl is being fussy in the car, I just hand her my iPhone with Madagascar playing. That always seem to capture her attention. Last week, I showed one of the guys a few minutes of Chris Rock's "Kill The Messenger".

Just today, I used a recipes program to give me some ideas on some new chicken breast recipes.

A few weeks ago, I used the GPS function on it to help me find my way around Orlando. I even used it to find restaurants.

One thing I wish it did have but I doubt Apple would ever add this feature, is the ability to expand using a Micro-SD card. How big do they come now? 8 gb? I've got friends that send me MMS all the time. Wish I could view those as well. (I'm too lazy to log on to the website just to view them) Hopefully, Apple will eventually allow us to store files on the iPhone, open up a program to view them or work on them. For now, even viewing various files without having to go through the viewer in email would suffice. Longer battery life too would be great.

I'm confident that most, if not all the features people are looking for will eventually make their way to the iPhone. People forget that Apple has had this device out for what, 2 years? Nokia and Blackberry have been at this game for how many? So for Apple to garner a 28% marketshare in SmartPhones in the US and I believe 9% worldwide (please correct me if I'm wrong) is pretty amazing and I'm sure has the competitors worried.

Is this the best device out there? I don't know. It's the only one I've really used. Does it suit my purposes? Yes, it does. For the people whining and moaning about the picture quality or the lack of video, go buy a digital SLR and a HD camcorder.

I love my Iphone, after having it since July 11th I still can't get enough of it.

Not dissapointed in the slightest.

Best Piece of Technology Ever

It just is. Nothing else comes close for its size.

Does it have limitations? Of course and they are well documented.

However, most can be overcome with a jailbreak.

And nothing else is even close. My neighbor has a Blackberry, and regardless of what those Black addicts will publicly admit-he has iPhone envy.

The single best feature is the OS-X for iPhone. While my phone does crash or hang occasionally, the OS integration is so complete and runs so fast, I can overlook the very rare problems I have.

Having a real web browser is a plus too. The browser on my neighbor's blackberry pales in comparison-if we could just get flash :)

:apple:

While there are times that my iPhone does really disappoint me.. like when i dropped it and got a 1 inch crack on the digitizer, and apple told me it would be $299.. Or when 3G is pulling all three g's..

But then I remind my self of my old phones and how terrible they were.. Out of the 7 or 8 cell phones ive owned ive only ever been happy with 2 of them before the iphone.. One was an original greyscale nokia that everyone had.. (SNAKE 2 FTW!!!) and the other was a LG which actually let me read txt msg's on the front screen.. (I know, I know: 1337)..

But when I say I was please, I mean that I didnt hate them, not I felt bad when switching to a new phone. The iPhone is truley the first phone that I enjoy (for the most part XD XD XD)

The thing i hate most about this phone is the damn touchscreen and the huge screen and the fact that it can do basically anyhting I want it to do... I mean.. what the hell is :apple: thinking, making a phone like this! Idiots! :p

Let me guess... you decided to post this on the 31st day of having it right?

i understand what you mean COMPLETELY

lemme tell you.. when the first iPhone came out i was SOO excited. everyday i felt like i was learning something new.

when news about the 3G started trickling in i was excited about that as well. however, when i got the 3G i found myself not as excited as i should've been.

i definitely don't find the same enjoyment in my 3G as i did with my original, it just doesn't have the same spark.

Had both iPhones on each release day, and I didnt/havnt lost interest in either.

still very happy with it.

v.1.xx of the iPhone OS was faster than the V.2.xx on the iPhone 3G, my friend has actually gone back to his 2G phone because of this.. Navigating menus was a lot faster.

True...but one can hope

Personally I am COMPLETELY disgusted

Not sure if I am more fed up with the iPhone or with ATT. The phone itself is not so bad, but to me it lacks features like REAL GPS navigation to make it ideal. But I HATE . .repeat I HATE ATT and APPLE. They treat the phone like it is the holy grail. Can I but loss insurance? . ."Oh. .no. ..not on the 'iPhone' " can I buy an extended warranty? . . ."Oh.. .no. ..not in the 'iPhone'". . . May I lay it on a mink pillow? . . . "Oh. . please. . .feel free. . it is after all. . . "the iPhone' ". We have no one to blame but ourselves for this. As a public we act as if the thing came straight from heaven above. IT'S A P-H-O-N-E !!!!! When we quit acting like a bunch of street urchins with the newest fandangled toy on the block, then Aaple and ATT will start treating their customers with a little respect. The whole way the first generation was introduced with the price manipulations, then the early release of the 3G so soon after which was a definite upgrade but with all of us tied to 2 year contracts on the 2G . ..it all STINKS !!! I lost my 2G iPhone this past weekend. I am going back to my old cingular phone until my contract is fulfilled. ATT will NEVER see a penny from me after that.

So you signed up to post this useless post.

I don't own an iPhone but I have an iPod Touch and have used friends iPhones. I have an HTC Touch for my phone on Sprint and while Sprint service is great, I hate using my phone. Sometimes I go to use GPS and it won't get a lock, even if I reset on a perfectly clear day. Sometimes the onscreen keyboard just stops responding for a second or two in between letters, so typing a quick text takes 10 minutes. The phone randomly freezes when bringing up contacts. That being said, i'm upgrading to the new iPhone when it comes out.
