its easy to upgrade the SSD to 512GB or 1TB.I'm on the 2014 MBP and would like an upgrade, (256GB is killing me).

How much more was the 2018 option considering it has got the touch bar.I yesterday (!) ordered a 2017 13“ BTO 16GB/512GB/nTB, because I didnt see that coming...
I now canceled the order and ordered 13“ 16GB/512GB/TB because of: 3rd gen butterfly keyboard, bigger battery, 8th generation i5 quad core and the true–tone–display, which is also new!
If Graphics was better then yes, same 2017 crap 560 rebrand
$6,699.00 well spentI'm excited. I got a fully loaded 15". I am always scraping up against the 2TB SSD, and I want 32GB for photo editing etc., so this is perfect for me.

You are crazy. Get a smaller SSD (even 1TB or 2TB) and get an external drive for 1/10th the cost.
Hey, if it works for cognitivefun, why the carping? Having to carry anything outside of the laptop is a bloody nuisance, and is one more failure point.
It fits the use case, so why not? Expensive? Perhaps to some, but if it works, so what?
I was joking around. I see how you left out the joke at the end. I get it works for some people. Don't selectively quote someone without taking in the full context.
Sorry, that wasn't "joking," that was simply envy.

most of the folks who complain about features wont end up buying any machines in near term. People are happy with what available in store. so, this disappointment is just in forum, you want proof? look at the sales numbers.
some folks just want a computer..
You do know you can trade it in for credit. No I am going to stick with my current MBP 15" mid 2014 my first MBP was 2010 17" still mis it.
the last year and current MBP are way too expensive and luck of ports that I wish they have
if I going to spend more then $3000 again I will consider a Lenovo Thinkpad workstation
I like my MBP but few think that I use dont work on Apple
That’s I’m doing 512 SSD and I have a 2TB External drive that was like 80$You are crazy. Get a smaller SSD (even 1TB or 2TB) and get an external drive for 1/10th the cost. But hey... if you have tons of cash lying around I am sure some of us around here wouldn't mind you sharing?![]()
what will be the deciding factor? benchmarks or something else?I'm excited. Just trying to decide between the i5 and i7
I've had (2) 2016 MBPt 15' and (1) 2017 MBPt 15' and they've all had major issues.
#1 - 2016 MBPt 15" 2.7ghz/512GB purchased on 11/17/2016 was taken to the Apple store on 12/30/2016 for service. They determined that the logic board had gone and refunded my purchase price. This was just outside of the return period. The issues were an occasional "pop" noise that turned into an often explosive "pop" or "crack" sound. They keys on the keyboard would not always function or wouldn't function. The USB-C ports would randomly eject the power cord of USB dongles. The noises and ejecting of the USB-C cords would occur on a desk so the computer was not being moved. The touchpad would not work in certain locations.
#2 - 2016 MBPt 15" 2.7ghz/512GB was purchased on 12/30/2016 when I returned the one above. All was well for 5 months and then all of the same issues with #1 started to occur. This time it wasn't gradual but all of a sudden and the symptoms were much worse. This computer was taken to the Apple store on 07/25/2017 and the issues were replicated and the computer was sent to Apple for repair. The tech noted that the computer showed no signs of damage and was in flawless condition! Apple returned the computer with a new logic board and processor and replaced the display assembly.
#3 - 2017 MBPt 15" 3.1ghz/1TB/RP 560 4 GB was purchased on 07/12/2017 in anticipation of sending back #2 and then selling it on Craigslist. All of the same problems with computers #1 & #2 occurred with this computer and it was taken to the Apple Store on 11/14/2017 and the tech was able to replicate the issues. He also noted that there was no damage to the computer and it was in flawless like new condition. The computer was sent off to Apple for repair and returned says that the display assembly was replaced due to a built in audio device problem and the top case with battery was also replaced due to specific keys not working. Here I sit on 07/13/2018 and the computer needs to go back to Apple. The noise has returned; the touchpad is starting to not work in locations and the USB-C plugs have been acting up since Apple returned it to me the first time. Two new issues are that the display all of a sudden got dimmer and cannot be turned back up to it's original level and occasionally I will be using it and the whole tone and color gamut of the display will suddenly change. For the haters, I keep the "Automatically adjust brightness" and Night Shift turned off. I've reset the SMC, NVRAM/PRAM and repaired permissions with no luck in these issues changing.
Apple is an arrogant company who's favorite tactic is to deny-deny-deny. Unfortunately I'm stuck in the Apple ecosystem as I own a 2017 iMac 27" 4.2ghz; iPhone X 256GB and iPad Air 2. I don't trust my MBPt so I guess I will loose some more money and buy a 2018 version and sell the old one. My hope is that with so much moving off the logic board to the T2 chip that a lot of the design issues will be gone and that hopefully the new keyboard will be an improvement? I had issue with the keyboard on my MBPr even though I weekly blew it out with compressed air. There were times I had to take the keys off and disassemble the hinge system and then reassemble it.
