No.

They'll probably talk up iOS 6 a lot to make it seem like the iPhone 5 has more to offer than just a speed bump and modest lengthening of display. They did the same thing when they unveiled the disappointing 4S.

95% of iOS 6 will be available on the 4S too though but they won't trumpet that fact.

So, iPhone 5 = speed bump and slightly taller display.

Whoop de frickin' doo.

I excited about the huge app sales spike that comes with new hardware releases does that count? :)

I'm pretty excited about a taller screen but I do think they could have gone wider too.

Yeah what is wrong with a modest bump in width as well? I use my phone in portrait mode 95% of the time so the added height may end up being more of a liability, then benefit. If I had to choose I would have gone with a slightly squat wider phone.

Wish we had at least one or two more shapes to choose from.

Hardware: No not really.
Software: If it will indeed get an A5X, we will see a whole new and different side of iOS6.

Comparing the iOS with the android so far, i don't think the ip5 gonna have major bump on hardware.

Meanwhile on the other hand, the android, with all those widgets and etc. At first, it was indeed laggy, because the hardware wasn't just there yet. But now? With all the quad core, crazy bump 2 gb on the RAM? Holy crap! It does look and is running smooth. Take example the SIII and the upcoming LG Optimus G, wow just wow.

Apple needs to be bold now, not just in legal action but also in developing the actual technology. They need to let their customers having more customization, not just wallpaper and home lock screen picture. Example : Widgets, they need to start developing iOS that allow widgets, because that will give each iphone user independence on how their iphone should look and function.
A business man might need to see how his stock is doing in real time, or checking his appointment with just unlock the phone and then "ah there it is"
Or maybe a student, who loves to see youtube video can just search using the youtube widget, showing small video result, tap on it and it will go to fullscreen automaticly.
Or for someone who loves the original iOS look, they can just remove the widget, as simple as that.

Only then Apple will realize that incremental and sufficient bump on the battery capacity, RAM, processor and also software overhaul are indeed needed. Just like what is now happening with Blackberry in prepare of Blackberry 10 and it's look as if they are starting from scratch. And they are actually doing it just fine.

Meanwhile Android, open source, many users actually helping in developing it, like cyanogen, or any other trial and error users. They develop, in each release, allowing users and producer to choose which one suit their hardware capability. And actually hiring or even just donating for making the OS faster, snappier and less RAM hogging.

Apple also need a trademark software just like blackberry with their Blackberry Messenger, or android with their google related software. Not just design wise, because design will always changing, just like cars.

All in all, just my opinion.

When the iPhone 4 came out i was pumped, i went to the launch night and it was not a disappointment. Things have changed since then and there are now plenty of phones out there that not only match the iPhone but surpass it in almost every area. For many of us the number 1 thing that the new iphone has to have is a nice big screen but it seems apple are going for a taller design which is just a cop out imo. Not excited at all.

Totally agree. If there's anything to be excited about it's the anticipation as to whether the leaks were true. But as for the leaked design and taller screen, this is really disappointing.

I'm excited, but I'm trying not to let it get to me. I don't want to be let down during the keynote. I rather invision a really crappy phone, and be pleasantly surprised, than let down.

Actually I just can't wait until its over.

Yes, iPhone keynote announcements are like a second Christmas for me! :D

OP, duh, LOTS of people are "genuinely" excited. Why does genuinely need quotes? If you're not excited, why not just post "who else is not excited"?

Why are people so bent on posing their own opinion as an inverted loaded question?

Don't forget half an hour of statistics and self congratulating.

Im going to purchase the phone, but the excitement has long been gone for me. I was genuinely excited for the iPhone 4. The 4S was a major disappointment and the 5 with the tall screen and iOS6 are not overly exciting to me.

Don't get me wrong I will be getting one on launch day (as long as I can have it shipped). This year I am feeling a wee bit more enthused then the 4s. Bigger screen has been a long time coming, and seems to be the only big feature.

Over all though I'm just feeling a bit... I don't know "meh" I guess about the whole thing.

For the 1st iphone through the 4th I was foaming at the mouth, checking gizmodo every 15 seconds excited. I practically bit open the box when I got it home to get to my precious. This time I'm pretty ambivalent.

I guess it is just a side effect of years of having essentially the same smartphone. I don't really even know what feature would get my heart pumping in a new phone again. My 4s takes more consistently great shots then my highend point and shoot, the screen is like looking out a window, and hspa+ is faster then my home Internet was 5 years ago.

I guess some kinda hologram screen with a naked fortune telling Siri, 10 gigs of ram, and thinner then a credit card phone would have me standing in line.

Oh well I'm sure come the 12th, Timmy and the boys will probably light a spark, in my lump of coal, jaded heart. Then sell me on why I should be pumped for my now with slightly longer screen iPhone 5.

At least my apple stock will go up again lol.

What feature are you counting the seconds for?

It will sellout right away and will be biggest selling phone launch ever, but people have too high expectations for phones, what do you want it to include to get you foaming????

I will be buying one for sure, bigger screen is a huge selling point

Im exited because my Iphone 4 is slowly dying on me. Wifi antenna is gone and so is the camera flash.

In terms of upgrade though...not so much. Its too similar to the iphone 4 for me to get exited. I dint really need the taller display. Im surprised they would go with that but perhaps makes sense once you start to use it.

I wouldn't say I am "excited" exactly. I'm just looking forward to having a phone that isn't 2 years old anymore. I think I am more anticipating iOS 6. I might even give up having it jailbroken if there is enough in iOS 6 for me. It depends on whether there will be a fix to the problems with the TiVo app not working with jailbroken devices
