Went to the store today and inadvertently got to check out the new Samsung phone that was on display that piqued my curiosity. Biggest things I noticed:

1- Display is higher resolution than current retina iphone display.
2- Phone has a sensor to measure your pulse (healthbook?)
3- Has an application that is like Pandora, based off of mood (reminds me of acquisition of beats by dre?)
4- Multiple applications open simultaneously - the demo app is pretty nice with the guy explaining how you can watch a video and surf the web at the same time
5- High resolution camera that takes awesome pictures

After walking out of the store, it made me wonder... what is the iPhone 6 going to have that is really "groundbreaking" outside of what it is for Apple? Sure the bigger display, better Pandora-like feature, and healthbook may be something, but hasn't Samsung already gotten those? We've seen "leaks" of attempts at getting multiple applications open simultaneously, that hasn't made it out of code thats hidden, but is there really something to look forward to?

I believe its not a "its just a marketing problem". If all we see with the iphone 6 is just "heres a bigger screen", it would be disappointing. Sure some people might say "who cares", but as a consumer looking to get a high quality product, which I know what Apple delivers, but if Samsung is upping their quality and functionality with extra innovation, it does seem at this point in time "The Next Biggest Thing is Here".

My excitement has decreased, but I am still hopeful that Apple will do something in the next months that will wow us all giving me some good reasons to pick one up.

I like #4.. in theory.. How practical is it really to be watching something while what, texting a friend? On a phone screen?

Just adding my $0.02 about number 2 for everyone.

Do you really want your phone knowing more about your health than you? Imagine if your phone took the 'health book data' like a constant real time pulse and gave/sold it to google and other companies and you start to get ads based on how healthy you are or what your current pulse is. LOL

I dont know about any of the health, but the radio feature is very slick. The "tips" like application Apple annoinced today to show specific features of the phone is something surprisingly the Samsung had and it had a video of an on screen narrator that tells you aboit a feature and lets you interact with the open application, and the narrator talks more about it. This is thanks to the simultanous multiple open apps feature which Apple doea not yet have.

I'm sure samsung has a few useful features no doubt. But they're method of throwing everything out there and hoping one sticks is what hinders them. For many it can be confusing and the user experience is nowhere close to the iPhone. Again when u have a company that creates the hardware and software and everything in between it's gonna be a smooth experience, better than one that does not.

You mention that you wonder what the iPhone 6 will bring that's groundbreaking yet the s5 isn't groundbreaking. It's the reason why the 5s, 9 months old, is outselling the s5.

Some people aren't excited because they don't want their phone to be the size of a phablet. Some people think that people who hold phones that are that big up to their ears to talk to someone just look weird.

There are many reasons to not be excited.

A 4.7-inch isn't a phablet.

Is anyone not excited about the 6?

Don't think so. I said that the 4.7-inch isn't a phablet. He said "in your opinion".

I was referring more to the 5.5. But slightly to both which is why I responded that way. If I think a 4.7 inch phone is big - that's fine. It's my opinion. I'm allowed to have it. I think 4inch is perfect size. If you want to have a big phone or phablet, go it. It's your prerogative.

Is it really worth trying to pick a fight on an Internet forum over phone size? Lol. Let's just leave it as we can both have our own opinions. You can voice yours and I mine. In your description you write that you're 'easy going' but so far that isn't showing.

I dont get how a 4.7 is considered a phablet, it is a 0.7 inch increase diagonally. Assuming the same ratio as the iphone 5S, that should be about a 0.6" increase vertically and 0.3" increase horizontally. I mean granted its all relative, but half an inch increase doesnt seem like an extravagant jump to me. Thats why Im going to get the 5.5" version upon its release :p That one is more of a phablet with about twice as much gain as the 4.7": +1.3" vertically and +0.6" horizontally. Assuming I can math correctly :p

Yes, relaxed.

You can't really judge what kind of person I am on a forum.

Anyway. Yes, we can leave it.

There are times I wish I could continue playing a YouTube video that someone post in this forum while reading post.

I'm interested in seeing the finished product but the antenna breaks that I've seen in the leaks just don't do it for me, then again I could see it in person and feel completely different!

So you prefer to have an "outdated" looking phone with better hardware, is that what you mean?

No worries, I skill have my 4S and love it, but it's getting a little slow.

I don't consider a phone's design to be outdated after one year, and I'm not the least bit concerned about what people think about me carrying an older phone. If someone looks at my 5S next year and judges me for having an "outdated" phone then they have problems.

Upgrading every year because you genuinely love technology is fine, upgrading only to keep up appearances or show off to others that you hold the newest device is sad. The majority of people you interact with in the real world don't care what phone you're using or even notice.

Funny you mention the 4S, that is still my favorite iPhone design to date. If I could have the 5S experience, TouchID and larger screen included, in the 4/4S style body I would be over the moon. The internals may be showing their age but the phone still looks great in my opinion.

Imho, Apple's designs are pretty classic. Sure, MR folks can easily spot if you've got last year's model. However, I still have my original iPhone and despite the chunkiness, imho it still looks pretty classy. Of course, it's also slow as heck.

I'm with FrozenInferno. I think the iPhone 4/4S is their prettiest iPhone to date. Granted, I do prefer a phone with more curves for easier grip. :p

I'm feeling fairly neutral about the iPhone 6 at the moment. We'll see if the keynote changes that. :)

So who else still thinks the op will be buying one as soon as it releases?

Haha!! Just like probably every poster on this thread!

Actually, I'm looking forward to the new aluminum body (the Gen 1 iPhone was the sexiest one ever!) & the 4.7" screen. The 5.5" is too big for my smallish hands, and would be like a Note 3...like an iPad againstbthecside of your head!

All that being said..."no" I'm looking forward to the iPhone 6!!

I am currently using an iphone 4 8gb and am due for an upgrade in august 2015. I will wait and see what android and apple have to offer me then to make my decision. If I were due for an upgrade this year, I would be buying an iphone 6. I am very much more satisfied with my 4. Even over my S3 and Galaxy Nexus that I sold before I switched over to iOS.

I think he's referring to the 5.5

That's not anywhere near phablet-territory either.

This is a phablet:

Ha even the definition of what a Phablet is has changed. I remember when people were making fun of 5 inch screens on here stating how ridiculous phablet phone's were when the original Galaxy Note was released..

According to Wikipedia, Phablet's are defined as any phone above 5 inches and below 7 inches.

That's clearly wrong, since every flagship phone from every manufacturer these days are between 5-5.5".

I don't know where those Wikipedia numbers are pulled from, but every "phablet aficionado" that I know barely consider anything under 7" as a phablet and a 5.5" would be considered really small.

I would consider anything over 6" to be a phablet and anything over 5.2" to be a big phone.
