For the Mini AppleCare+ is only $149. An apple leather case is $60 and silicon case is $50 (I usually by both) plus I typically buy a bunch of other cases through the years, so $149 AC+ and naked actually saves me $$ in the long run. At least that’s the theory. We’ll see. :)
Yes! I returned my apple leather case. Still need to buy apple care though but I plan to.

If you don’t break the phone you’ve wasted £149 and if you do, you pay an additional excess fee for a repair or replacement. Just get a good case and if the worst should happen I’m sure your home contents insurance covers it. People rave on about AppleCare here but like anything from Apple you’re paying a premium for an insurance service on an already expensive product. Just seems like parting with money needlessly for very little return.

Just had my daughters 7 replaced for no cost, near 2 year old so has a new phone, well worth it for kids phones.
Claiming on home insurance you still need to pay a excess and they put your premium up, here anyway.

You do know you can get pro rata refund if you haven’t used your apple care incidents right?

My daughters have old iPad Air 2’s I got free from work and iPhone 7’s which were free too so I’m not so worried about covering them for our use. It would put your premium up here if I stayed with the same provider but I negotiate every year anyway to get the cheapest cover. It’s not like I claim anyway as breaking devices is not something that has happened for years. The last incident we had was when my wife slammed a brand new iPhone 5S in a car door. We didn’t notice an increase in our premium at the time and the excess was £30 if I remember. The beauty of no claims protection.

We all use cases on iPhones and iPads therefore the risk of accidental damage is virtually removed.

I didn’t know that no. How much of the £150 or £200 do you get back for not claiming?

Insurance is something you never know how good it is till you need it, i've had over $120k of claims with my provider for house/cars, so have 100% confidence in claims, sure there is cheaper but have seen the horror stories re claims so stay away.
I get AC for 20% off and is a business cost my house insurance is not.

Have had screens replace with 2 iMacs under apple care in home, you won't get that with insurance, also gives you express replacements if like me live 6 hours from a Apple store.

Not sure what your beef is with it for some people it's great value if needed.

Not everyone owns a house too so don't have insurance.

Ever since I saw it reviewed by our top consumer watchdog here, I have never seen the point of it. Maybe different countries are different when it comes to insurance, but I wouldn’t purchase it. Whether you own a house or not here you can still insure your belongings. Hone and contents insurance isn’t exclusive to owned properties and even when I was a student in rented housing I still had insurance.

I’m not a prolific insurance claimed though, certain not into the £100k+. The most I’ve had is a claim for a car that someone else wrote off and in that instance I repaired my own car for £70 and bought the car back for £50. I got £7k from the insurers in that instance and I think my premium went up less than £100? Certainly by the following year I was paying less than before.

If it works for you though I’m not against that and why should it? Just voicing my opinion on it and at the end of the day what other people do with their money or what bad fortunes others face make no difference to me.

If you have the money to get it replaced whenever it gets damages, go caseless.

If you don’t, I would obviously use a good case.

I really think that money is the crucial factor here 😊

I just use a clear case on the back of my phone. You have some protection and you really don't hurt the aesthetics of the phone.

Though this may be the first year since I've bought smartphones that I might go without a screen protector. I've never scratched a screen protector in the past, so may just roll the dice without one this time. Besides, over time they seem to develop bubbles no matter how carefully I put them on.

I will never use my phone without a case or without a screen protector. I spent over $1500 on this phone and I want it to be as pristine as possible because that’s how I like my things. Even if Apple guaranteed that this phone will not scratch no matter what you do to it I still would keep it in a case and have a screen protector installed. That’s just my preference. I value my phone because I spent my hard earned money on it. Kudos to those who don’t care about having scratches on their phones. I just couldn’t ever do it. I have Apple care too but that’s in case something happens to the phone and I need it fixed or replaced. Not to be foolish and scratch and break my phone because I don’t have a case on it.

In the end it depends on how you handle your things. I’m always careful with my things and hardly ever drop my phone, but keeping it in a case just gives me a peace of mind for that one rare moment it does. I get upset if I notice any dings or scratches - especially since I just recently got this phone. Maybe I won’t care as much a year or two down the line because by then it would have lived its purpose.

Just put a nice scratch into the back of my leather bellroy case... likely would have scratched the back glass without the case.

With me, i notice that the more you try to be overly careful with your gadget the more it gets "ruined"... I think putting a case would defeat the aesthetics and beauty of your phone... But, that is just me...:)

I have a feeling if this is correct then Apple could be owing millions to people entitled to these refunds but didn’t realise they could claim them back lol. This could be the next PPI compensation scheme!
This has been a thing since at least 2012 when I bought my first brand new iPhone (the 5) with AC+ – if not before. AC+ follows the device, so if you're selling it or passing it along it remains with the device unless you ask for the refund.

Offering X amount of months remaining on AC+ can be and has been used as an incentive to get the best resale price.

I've owned 4 iPhones over the past 7 years and haven't bought AC+ for any of them. I've always just bought a good quality case and a couple of screen protectors. I've never broken a phone so in my case buying AC+ for all 4 phones would have been a waste of over £500. I've probably spent about £150 on the cases and screen protectors which I would have bought regardless. I rarely drop my phone but I'd rather have it protected and retain higher resale value for when I upgrade.

I can’t find anything relating to what the poster said though. Getting a pro rata refund at the end of the policy should no claims be made is not something that appears to be made clear. If it’s true and Apple aren’t making the consumer clear of their rights, they could be in hot water under European consumer laws. I don’t think Americans are as protected though as from what I gather you only get standard 12 month warranties anyway, whereas we get 24 months.

You can only get a pro rata refund if you cancel it before the 2 years are up and have paid in full, i am doing it monthly with a 20% discount with iTunes vouchers, it uses store credit, and can cancel anytime.
$8AUD a month, not even 2 coffees lol.
