doubt it! i rem reading here several times that you should NEVER do an OTA update on a jailbroken iphone. Always plug it into itunes, do a restore first before the upgrade to iOS6.

if ur phone is jailbroken and u dont wanna lose ur tweaks n all, i suggest waiting for the jailbreak first. thats what i'm doing. ill upgrade my wife's 4s first and play around with that to satisy my excitement :D

---any issues with the jailbroken iPhone?

OTA doesn't work on jailbroken phones correct? Is there a work around for this? Other than connecting it to iTunes.

I've done OTA on jailbroken devices without a problem. Obviously, you lose your jailbreak, but OTA works.

Good to know. You might still run in trouble if you do OTA, depending on your usage of Jailbroken Apps.

For example:

What happens if you use MxTube? Your stored Videos will probably remain on the device but they will of course not be access able without a Jailbreak. The Space will be lost though, leaving you unable to delete them. You get the idea.

This is screaming for disaster. ;)

So when I update via my phone does it offer to back up my current apps or do I do something before updating?

Thanks in advance :)

So now I just have to stop going into my settings and checking for updates. I KNOW it's not coming out until 1:00 pm my time but that doesn't stop me from checking. What kinda sucks is that I'll be at lunch then, it'll be 2:00 before I get back to the office and can plug in for the update but at least I'll be connected to WiFi.

Hopefully everything goes smoothly. If not, I'll be headed straight home after work to plug into my MacBook!

:apple: Happy Update Day! :apple:

Even if it was OTA, I wouldn't do a OTA. I never upgrade major release via OTA because you're carrying all the legacy stuff from the previous OS. I'm sure everything will work fine OTA, but I just don't like junk left over.

I'm the same. I see the major release times as 'spring cleaning' time for my devices. I do a full restore and fresh load of iOS and set them up new. Get all the crap out. Less chance of carrying over corrupted files that could bork with the new software

IOS 6 WILL NOT be over the air. All major OS updates are be made via computer and USB. delta updates such as 6.0.1, 6..0.2...etc will be made over the air.

And you're pulling this information from where, beside your derriere?

It will not back up your stuff unless you are on the computer and tell it to. You should be backing up regularly anyway even if to iCloud. You never know when something could happen like your phone is stolen or a fire breaks out at the office and the sprinklers douse your phone with water cause you left it charging on your desk while you went to take a piss (true story - happened to my brother).

And make sure you have it plugged into the wall charger if you are doing an OTA or a port capable of also charging if you use here computer. Do not trust that it will be okay cause it says it has X battery. If it dies it will screw your phone and could brick it and destroy your data. If you don't have your charger then wait until you get home. It's not worth the risk.

The Apple website says otherwise..... And how do you know how all major updates are to be made? Isn't this the first major update since the OTA feature was introduced? Did you just pull this out of your a$* and try to make it sound official?

And you're pulling this information from where, beside your derriere?

Apple Announced in 2011 WWDC that IOS 5 will contain OTA Delta updates. major software updates including IOS 6, 7,8,9..etc will be USB. US carriers including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint such huge GB data to be downloaded.

once the public release goes live can somebody please compare the file hash and size of the GM for 4S to the public release? Just out of curiousity? When I get it here in AU I will try n do the same...

i believe apple said in ios 5 that when purchasing ios devices it will no longer be necessary to own a computer. Im sure that applies to the bigger updates too.

Purchasing an IOS device will no longer require a USB and computer to activate the product. As I said before at 11:00 (California Time) IOS 6 will be made available only on iTunes (PC/Mac)
