I also tried to content-compare the two IPSW files (and then the correspoding extracted DMG files) but ran out of memory to do so. If there's anyone better equipped for this comparison please go ahead and let us know how different the files really are from each other. I bet there's not too much difference to be found, provided the code structure is the same.

You know, for someone claiming to be familiar with software packages, incremental updates and software engineering, as well as having common sense, you are not putting up very good or solid arguments. I won't bother to quote all your posts, this particular one will suffice just fine.

Please enlighten us - What exactly did you intend to achieve by comparing the two IPSW files? Or even the DMG files?

To borrow some of your terminology and put it to new use: If you knew the first thing about what you are talking about, your common sense would have told you that there is no point in comparing compressed and encrypted files like you did...

I did not manage to content-compare the files and as such I did not base any of my arguments on this particular comparison, so not sure why you're so hung up on this?

Allow me to rephrase for your benefit: The fact that you even tried to make that comparison strongly indicates that you basically have no idea how the stuff you are arguing about actually function...

If that's what it "strongly indicates" to you then that's not my problem but yours.

Still I was not arguing about being able to compare compressed and encrypted files - I was arguing about the arrogance of Apple to push full iOS updates in this "PC-free" era.
