once the public release goes live can somebody please compare the file hash and size of the GM for 4S to the public release? Just out of curiousity? When I get it here in AU I will try n do the same...

The GM of IOS is general the same as what the public will receive today. there has only been one IOS beta GM that has seen a 2nd GM seed. IOS 6 final may activate some futures that have been a problem for developers.

I think it will be OTA but we will find out soon enough. I think the big thing will be having enough free space on the iPhone and iPad to download it, expand, and load!

I hate to disagree

But first of all, It will be available at 10 AM Pacific Time and second, according to NUMEROUS source (including the one below) it will be available OTA.

Today is iOS 6 day and the latest mobile OS from Apple will be released at 1 PM ET (10 AM PT), says a report by Absinthe Jailbreak's Gamel Sabry. His post also has a timetable that lists the launch time for each time zone worldwide.

iOS owners can look for the over-the-air update by going to "Settings > General> Software Update" or by connecting their device to iTunes. Be patient as the rush to download the update usually slows the update process to a crawl.

Provided that it is OTA is there any differene at all bw doing usb install vs OTA i would guess no since ios5 and 6 dont seem to be that different.

But there always seems to be that mentality that Full wired install(not DFU) is sometimes different and better. But dont really know

Yes, iOS 6 will be OTA.

iOS 5 was iTunes required because it enabled the OTA delta updates. Every update going forward would then be OTA, including major X.0 releases like 6. The misconception is that a major release would require iTunes, because people see it as a complete overhaul, however, Apple wanted to create a system where people who are using their iPads or iPhones without a computer at all can still get every upgrade and advantage. It is designed to be PC free.

Look at the iPhone 5 page, then look at the iOS section. The devices clearly show the option to "Download and Install" and "Install Now" for iOS 6

I'm thinking the same thing. They can't say that with iOS 5 you don't need a computer and can set it up out of the box and then you go to update to iOS 6 and find out you have to go get a computer to do it. But... we shall see.

Spot on answer, agreed! (And anxiously checking and checking and checking...)

I've done OTA on jailbroken devices without a problem. Obviously, you lose your jailbreak, but OTA works.

I tried OTA on my jailbroken iPad3 which was running 5.1.1 and it DOES NOT work.

During the Preparing Update stage, the blue progress bar gets directly above the 'a' in 'Siri features' and errors out with 'Software Update Failed - An error occurred downloading iOS 6' with the options of 'Close' or 'Settings'.

I'll be doing a DFU restore via iTunes when I get home tonight.

I only see link to seeing the options for IOS 6. Is this in the download page?

I'm downloading it OTA right now, it's going smoothly so far. I am plugged in and connected to my office WiFi, I didn't want to risk shoddy cell signal and problems with that. I tried at 1:01 pm EDT and it hadn't hit yet, by 1:08 it had. Got back to the office at 1:15, plugged my phone into the wall and hit download and install! It'll be a few weeks before I get my iPhone 5 so this will hold me over until then, except for the no Siri on the 4. Still hoping for at least some new toys to play with!

iPad 3 OTA from 5.1 failed here. Same as above. 4s OTA going very slow and shows 2hrs left. Doing mine over a Verizon 4G Mifi. WIll do at home if it fails.

My phone found the update over cellular. Says it's a 626 MB update, and needs at least 2.5 GB of available storage to install. The cellular connection here is spotty, so I'm going to wait until I get home and can use my broadband connection. Plus I only have 2.0 GB free at the moment.
