One of the more basic and almost fundamental pieces of most mobile OSs today...quite far from a gimmick or anything even close to it.Oh you're talking about NC. I'm actually hoping to find a way to disable this soon, it interferes w a key activator gesture, swipe left on status bar. I rarely use notification center, I've thought it was another one of Apple's gimmicky features from the start, like almost every other new "groundbreaking" feature they unveil at Keynote.
Not sure what you're talking about.

Notification center? Exactly my point. I'm talking about when you have only one new message. The other message is one you've already read but had not yet responded to. The way messages used to be, if you opened the app it would automatically take you to the new message. This would clear the badge, as well as clear it from notification center, which was the issue.
You can pretty much make that argument about quite a few things when it comes to general public. Multitasking/recent apps are probably similarly unused by quite a few, but surely that doesn't make it an unimportant let alone a gimmicky feature.Meaning I can still find comfort and relief in the fact that there is a good reason for it not to open directly to the new message now.

Maybe not a gimmick but still not essential to everyone, I would bet if you could find a poll that less than 60% of ppl use it frequently.
Why does it stay in all caps now after you hit space bar?? So annoying. You can pretty much make that argument about quite a few things when it comes to general public. Not sure I follow. You tap the shift button to do one letter in capital case, or you double-tap it for caps lock that stays until you disable it. Use whichever one is needed as it is needed. Seems to work as it should and as is consistent with keyboards in general.Sorry I just saw this.....it stays in all caps any time you put it in all caps until you hit shift to switch to numbers or exit the window. Makes no sense, very rarely does anyone type a large body of text in all caps. I am extremely puzzled and frustrated with Apple's completely unnecessary changes to a perfectly working system for no reason.

No. It used to turn caps lock off automatically when you hit shift or spacebar, now it stays on and you have to manually turn it off. 99% of the time you only need to type an acronym or one word in all caps. Not sure I follow. Haven't you heard of the "Caps Lock" key - found on all keyboards?
I can't say I recall it doing that with caps lock. However, I would say that if it did do that then that is the more incorrect behavior, given that when I enable caps lock on any keyboard I would expect it to stay on until I myself disable it (thus the whole "lock" part of it).No. It used to turn caps lock off automatically when you hit shift or spacebar, now it stays on and you have to manually turn it off. 99% of the time you only need to type an acronym or one word in all caps.

Please re read what I wrote, carefully. It USED to automatically turn off conveniently when you hit shift or spacebar.
Yeah I see what you mean but in most cases (no pun intended) I only want it to stay in caps lock briefly.I can't say I recall it doing that with caps lock. That's fine, but it doesn't change that it's one of the more fundamental pieces of a lot of mobile (and even desktop now) OSs these days, and certainly doesn't make it a gimmick.I hardly ever use Notification Centre. I forget about it and worse, it isn't even as good as the iOS6 NC.

I did notice something along those lines as I mentioned in my earlier replies about that. But seriously, how have you not noticed that autocorrect is way worse?

You need to stop and THINK before you post.
Yeah exactlyYou need to be a little less accusatory and confrontational.
PS... OP: I agree with you, and I think it *does* belong in iPhone. I have seen the exact same degradation with typing/autocorrect, but only on my phone, not my iPad.
