Not a good comparison at all, two completely different apps. Messages is used in real time whereas mail is a much slower response time.
Messages are not really real time either--a phone call or FaceTime would be on the other hand. Sure, a lot of people use them in a faster than email fashion, but it doesn't really change the overall use and hierarchy of what's included and how it works. So, while it's not an exact comparison of course, I would say it's a very valid one as far as the similarities in flow go.

That said, this probably isn't the best thread for this part of the conversation as it's not really about autocorrect (and seems like this subject is being discussed in another somewhat more appropriate thread already too).

I just typed the same sentence on my iPhone and it was corrected. So the conclusion based on equal data is...

1. You're bending the truth to make a point
2. Your iOS is corrupted in some way
3. It may depend on which keyboards you have installed
4. It may have learnt this problem before for me
5. You're holding it wrong
That's exactly the point, it's inconsistent. Sometimes it works but much more often it doesn't.

How often does this happen? 9/10 people don't have that rare issue and if brought to their attention would much prefer the speed and fluidity of opening directly to a new text in one step rather than two, I can promise you.

Many people have this same scenario. I can promise you.

I have found iOS 7+ autocorrect to be more aggressive. Like the picture I posted. It will change words previously typed for some reason to other words. It's fairly rare but I've noticed it on quite a few devices.

This morning I was texting and was trying to say "she's the house with all the cars out front.....". When I was on the word "out" it gave the forced suggestion of changing cars to cares. I had to hit the X on cares to prevent it from changing the word.

If my typing was a bit more accurate I'd turn autocorrect off. But my thumbs are a bit too big to type on an iPhone keyboard accurately 100% of the time.

I've found that when I swipe up to shut down an app, sometimes I have to do it two or three times. It's annoying, and a new 'feature' from what I remember...

It does seem to be a bit more persistent. I fought with it on one email message enough to make me want to turn it off.

Is it just me or has autocorrect gotten worse and the keyboard less responsive?

Autocorrect has gotten worse, and the new caps lock and backspace keys are downright confusing.

Why would apple invert the "highlight" color scheme used for other keys?

It has without a doubt gotten worse.

On this note, is there any way I can stop my phone from changing well to we'll? I've tapped the x hundreds of times by now and even added a shortcut in settings and it still insists like well isn't even a word.

"Is it just me or has autocorrect gotten worse?"

Auto-correct seems to be failing, based on the above :p

The word you want is "got".

Sorry, honestly wasn't sure. I thought it through and concluded iPhone forum was most relevant because the responsiveness is more related to the screen.
Don't apologize some members act like they own the place and come off pretty rude. They just can't help themselves and ignore posts that they have nothing positive to contribute. On Mavericks and 7.1 spell check is not top notch.

Yeah, the more I use iOS 7 the more obvious it becomes how much worse autocorrect is. It's night and day. I am furious.

Why not turn auto-correct off and just type what you want? I have never used it and can probably type quicker than anyone I know. Sure I make the odd mistake but I just go back and correct it.
I couldn't use something which seems to be the source of so much frustration.

Because it worked almost flawlessly on iOS 6. Even now that it's worse typing without it would still be extremely tedious.

Any idea how or why they would allow essentially the most important part of their software to become so much worse?

The most important part??
I have never, EVER used auto-correct on ANY phone over the past umpteen years. I find it lazy and unnecessary with a QWERTY keyboard at my disposal.
If others feel they need it then fine, but please don't say it's the most important part of iOS because to me it's absolutely the least important part.

It seems like the same question gets asked and answered over and over: no one here knows or would know, only Apple might, and even if they do (and it's likely they actually don't) they aren't going to post anything about it on internet forums.

+1000. It's horrible now, and coming from Android phones with Swype and Swiftkey, the iOS keyboard is atrocious. Voice input works well enough to salvage the whole experience for me, though.

Wow. Autocorrect just changed the word "input" to "I out"....WTF.

I typed input in different sentences several times just to test and never once did it change to "I out"

Well then he must be lying for the fun of it, right??

This just confirms that it is not only awful, but inconsistent.

Or perhaps I'm better at typing than the both of you? I'm not saying that to be a jerk, just saying it's a possibility.

That's irrelevant, it should work just as well or better than it did before, and it's SIGNIFICANTLY worse.

It's not irrelevant, how you type directly affects autocorrect. If you're typing really inefficiently, the software will have a harder time discerning what you want to type.
