It's not irrelevant, how you type directly affects autocorrect. If you're typing really inefficiently, the software will have a harder time discerning what you want to type.

Read what I wrote. It is irrelevant in the sense that regardless of how well you type it worked BRILLIANTLY for me before. Now it doesn't. My typing skils have only improved.

Or perhaps I'm better at typing than the both of you? I'm not saying that to be a jerk, just saying it's a possibility.

Oh, I'm sure you are. I suck at typing using my index finger, which is how I mostly do it on both my iPhone and my iPad Mini in landscape mode. I'm a decent real keyboard typist, and I was pretty fast at thumb typing with my Treo physical keyboard. Even though I'm an Apple fanboy since 1979, I moved from the Treo to Androids, and the keyboard choices and autocorrect were amazing! Finally went iPhone with the 5 (was waiting for LTE), and this area was one of my main disappointments of switching. I doubt I will ever go back, but the autocorrect seems to get worse and worse. It now changes several words at a time, and it is never correct. I'm even jailbroken, and there are no keyboard options!

I recently did a clean install of iOS 7.1. I forgot how doing this erases all stored auto-correct options. What a mess now!

Before I did the clean install, auto correct was actually doing fairly well even on iOS 7.1 which was installed as an update initially. After - ugggg. I know it will get better the more I use it. Every time I correct a word or even one of auto-correct corrections, it supposedly remembers it the next time. I have to say, it IS getting better with time.

Speaking of keyboards, I would LOVE to have arrows on the keyboards so you can backspace or forward space without having to touch the screen and wait for the magnifier to show up. Also Swype capability would be welcome. These are about the only things I like better on Android.

+1000. It's horrible now, and coming from Android phones with Swype and Swiftkey, the iOS keyboard is atrocious. Voice input works well enough to salvage the whole experience for me, though.

Wow. Autocorrect just changed the word "input" to "I out"....WTF.

+millions

It's infuriating to me that people have the nerve to sit here and deny it or even worse don't notice it
Some do and some don't. However none of that changes that no one knows why nor can do anything about it. We can keep bringing up the same thing page after page asking "why?" and still nothing new would come up other than what already has been discussed in the first few pages of the thread that simply keeps on getting regurgitated over and over again without much reason or use.

Maybe it's a patent issue and swype wants too much moola?

And Swiftkey and the other keyboard apps that have tracing? No, in my opinion Apple is too proud to license technology that its direct competitors already have, even if it would TREMENDOUSLY improve their user experience. They like to pretend they are the innovators, something they couldn't claim if they licensed or even copied other keyboards and autocorrect apps. They would rather just say we don't really need better text entry systems. And I say this as a HUGE Apple fanboy.

I don't use autocorrect and I sure as heck wouldn't use Swype either. I'm a purist and can type lightning fast without all that guff.

That's nice for you but I came from android to ios because I read I could get a swype like keyboard after jailbreaking. But when I tried that keyboard it was TERRIBLE like an alpha version of swype from 6 years ago. So I removed the jailbreak and I patiently type this out on my $900 iPhone peck by peck and I wait and I wait and I wait but if the next ios version still has no swype I'm outa here. I would have had this post done 2 minutes ago with swype. Minutes add up.

Perhaps iOS 7.1.1 has improved something related to all of this (given that some sort of keyboard improvements are called out in the release notes)?

You need to be a little less accusatory and confrontational.

PS... OP: I agree with you, and I think it *does* belong in iPhone. I have seen the exact same degradation with typing/autocorrect, but only on my phone, not my iPad.

Is there any way to get this moved back?

As the poster above me concurred, it does belong in iPhone as it involves not just one version of iOS and is a broad topic
Well, it seems like the implication was that it was changed or affected in some (negative) way in iOS 7, making it more relevant to iOS 7 than anything else.

In any case though, whether it's in iOS 7 or iPhone forum, what else is there really to say about it after 7+ pages of discussion about it where nothing beyond establishing that it's worse for some and not for others can really come up? Just more of the same stuff simply from perhaps some more people?

So he can keep on trolling.

Every time I type "Your" to corrects to "YIUR" because I made ONE mistake when I was typing 4 months ago.:rolleyes:

Have you noticed that caps lock no longer automatically switches off after you type the word you wanted in all caps then hit space bar?

And this is why I say you're trolling. People stop commenting on your thread then you bump it by replying to a comment made 3 months ago.

Its always been that way, all you do is complain about every silly little thing.

It never did. Caps lock means caps lock, it's locked on until you turn it off.

No, it used to switch off when you hit any key other than a letter or backspace. How do you not remember this? It was 6 months ago.

I'm not bumping the thread, and I'm definitely not trolling..this issue is constantly brought to my attention when I use caps lock, and it makes absolutely no sense why they changed it.
